Veevs Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 nicko our squad is going to be huge if we bring in another 5 players..any transfer news on who could be leaving blackburn.. i do think a good back up keeper is needed to challenge robinson-im not keen on brown(too small).. a back up left back is needed aswell because if warnock was unavailable there would be no one.. why would we sign fowler aswell as another striker??surely we have enough strikers?? to improve the first 11 i think only a right winger is needed the rest i would say are pretty much to make the squad strong.. I dont think a large squad is a bad thing.. look at the times when certain key players where out last season.. The thing with another stiker is to have alternatives up there.. if RSC was injured or more than likely on International duty at any point in the season.. what backup do we really have..? Matt is a great little finisher, Roberts works hard but misses allot, McBennie well he just is not clued up anymore.. Fowler may not sign.. None of these players have real pace and a big target man may provide a little something else. Not sure who we could let go given the current squad.. the only ones I would like to see go are Peter, Gally, Axe and McBennie.

tony gale's mic Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Ince, correctly I feel, is bringing in players that he wants at the club. As opposed to bringing in players he doesn't want?! The fact he's wanted and got Andrews is not a good sign. Our performances havent been too bad so far though so jury is still out either way.
gumboots Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 As opposed to bringing in players he doesn't want?! The fact he's wanted and got Andrews is not a good sign. Our performances havent been too bad so far though so jury is still out either way. Presumably as opposed to players we think would be good signings or those available just to get someone in. He's the manager and decisions about who to bring in should, within budget restrictions, be his choice. There are plenty of clubs where the manager has little or no say in signings.
rovers1995 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 If west ham are interested in Benni then we should look into swapping him for bellamy. Yes he's not fit yet but if we get him back fit i think he could work well with RSC. Nicko, what right wingers are being looked at and are we close to signing any of them
joey_big_nose Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 If west ham are interested in Benni then we should look into swapping him for bellamy. Yes he's not fit yet but if we get him back fit i think he could work well with RSC. They're not complete nutters. Bellamy, despite his horrendous injury record, has a lot more in the tank than Benni. I can't see them swapping. And if they had Ashton and McCarthy up front they would have about as much movement as the great wall fo china.... I could see West Ham spending 5m on McCarthy out of the money they got for Anton to compliment what they have. If we've got Ollic lined up or Pinto looks good then this has to be a go-er. If they're even interested. Nicko doubts it, but it was bizarre McCarthy was out of the squad against Grimsby, especially when we only had one striker out there apart from the youngsters.
Ronin Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Wouldn't touch Bellamy, he's had his time with us. But now he's seemingly more more injury prone. If we were to sell Benni to Wet Spam, I'd rather just take the money than do swapsies.
imarover Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I know it's a bit late, but you are not alone - and it's no time to panic. How creepy and sinister does that sound
tcj_jones Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 We have EIGHT central midfielders, but not a single right winger... Ince has has three days to bring one in or we can kiss goodbye to the top ten. Surely now that we've brought in Grella and Andrews Ince must be desperate to offload the likes of Mokoena and possibly Vogel and Reid? Saying that, our midfield looks extremely strong in terms of depth and not bad in terms of quality: Grella and Vogel as defensive midfielders Reid and Andrews as all rounders Dunn, Villenueva and Tugay to provide the creativity. I'd probably give them all for a top quality all round midfielder though!
Veevs Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Ince, correctly I feel, is bringing in players that he wants at the club. I am sure a number of players will be moved on/sent out on loan (Championship window is a little later I think), I want to see a top quality right sided player at Rovers. At the moment it seems like: Joaquin Pennant are the two front runners, I personally would not mind either one but obviously Pennant is the cheaper option. Got a feeling the Joaquin one is dead in the water.. because he is out of our league cost wise.. With only Pennant a real option and I feel this may happen today given Liverpool are hoping to complete the Riera signing.
hawkiiz Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 i'd be more than happy with pennant at this stage. at any stage actually, except the joaquin stage. whatever we do, we MUST get another one in. at least.
rover6 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Soares is quite a few years older than them and less talented Soares was an English youngster who played reasonably in the Premier League, ergo, hype, speculation and general nonsense. Same with Ben Watson. BTW: I agree that if Rovers are going to sign yet more players, we have to look to sell. The hangers on need to go. Big squads can mess with morale and are financially draining. People have been saying good things about how the new 7 sub rule is giving exposure to homegrown players. However, imo that's only happening at most clubs because managers have not fully adjusted. Give it a couple of transfer windows and the seven subs will all be experienced pros on big salaries - as squads grow larger in quantity (not quality) in response to the extra subs. So, potentially, the seven sub rule is a recipe for misshapen distended and economically inefficient squads. A bit like West Ham right now.
alexanders Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 The 7 sub rule will by a certain extint only make the big 4 even bigger. With their financial powers they will have a perfect opportunity to place 7 quality players on the bench.
nicko Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 MILNER - Villa...over £10 million...way too much. RIGHT WING OPTIONS - Still the ones named, but not yet settled or agreed on one. SOARES - Hughes target, signed so many midfielders that he can't be on Rovers radar. ZABALETA - Hughes target at Rovers, bound for Man City...HP deal as usual...Corluka to leave for money. MAN CITY BACKER - May have got the name. Sitting on it for Sunday. But they do think they have found their saviour.
gbax Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 MAN CITY BACKER - May have got the name. Sitting on it for Sunday. But they do think they have found their saviour. Is it Noel and Liam?
bats Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 LET reporting that Blackburn are likely to make more signings, a goalkeeper and right winger: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...n_Rovers_squad/ What keepers are they looking at Nicko, now Bolton said no to Al Habsi
Cocker Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Is it Noel and Liam? The last time Oasis were linked to sponsoring the club (shirts) never mind taking them over Noel said it was a load of rubbish. Besides, I dont think they have enough money to take them over anyway.
nicko Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 You couldn't have two Franks in the same boardroom. Especially when they are quite similar.
bob fleming Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 You couldn't have two Franks in the same boardroom. Especially when they are quite similar. Good shout nicko... Frank Sidebottom and Little Frank Shinawatra. The Man City Dream Ticket no doubt.
Taggart Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 You couldn't have two Franks in the same boardroom. Especially when they are quite similar. Mr Bruno coming out of retirement ?
EwoodGlory Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 A possible 5 players in, but how many out? Read somewhere yesterday Newcastle have re-ignited their interest in Warnock - hope it's pish. It's not. Don't know if it was a bid or an enquiry, but they are in again
nicko Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 It's not. Don't know if it was a bid or an enquiry, but they are in again Well, let's hope they make the right offer this time...£6 million plus. I have my doubts that they will.
Cocker Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Well, let's hope they make the right offer this time...£6 million plus. I have my doubts that they will. Wrong, lets hope they dont make the right offer for him
