Paulo Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Perhaps given that its getting close to the end we could get Joaquin on a loan with a view. I can't imagine they are too keen to sell too Madrid. Kightly must be considered I cannot believe that they would not be interested in say 2.5M plus Reid. How can you NOT believe they wouldn't be interested in 2.5million plus Reid?? Maybe because you just completley made up a sum and then just threw any old player into the deal. This aint football manager mate, leave the deals and figures to the experts

nicko Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The Man City drama will just get better today... Think the 'mystery Arabs' may have done the biz. It could even be a 100 per cent takeover, but there is so much to come out on this.
Veevs Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 If board are involved then maybe ince wants to break the Rovers transfer record.. cant imagine them being involved if it was a 4-5m winger.. EDIT: Unless they gave him a none existent transfer budget this pre-season, so need to extend it to meet his requirements.
QOTSA Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 This rules out any chance of Joaquin leaving Valencia - for Rovers or anywhere else. http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2008/09/01/v...1220256826.html Valencia's sporting director Fernando Gomez says: "Joaquin told us that he has had an important offer from a club but he has not accepted it. Joaquin says he made that decision because he has confidence in the manager and the team's objectives." My money's on Pennant being the top target.

Paulo Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I dont believe that Joaquin story. How can he tell them he's had an offer, surely the club would know about?? Otherwise it's tapping up.
nicko Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Just been on the Radio that Frank has sold up Meetings in London on Friday and then Abu Dhabi yesterday - not sure if it is 100 per cent takeover or not. Anyone want to doubt that Man City had massive financial problems now? Mind you, these guys are a bit loopy-lou too if you look into their backgrounds. Sparky is in for a shock or two.
ebenrocks Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 shame really, im sure i wasnt the only one hoping for a docking of points.
Esulx Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 1014: Amazing news from Man City, Arabian Business claims the club has been taken over by the Abu Dhabi Group for Development and Investment.
broadsword Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Mind you, these guys are a bit loopy-lou too if you look into their backgrounds. For some reason I'm sure they'll pass the "fit and proper person" test. Only bin Laden could fail.
Torgeir Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 There's a board meeting going on right now to decide which right winger to go with... We should know a lot more later this morning - I think we have a fair idea of the names. Exciting. Hopefully they'll have a plan and a backup plan after this meeting. If not we might have to wait until January I would think. Are Kightly, Lennon and Pennant being discussed?
nicko Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 You really do get spoiled for information at times... How many details of Man City's financial problems do you need? I think I said last wekeend that Shinawatra is doing a deal to bring in money - ideally as a partnership or to take over. You will find out shortly what they have done and who it is. Perhaps, of course, they found a money tree.
Majiball Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 How can you NOT believe they wouldn't be interested in 2.5million plus Reid?? Maybe because you just completley made up a sum and then just threw any old player into the deal. This aint football manager mate, leave the deals and figures to the experts When we were linked last time it was suggested a fee of 5M Reid is worth at least 2.5M, I put Reid in as he can play on the right and looks a shadow of his former self. If you attempted to comprehend the grammar in the sentence you would see it was not a statement but a suggestion, there is a difference. People have scoffed at fee's posted in the past and suggested levels that they would be happy to see a deal done at, I do not see you bitching at them. Anyways enjoy the last day of the school holidays, and good luck with your SAT exams this year.
LDRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Outcome of this board meeting today concerning the right winger will tell us a lot about the direction of the club. If we push the boat out (over 4 million) we can safely say we're still pushing for Europe, cheap and cheerful and we're settling for the status quo for as long as we can get away with it. And before I get picked up for my understanding of 'cheap and cheerful' it's in relation to the transfer budget at our disposal.
Mozzer Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 nicko..can you see blackburn looking to buy another striker or back up left back aswell today-or is just a right winger the position we are after??
DingleBaiter Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Well talk about cutting things fine! Unbelievable. Clearly you don't understand Parkinsons Law - work expands to fit the time available for it's completion. It happens every window with other clubs, and given we've a new manager that's shopping in M&S when he's only known Aldi for 18 months c/w a new scouting network, as well as higher than most needs given the squad churn, I don't see the problem TBH. Taking time to do transfers is good business. Rushing transfers is foolhardy & often expensive. Given the lack of liquidity in a lot of clubs at present, and our relative cash-rich position at present, I fully applaud Rovers in how they do their business. Who knows, all the pitchforkers who've been moaning about not signing a right sided midfielder may end up looking monkeys if we get a good un today, or spend big. Ince has shown he's willing to spend money/sign players by having a good weigh up, and setting price he's willing to pay it seems to me - which fits what Hughes did - plus he's willing to pay the long game. IF for instance we sign Pennant, I'm sure it will be for less than what Liverpool wanted, which is worth waiting for. Interesting to note it's gone to a board meeting - could be a positive methinks; I'd suggest it's because there must be a big decision to be made such as spending more money than they hoped for. Either that or it's to weigh someone one in they don't really want to (Benedict - I hope!). I'm hoping the RM is Joaqin (tho think it was always wishful thinking) if not I'd hope they take a punt on Kightly; however, I think Pennant is the likely one.
Bobby G Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The way I see it, Man City, Villa and Spurs will be very tough to overtake this season regardless of which right winger we sign. Added to that will be us, Newcastle, Pompey and Everton and you have 7 teams battling for 1 UEFA Cup spot. Its becoming really clear that now you need to spend MILLIONS to even make it to the UEFA Cup in the Premier League and even with all that money it will be highly unlikely you can break into the top 4.
Fife Rover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 There's a board meeting going on right now to decide which right winger to go with... We should know a lot more later this morning - I think we have a fair idea of the names. Oh wonderful! Assuming that Joachim has never been a realistic target, that leaves us with a list of targets in which Pennant has to be the "best" of an extremely bad lot. Might as well not bother and save the cash for January. Aternatives to fill in till then: 1) Emmo...we know what we get with him. 2) Swap Pederson over to the right. He IS right footed. Treacy on the left. 3) Use Simpson as a RW. He can cross a ball and has decent pace (allegedly). 4)Reid, Dunn, or Derbs......no thanks, complete waste of their respective talents. 5) Some untried kid from the Reserves.

Out of those six teams you named, all spent more then us last year, only 2 finished higher. I just want Ince to buy a player thats gonna be 1 of the first names on the team sheet.
Taggart Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Ah right so your speaking for us all then! Personally I'd go with Seb Larsson or Kightly. Joaquin would be a bit of a risk at the money they want, if he redicvoers his form then he is a world beater but if not then £10m down the drain! Going to be a fun filled day I think, loads of deal s coming out already. I would prefer Joaquin as well to be honest - may be they need to have the board meeting, to authorise a big spend on a player ? :-)
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/footba...r.html?ITO=1490 Stoke are prepared to meet Liverpool’s price of £5million, but Pennant has stalled the deal by demanding £50,000 a week wages. 50k a week, i can't see us paying that especially after the wage increase we paid Roque will have dented the wage budget. Looks like Pennant won't be an option.
rover6 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Nicko - Is Kightly being considered? Paul Ince recently justified his purchase of Keith Andrews by comparing the move to that made by Kightly from Grays Athletic. Ince said something like, "now there are many clubs prepared to pay big money for him (Kightly)". That doesn't answer your question but it does sound like Ince is fully aware of Kightly's career progress.

I just want Ince to buy a player thats gonna be 1 of the first names on the team sheet. Yes but how many years can we break that trend! I am coming to the realization that sooner or later, when we finish 12-13 in the league, we will have to be happy with it, unless there is a huge money injection into the side.
