A few German sites are reporting Atouba is signing for Newcastle.

Hats off to you for calling that one.

EDIT - Transfer has taken a twist apparently. According to Hamburg's press officer Atouba was due to fly to England for a medical but instead surprisingly turned up at the training ground and has been included into the squad for tomorrow's match now.

Maybe that's why they are back in for Warnock?

Looks like Bunn has signed, BBC Sport breaking news and its on the Rovers website that deal is close. Pretty positive about it, he is only 24 (I think) and was there player of the year last season. Played 100 games as well so not a total newcomer!

Wonder what this will mean for Jason Brown!?

The end of his Premiership career? Did he just get one half of a game in three years?

An intersting bit on the official website about Ince talking about players from the lower leagues and mentions Kightly from Wolves. Is this a hint or am I reading too much into it?

Well, there's only one place signing first division players get's you, isn't there?

There's very little of Premiership quality playing in the lower leagues, - even in the championship.

It's all a bit frightening really.

Warnock never got a chance to play back then. Atouba has played lots and still looks rubbish. Big difference.

So what you're saying is if someone looked rubbish a few years back when they were 22 it isn't possible for them to improve?

I disagree - I think it's all getting a bit conceited up here in the premiership, and because it's a different name to the lower leagues, it's easy to assume that it's a different world. There is a tendency to believe that unless we are signing players from foreign shores that they are not good enough. Why should players earning their crust abroad, be any better than those playing in the lower leagues here.

Every day, on a message board somewhere, an arguement crops up about whether the Scottish premiership is the same standard as the Chamionship, league one, or league two. If we were to sign a squad player from a club in that league, he would be better recieved than a key player from a league one club.

I just don't get it.

Is Baggio a Newcastle fan by any chance trying to convince himself he is a good signing. He is useless, give me Warnock any day the week.

That's because the SPL IS of a better standard than League One. Celtic and Rangers would be competing for Euro slots in the Premiership and the other teams in that league manage to take points off them fairly regularly even if they don't compete for honours whatsoever. Certainly the likes of Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee and Hearts are much better than League One sides.

Ironically I believe Deco cost 8 or 9 million for Chelsea - so I presume both Newcastle and Villa consider Milner to be a better player than Deco!!!!!!!!!!! Very wierd transfer market these days. But at the end of the day a player is only worth what a club is willing to pay.

What kind of idiot would presume that.

Baggio is right, Atouba could come back and be a different player to before, it can be confidence or whatever, Keegan has his faults but he makes players feel good about themselves I am sure, he seems that type.

Every club that comes up into the Prem has to spend massive amounts to stand ANY chance of staying up. They basically have to replace their entire team. That should tell you the lower leagues ARE a million miles behind the Premier league.

I am a Newcastle fan but that has nothing to do with the point I'm making.

Now I haven't seen Atouba much for Hamburg but apparently he's been playing well for them, so there's a good chance he's improved since he was at Spurs 3 years ago.

Similar to how Liverpool have gone for Riera who was poor at Man City as someone else pointed out.

If he has been playing well, why have they signed jansen, and are now looking to sell him? On your way sunshine, were not her to discuss who the barcodes are signing. This is a laugh, Keegan is now saying that he wanted Milner to go, and its positive for the club. Sure the other day he said he wanted him to stay.

Like Reading? They only signed one player their first season up and did pretty well that year.

I do believe that there are players capable of cutting it in the premiership from the lower leagues. Obviously they are not abundant but Ince has great knowledge of the lower leagues in comparison to his own ability at the very highest level, therefore I back him in regards to that comment.

Obviously, we all must wait and see whether Andrews can cut it....

Because they rate Jansen higher?

Btw what do you think of Keith Andrews because back at the time Atouba was at Spurs he was getting peddled from Wolves for being absolutely useless.

I take it you're hoping he's improved since then.

I do believe that there are players capable of cutting it in the premiership from the lower leagues.

Who?

At one time there were indeed many quality players in the lower leagues, but not now. Occassionally a youngster will come through, - ala Aaron Ramsey at Cardiff - but they quickly get swallowed up by the top clubs for top money.

If Ince is seriously suggesting that he can go into the lower leagues as a matter of policy and keep rovers in the Premier league, then that is the most worrying comment I've read from him yet. He has NO chance of that working out.
