Mark Hughes on Man City's need for money:

"It is well documented we are looking to bring in more finance.

"If we want to take Manchester City to the next level we need a significant amount of money. Millionaires do not have enough. You need billionaires. That is the way of the world.

"Dr Thaksin knows some very wealthy guys. If anyone can bring it into the club it will certainly be him."

So, in other words, they need cash...fast.

It just sounds to me, as though Hughes is simply underlining the situation as everyone knows it, Nicko. You said yourself that they have investors tied in now, - so where is there anything for the City fans to bother/worry about?

I've always thought Gally had talent in abundance, but he's obviously not looking likely to ever acheive his potential.

A real shame.

He showed really well v Hull. I've watched Gally for years and I can only compare him to the Tin Man .... he appears to have no heart for the game.

Nicko isnt giving much away at the moment, especially about the right winger...

He pretty much has said all options are on the table, although I dont see how we would still want Joaquin and leave it this late. If we havent approached anyone yet, we are really leaving it late...

he looked bloody good on wed

he was only on the pitch for 20 mins!!

I agree, he looked great, thought there would be a place for him in the squad as cover for RM since he played there and got an assist straight away with a sweet cross. (it was offside but beside the point).

Gally has had more chances than any other youngster in the club, never mind the 1st team picture. Loans all over the place but he's back at Ewood, because not even Stoke or Preston want him. He's been failing to make the grade at Rovers for longer than Billy's been banging the drum.

Why Hughes handed Gally an extended contract is one of the great mysteries ...

Don't you mean Grimsby? Anyone know if there's an update tonight from Nicko?

If Nicko hasn't mentioned himself somewhere on this thread today that there is an update tonight, how the hell would any of us know?

Man City THINK they have money coming in...but there is no guarantee of that turning into actual cash yet.

More on this when the time is right.

Updates.

PINTO - Has gone. He picked up an injury early on, didn't speak any English and basically vanished. End of story. Shame.

RIGHT WINGER - There is a surprise name and a very complicated move on. I am saving this for Sunday. It's a good tale and I hope it keeps. If that is a bit agonising for you, then it is worse for me. This one could happen over the weekend. The player has never been mentioned, but when he is named you will understand the background.

WARNOCK - I don't think Newcastle have the money.

MAN CITY - Big things happening...but that will have to keep for another day too. What a club.

Should have the money from the Milner sale? Or is that getting put back in to pay off debts etc?

They have money available for players they think are worth spending it on, some of the Milner cash will be available. Bids for Modric and Aimar we're made. Jonas has only cost around £3m so far, his former club want some from somewhere.

Surely they can find the other £2m, which makes me slightly nervous, they NEED a left-back before the window shuts. Enrique is not ready yet.

The other left back they we're talking to, would have cost more than Warnock, but personal terms we're too much.

What I heard anyway.

I've made that point previously about the January transfer window. Clubs always seem to leave it until 11.59 p.m on 31st of January.

You'd have thought if a club wanted a player they'd try to get him in as early as possible.

It must be the case that there's so much money involved these days in terms of wages and various fees, it generally turns into a huge game of brinkmanship with everyone backing down at the last moment.

You have answered your own question.

This entire transfer window has been a multi-million pound game of blink.

Let's see how many of the following are at new clubs on Tuesday morning: Robinho, Kaka, Ronaldo, Barry, Berbatov, Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko. When I think of the column acres spent covering their moves, it makes me feel Rovers were pussy cats over Bentley.

We had absolutely no need to sell him, no sign of an evenly remotely adequate replacement, and we have already dropped two points which we would not have done had he been playing against Hull.

Even if Ince had sent him to the Academy until 2 September, ok we would have dropped the two points against Hull but we would be in better shape on Tuesday morning tham we will be now.

We dropped enough points against lower teams in previous seasons with Bentley in the team for you to say this cost us two points.

Bentley was becoming an unsettling influence on the squad and needed dealing with. it was better to get shut when we did.

Well lets see if that lot are disruptive if they don't move clubs come Tuesday.

As I said, shunt him down the road to the Academy to maintain fitness so he doesn't disrupt then see him Tuesday morning.
