Is it only me that thinks Ooijer is our best centre half and should be playing there?

Ooijer on his day is as good as Nelsen before his injury. He's not quick enough to play right back for us but he should be bare minimum #3 centre half. A bit more rotation of Ooijer, Samba and Nelsen seems in order - Samba can keep a nippy little forward in his pocket but a smarter player like Dean Ashton is all over him, and Nelsen isn't great on set pieces.

DAM!!!!

Going to have to agree with you Gordon! :o:lol:

Samba is awful at the moment! Ooijer reads the game well

and was impressive at the world cup!

nicko,

Any truth in Owen possibly leaving? I know it's probably a bit out of our league but if the small transfer fee reported can then help justify his huge wages, don't know how he got on with Incey in their Liverpool days? Wonder is RFW has considered it in case Berbatove doesn't go through?

Other than that has Mark Bunn passed his medical?

Any other names popped up as new targets?

Is there please any chance someone is interested in McCarthy or Steven Reid?

Update time.

AZ Alkmaar want Ooijer AND £2 million for Holman...but they are willing to deal, so that could change.

However I don't see Rovers paying that so anything could happen.

A lot of late ones...

WIGAN trying for Nugent, STOKE could take Camara, HULL in for Cousin at Rangers and Johnson at Cardiff but unlikely to get him, WEST BROM signing a big Dutch defender called Donk from AZ Alkmaar...which explains why they are so keen on Ooijer.

Newcastle offered Owen a deal today which suggests if he says no he will be sold...

I have had a sneaky feeling Man U might do that one for some time - whether Berbatov moves or not.

Fergie has been into his ribs for months. Unofficially of course.

He could be the goalscorer they need, just depends if they want to take a risk on someone with his injury problems when it looks like they are letting one go. However if Owen is fit, he's better than Saha.

Wouldn't surprise me.

nicko, No other update on the right midfielder I guess then other than the Aussie, how close is Pennant to Stoke?

Not too sure what to make of the potential Holman transfer, although I'm willing to trust that Louis Van Gaal still has an eye for a player.

On the bright side, at least it's not Pennant - I notice he somehow seems to have his fans on this board, but in my opinion is he is a proven Premier League failure with a bad attitude.

..So apparently even Hull are willing to throw £7 million at a player (Campbell), this transfer window is becoming embarrassing. Players like SWP, Joaquin and probably Pennant would be worth a good 12-15 points with their goals and assists. For Christ's sake Rovers, stop peeing about with mediocre squad players and buy 2 players that will IMPROVE what we have and replace the TALENT we lost (Bentley).

As some have said its like selling Duff and Dunn all over again (and Shearer for that matter) do we never learn?

100% agree. Quality not quanity.

Really getting concerned now!

Been really optimistic that we'd get a decent right winger!

Its looking very unlikely! We didnt strengthen in January

and in my opinion it cost us a European spot! With Santa injured another

striker wouldnt go a miss!........... Still dreaming of Olic!

HULL in for Cousin at Rangers

I take it that is a loan deal?

but is a loan from Scotland classed as a domestic loan, or a foreign one? because Hull have used both domestic loans.

reason me asking is ...Duffen was on local radio earlier saying there is a loan bid in for a striker. (meaning it wouldn't be a domestic based player)... or is that someone different?

I think selling Ooijer would be a big mistake... sure he's not the fastest, but puts in good performances still. Though it'd mean Khiz is the next in-line for centre-back duties should Nelsen or Samba get injured, and I think he's completely underated.

I agree with this. None of our defensive players are in great form at the moment, so best keep hold of the one that seems to be in some sort of fettle.

No. A lot of supporters are of the opinion that Ooijer and Khizanishvili are the best combination of central defenders at Rovers. Both are slow but both have the footballing brains ( nows or intuition) to hold the back line together and catch people like Bellamy and other fastards way offside.

Agree with the Khizanishvili underrated comment, the guy would be our number one centre back if he has any pace. Zurab and Nelsen should be our starting centre halfs until Big Chris gets his act together.

Holman - I think the lad has potencial, but its a case of the right coach being the right person to get the best out of him. He's not winger or an out an out striker but he would be a player to play central attacking mid or off the striker role.

Pennant - For 5 million im umming and rrrrring but hes got the pace we need, personally i'd rather get Sebastian Larsson but what is the figure required for him?

I can't comment on Holman at all because in all honesty I have never seen him play and wasn't even aware of him until this morning. I value greatly the imput from our Aussie fans however I would just like to point out that from watching the last few Ireland home internationals I can safely say that Robbie Keane is the most overrated player in the Premier League and will be a total flop at Liverpool....however that still didn't stop him scoring 23 goals last season :tu:

I've seen him play a number of times for Australia and he's rubbish ^_^

Ince has been in charge long enough to come up with a decent shortlist of targets...we're replacing Bentley and Friedel (our two best players along with RSC last season) with complete unknowns/donkeys. Is this because we have been knocked back after having been over-ambitious in the market, or is the new management simply as clueless as they appear to be? Ince has just over 24 hours to make or break this season - make it please.

I am amazed that anyone can make this statement - how many people on here doubted Andrews ability, and had to eat their words after the West Ham match ?

In reality - nobody knows who we have asked about - and at this moment in time who will replace Bentley come the end of the transfer window.

I wish everyone would get off Ince's back and give the guy a chance.

Agree with that. We're starting to sound like Spurs or Newcastle fans, expecting success overnight. You can't judge Ince by what has happened so far or even if he doesn't get a redhot right winger in tomorrow. Get real. We are not going to challenge for one of the top few places and top half will be a good finish for us. Yes, I'd like to see exciting players coming to Ewood to play for rovers and not as part of the opposition. Yes, I'd like to see us win a cup and/or qualify for europe but there are more teams who get nothing out of a season than another season in the Prem than there are winning things and as long as we finish above the bottom 3 it'll be ok and we can try again next season. I'm not defeatist. Just realistic.

Agree DMPT we need to give Ince a chance!

But on the Andrews issue come on he came on as sub

and did alright!ope he does well but i cant see it to be honest!

Whats the chances of 15 million blown in one day on absolute quality? :D

What a ridiculous thing to say.

I meant in the transfer market. We still haven't made one convincing move as far as I'm concerned.

I won't judge Andrews yet, but I'm growing increasingly frustrated and concerned about the lack of proven quality being brought in. But you're right (and that is what I asked about too) that we don't know who we have asked about - I base it on the news nicko has been providing so far.

I was frustrated with Hughes at times too but some the signings he made, and that I doubted, turned out very good - I guess I'll have to give Ince the benefit of the doubt as well.
