Ronin Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Mark Hughes on Man City's need for money: "It is well documented we are looking to bring in more finance. "If we want to take Manchester City to the next level we need a significant amount of money. Millionaires do not have enough. You need billionaires. That is the way of the world. You'd think he's still at Rovers from those quotes, as he sounds like he's just repeating what he said when he was at Rovers during the January window! Smooth move Mr Hughes, looks like he's in a no better position than if he'd have stayed.
thenodrog Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 You'd think he's still at Rovers from those quotes, as he sounds like he's just repeating what he said when he was at Rovers during the January window! I thought that too. Ironic eh?
colbert Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Hughes continually referring to him as Dr Thaksin is really ###### creepy... i agree, sounds like a james bond baddie
Presty On Tour Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Nicko Can you confirm that we have made an offer for Skjelbred?
daveoftherovers Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 i agree, sounds like a james bond baddie LOL, agreed, great post! But I think with all that is going on @ City it would be more appropriate to make comparisons with Austin Powers!? All MH need's to do now for the finale, is to prefix his usual address with the words "The Evil" and it would just make it for me...
Ninja Boi Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Just heard Henrik Larrsen as been put up for sale. Nicko, any word of where he might go?
Veevs Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Mark Hughes on Man City's need for money: "It is well documented we are looking to bring in more finance. "If we want to take Manchester City to the next level we need a significant amount of money. Millionaires do not have enough. You need billionaires. That is the way of the world. "Dr Thaksin knows some very wealthy guys. If anyone can bring it into the club it will certainly be him." So, in other words, they need cash...fast. What happened to the old sod.. he sounds like he wants the next chelsea with himself at the helm... There is ambition then utter madness....
daveoftherovers Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 If your asking about a bargain that came from the lower leagues, surely Lescott to Everton from Wolves was one of the best deals in recent years. He wasn't expensive at all. Yes he was! Apparently, it cost an absolute fortune to buy him out of the Star Trek series didn't it?
imy9 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Nicko- Any decent Rovers news you are saving for Sunday?
Doaksie Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 i agree, sounds like a james bond baddie "Ah, Mr Hughes we've been expecting you. Let me talk you through my plans for world domination!" "I like your ideas Dr. Thaksin, but I don't like the Kompany you've been keeping": Sven? I digress. Nicko, does Red Rom or any of his Ruskie mates have some sort of link in the Chelsea, Man City saga at all? Is the reason for your hinting at legal issues with the PL? Just picking up on City purchasing 2 Chelsea players in the last few weeks.
den Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Nicko, does Red Rom or any of his Ruskie mates have some sort of link in the Chelsea, Man City saga at all? Is the reason for your hinting at legal issues with the PL? Where was this said?
Doaksie Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Where was this said? Just a theory. Probably nothing to do with it, but thought I'd see from Nicko if there was anything in it.
imy9 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 fair enough mate, I hope it is a permanent deal for his sake as at the age of 24 he has achieved very little in a Rovers shirt. I would be happy with £500K and a big sell on fee attached.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I agree, he looked great, thought there would be a place for him in the squad as cover for RM since he played there and got an assist straight away with a sweet cross. (it was offside but beside the point).
Gamst Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Aaron Ramsey Theo Walcott Tom Huddlestone Aaron Lennon Gareth Bale To name but 5 international players who were signed by clubs outside the top flight, add to the list, Kightly, Ledley, Wayne Hennessey, Dan Gosling (now at Everton) and Chris Gunter (Spurs) there are plenty of players out there but they need to be given a chance, how do you know unless they test themselves with better players? These players are all young and in the championship. Andrews is 27 and has only ever been successful in league 2. Infact, he was particularly poor in the championship. Im all for taking risks on young players from lower leagues eg, Bunn and all the players you mentioned here, but not when they are in their late 20s. The point is that there are players in their mid to late 20's who could do an excellent job for a premier league club, for example: Michael Mifsud, David Norris Wes Hoolahan are but three players who are in the lower leagues who have the potential to be successful players in the premier league, the problem is that no one is willing to give them a chance, a shame really. I am confused as to what we have agreed on? If Ince signed the players that I have mentioned we would not struggle in the premier league, they are internationals from lower leagues. Im not sure these players would be that great, especially Mifsud. I am the guys biggest fan as I have Maltese family but I doubt he would be a success in the prem. Again, these are all champ players and all have shown ability in the championship. The natural progression for those players would be into the prem. Andrews did well in League 2 and not in the champ. These people are not good examples of ageing league 2 players who have been successful in the prem. Im not sure there are many/any of those...maybe Barry Hayles, but he wasnt that great really.
