I've been saying this for a long time. Having known that Bentley was going to be sold for months, we should have had several players lined up, scouted extensively and been in a position whereby we were ready to bid. We should have brought in a replacement a month ago, not be leaving it to transfer deadline day when prices will definitely go up because the selling club has the advantage and knows they can demand higher fees.

Well we did do that. That is why we were looking at the likes of Zabyleta. Problem is that Hughes left, and Ince had a million things to deal with, not just the Bentley problem. I think broadly speaking Ince has covered an awful lot of ground. I wouldn't criticise his work rate.

I was under the impression that Zabyleta was a right back and brought in to replace the outgoing Corluka?

I'm not laying blame squarely at Ince's door, although anybody taking over at Rovers would know that Right wing was a massive priority and would need to be sorted quickly. Obviously I can't prove this, but I just know that Hughes would have looked in to a number of options because he knew Bentley was leraving. He would have had his whole team working on the issue and the likes of Williams and the board would have known a number of targets. Just because he leaves and we bring in a new manager, doesn't mean that all evidence and trace of his work disapears at the same time. Even still, that leaves us with, what, six weeks to bring in a good right winger? Plenty of time. But hey, he might still do that. Let's wait and see.

Well Ince had to bring in - a new keeper (did that straight away), three new central midfeilders which were all much needed, a new right back. He did all of this. The reason a right winger is not on that list is because there was not a decent value one available for the right price, not for want of looking.Over the course of the six weeks we have identified at least six targets. None had immediate appeal like Robinson did in goal, so we are weighing up our options. If Liverppol had taken 3.5m for Pennant he would, provided he agreed personal terms, be at Ewood right now.

Today is when we make a final choice. I can understand that approach.

I don't think Hughes had any intention of selling Bentley. bentley engineered the move himslef by going public to Sky Sports. i think had Hughes still been manager he wouldn't have tried that little trick, but as we were manager less he saw his opportunity and took it. Had he done his stunt while Hughes was still here I think he would have found himself fined and firmly dealt with.

I am not saying Ince was soft, only that he had a job to do to persuade him to stay, and taking the hard-line with him from day one would not have helped his cause.

So I don't think the club had been looking at replacements until Ince came in and decided it was better to let him leave. I am sure Ince and his team have been working non-stop to find a suitable replacement.

There's a board meeting going on right now to decide which right winger to go with...

We should know a lot more later this morning - I think we have a fair idea of the names.

That should imply sudden consideration of a an unexpected move in the monster 10m plus bracket.

Why should an emergency Board meeting be necessary for a 4-5m buy when we've sold Bentley for a net 9 or 10 million and spent roughly 5m?

Surely Ince has been told his transfer budget well in advance? Very odd and seemingly very poor forward planning unless as I said an unexpected move for someone more expensive has become an option.

correct, except bentley was asking for a move before hughes left, so wholly incorrect

I think it's more likely that they've had a few targets looked at, a few enquiries responded to and are talking over the best option before kicking into action this afternoon. Typical cautious Rovers, although I hope they're not procrastinating over details for too long, or we could miss out.

Joaquin or Pennant, IF not I think most fans would be disappointed with the transfer window.

We need a right winger but i'll state this time and time again it is not essential. We need our back 4 sorting out ASAP!!

Even by deadline day standards this is a daft one...

EVERTON back in for Vagner Love, now talking about paying £12 million. Hmm.

STOKE have made a record bid for Ledly at Cardiff...£6 million...still not enough.

BOLTON just missed out on Fernandes at Man City because the Arab billions are coming in...Hmm.

No white smoke at ROVERS.

Thats the way I see it. Ince must be making a case for a larger than expected outlay. For me that points to three guys - Kightly, Joaquin or Pennant (although with Pennant I imagine its more about the wages than the fee).

The board could have course tell him that the case for spending isn't good enough and we end up going more budget.

If we are going to outlay a lot the sensible option is Kightly - likely to have relatively low wages, young and English so sure to have some resale value, seems to be a popular choice with the fans, right sort of attitude which I think is important to the manager (see the choice of Grella over Castillo...). Plus Ince will know the Wolves set up. Fee will be large but perhaps more justifiable than Joaquin and Pennant who will command large wages and perhaps have a declining resale value (although Pennant is only 25 he is increasingly being seen as damaged goods....)

Are the Right Wingers Pennant, Holman or Joaquin? Any new names?
