[Archived] Fox Hunting Ban

Recommended Posts

According to this website there is no evidence that urban fox numbers are increasing, and even if they are, the cause of the increase is not the ban on fox-hunting.

Please do your research before trying to make pathetic political points.

Anyone would think you were an ill-educated farmer making uninformed comments about things you don't understand.

You might think that .... but then you'd be completely wrong as usual.

Thanks Tony Bliar and thanks New Labour.

As mentioned previously these attacks will undoubtedly escalate as a result of ill informed politicians meddling in things they don't understand.

Hah. One incident in how long?

If there is a problem with urban foxes then the issue is people wasting food and putting it in bins. If that waste culture was addressed then the foxes would have nothing to eat and wouldn't exist in cities.

Promoting barbarity on wild animals as a solution to a human problem is very lazy indeed.

Farmers in the USA are frequently highly educated. Urban folks like to think otherwise, but there is quite a bit of intelligence and education in the rural and semi-rural areas. I assume it's the same in the UK.

What do you think happens when a predator itself has no natural predators? Unless human beings do their part, you'll get more foxes, etc., who don't otherwise have any natural predator to keep their numbers down.

Personally, I'm curious as to the effect that the planned re-introduction of the gray wolf into Arizona will have on our burgeoning coyote population. While I suspect the coyote's will be dinner to the wolf, I'm not sure that bringing in his bigger, badder cousin will improve matters.

In my experience rural redneck US is like here - the average farmer has the IQ of a barn owl. The vast majority are right wing too, another sign of lack of intelligence.

News analysis and debate on radio tonight over the foxes. Apparently there are no more urban foxes now than decades ago, backing up my brief bit of internet research earlier. Poor Mr Fox is getting an undeserved bad press.

Looking forward to the forthcoming battle between wolves and coyotes. May the best beast win. By the way, wolves are grey, not gray.

Disappointing that someone who claims to be an open minded liberal is engaged in narrow minded cultural insensitivity.

http://grammarist.com/spelling/gray-grey/

And of course the great Samuel Johnson agreed with the American version of the spelling: http://www.greyorgray.com/

And wiki has the primary search under "Gray Wolf", with Grey Wolf being an alternate:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_wolf

Finally, as you English seem to have killed off all of your wolves, I suppose you'll have to accept the spelling of those who haven't.

Dearie me, quoting the unreliable and discredited wikipedia is chapter and verse ? It's an American website so I would expect it to get it wrong anyway.

Disappointing that a supposed internationalist resorts to phrases such as "you English" but I shouldn't have expected anything less from a closed-mind Republican.

I'll stick to spelling grey the correct English way thanks. Wolves are alive and well here thanks, residing in a place called Molyneux.

No idea what the north is like. But loads in my area. I often go fishing off the beach at night - loads of foxes down there.

Absolute @#/?! You need to think things through a little better Lechuck. All that would happen is that foxes and their cubs would face starvation and the result would be an escalation in attacks on babies, cats etc. Moves to reduce available food would not drive them away it would just stop attracting new ones. Killing existing ones would be the only option as they could not be trapped and moved to the countryside as I expect your next knee jerk reaction would suggest.

Be aware that this story could have had a much much worse conclusion!

Oh btw not really something humerous to be scoffed at...... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9860356/Previous-fox-attacks-on-children.html

How about culling foxes residing in the cities which are obviously vermin and continue to leave the ones living in the countryside in their natural habitat to live?

By culling I mean by humane ways, not savaged by some snotty Hoorah Henry in a red jacket.

I say shoot the feckers in the city. That being said, it is our own fault for being so wasteful with food. And what the hell are 'responsible' parents doing leaving the door open in winter with a kid asleep inside?

Radio 4 had an item on culling London foxes for 40 years beginning in the late 40s. It was so successful the fox population increased!
