tcj_jones Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I have a good feeling that Pennant will be signed by the end of the day. As somebody earlier mentioned, that immediately and hugely strengthens the right side of the team, which was abysmal collectively against West Ham. I don't think we can afford to wait until January to bring in a new winger for Emerton and Reid have looked at best bog standard average so far and at worst down right shocking. £500k for every Premier League place remember. I think waiting until January could cost us at least £1m in league placings alone.

joey_big_nose Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Also Nicko are West Ham really looking at Ferreira? Why do they want another right back they have Neill and Behrami who can already play there. Can he not play centre back too - so would replace Ferdinand? Or Spam could be looking to play Ferreira RB and Neill in the centre. Neill is good there.
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I'd like to see us make an approach for Kightly, Someone previously has already mentioned that Ince did talk about Kightly and that he has been monitoring his progress. Two goals at the weekend will surely make Ince take a closer look. Still not sure they would sell though.
socngill Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 In an i9nterview last week ince mentioned Kighlty and how people were offering big money for him. I think it was part of his "Andrews is a God so let's all lick his boots" interview. It suggests to me that he is aware of Kightly's quality, but that perhaps they were put off by the asking price for him. Still, I hope it does turn out to be him and the club pays the money as he looks quality. For me he is the best option out of those being mentioned. On the plus side it's not long to go to find out, and then I can get back to living my life again
hollowsr Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Ferreira can play centre back but is no good there, but to be honest I've never rated him. Possibly they may play him at LB with Neill at CB and Behrami at RB. I now think that we will get a RM and another player in as well. I keep changing my mind, I hope Ince doesn't change his mind as much as I do or else we'll get no-one
Presty On Tour Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Ferreira won't leave Chelsea. I'd be very surprised if he did.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 If we sign Kightly I'll run Ewood and back in the bareness of the day.

Well bringing someone in on 30k vs 50k is 1mill saved each season, and that is not taking into the overinflated transfer amount. It's panic deals that's partly has brought the wage spiral on football, and you need leaders like Williams to be responsible and consider the club's future because fans are very shortsighted.
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 In an i9nterview last week ince mentioned Kighlty and how people were offering big money for him. Yep http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8...4065445,00.html "But sometimes you can just look in the lower leagues and there are just as good players. If you look at Michael Kightly at Wolves, who came from Grays, and there are clubs who would now pay £6million for the lad." "He's serious about his football, had a good year last year and I'm confident he can make the step up to the Premier League."
AussieinUk Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I am simply arguing that calling him 'rubbish' is a slight exaggeration on your part, in the same way Andrews being described as rubbish was by the MK Dons fans, with all due respect Van Gaal is a better judge of talent than you, other Aussie fans and me!! Lets not forget, YOU asked Aussie fans (of this board) for their opinions on him and EVERY Aussie fan responded by stating he is not very good, by any stretch of the imagination (i.e. answers were @#/?, shocking, rubbish etc etc). See below for your request on the 31/08 Aussie fans on here, what are his strengths and weaknesses? Your just being difficult and this is not the first time I have noticed this, on this board. Btw- I do think Van Gaal is a great coach (maybe slightly past it now, but still a great coach). I just raised the very valid question, of why would Van Gaal, sell a player that he has just purchased in the last two MONTHS?? You responded with some guff, that he needs a defender, now that he has sold one already from his squad (which still doesn't answer my question) Tell you what.. How about we wait and see if 'we' actually sign him today. Otherwise, lets keep an eye on him this season at AZ and see how he goes, eh?
socngill Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I'd take him for £6m. Definitely worth that. Would still have money left over from the Bentley sale as well.
alexanders Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Could Skjelbred be in the frame? Don't think so. He has just signed a new contract with Rosenborg. On the other hand he had a cracking game last night! I think what they do at the board meeting today is monitoring this messageboard to see what all the supporters think about the players GO GET KIGHTLEY!

Regarding Holman phrases such as barn door and banjo, or arse and both hands spring to mind! I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I've seen him to often at international level (closest standard to EPL we get down here) and he wouldn't even get a look in for our reserves.
ally Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Think we should be in for Kightly - if there is 5 million available for Pennant then i would much prefer Kightly. He wouldnt demand as much wages and looks to be in some good form. May not also cost as much as pennant too!!
Rover down South Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Sorry if already mentioned. They have said on talksport that Rangers striker Alan Gow has rejected a move to Blackburn today. Wiki has him as an attacking midfieder. Thought we were only after a right winger.
alexanders Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 12.00: Roy Keane said on Sunday a deal had hit the buffers so it would be quiet at Sunderland. However, the Irishman still harbours hopes that one more incoming move could happen. Is it Benni? Might be the reason why we are checking out Holman
LDRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I think there's a few missing the point on here - we sold our best player (Bentley) without lining up a replacement!!! I'm all for 'keeping the powder dry' but we've been doing that for years now and surely if there's not a deal to be done we shouldn't have sold in the first place.
Rover down South Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Its Blackpool not us Oh right!! They have said BLACKBURN twice!! Cheers.

This is what I am hoping for. McCarthy has been out of two squads apparently due to injury but little has been made of it. I think it is more to do with making sure he doesn't get injured.
socngill Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Corluka has finally made his move to Spurs today. How long did that one take to go through...?

I'm all for 'keeping the powder dry' but we've been doing that for years now and surely if there's not a deal to be done we shouldn't have sold in the first place. I've been saying this for a long time. Having known that Bentley was going to be sold for months, we should have had several players lined up, scouted extensively and been in a position whereby we were ready to bid. We should have brought in a replacement a month ago, not be leaving it to transfer deadline day when prices will definitely go up because the selling club has the advantage and knows they can demand higher fees.
A cup of beans Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Oh right!! They have said BLACKBURN twice!! Cheers. gow turned down burnley in the last transfer window! that lads's got sense!
EwoodGlory Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Oh right!! They have said BLACKBURN twice!! Cheers. I emailed them earlier, and he keeps saying Blackburn, you know what the Moose is like though.
