they_think_its_all_rover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Nicko... Didn't hear it myself, but someone has just said on a Hull City forum, that was listening to Sportstalk update on BBC Radio Humberside, that Paul Duffen has been told Man City have bid £30 million for Berbatov, as he's sat in Cottingham awaiting Berbatov's move to Man Utd, to tie up the Campbell deal. There on about trying to talk to Duffen live soon... I'll listen if he says anything more.

frosty Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Ending our interest in Pennant better mean we have found an alternative, rather than we are waiting until January.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 SSN report City have bid £30 million + for Berbatov Didn't see this... maybe where Duffen has got it from? ...but I can imagine Man Utd would keep him informed?
socngill Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 correct, except bentley was asking for a move before hughes left, so wholly incorrect It came out after his live broadcast that he had asked for a move, but the club had kept that quiet as Hughes had told him he wasn't going anywhere. Bentley specifically waited until after Hughes had left before announcing what he had told the club months earlier. Just strikes me that he wouldn't have done that if Hughes had not left. he may have been conniving our he may have just found the constant "honour your contract" talk from Hughes a joke and got angry and responded. Either way, I really don't think he would have left had Hughes not left.
Faz_Rover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I bet the Board meeting will be interesting there's a player we can get for 9 million or some cheap washed up player for 2 million hmmm i wonder who we'll go for Silly question. £2million, it's Rovers, when was the last time we spent "big"?
American Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Most people's thoughts about us being able to sign Kightly are very hypocritical. Whenever a larger club in a European competition come in for one of our players it's considered bullying, but we can do the same thing with a large bid for a smaller club's player?
nicko Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Bear in mind that SSN get a lot of their stuff from the Joorabchian geezer...so there will be plenty of hype and tripe about Man City. Beware.

modes98 Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 there's a player we can get for 9 million or some cheap washed up player for 2 million Not really as simple as that. Jouquin: bad few years, high price. Pennant: rated at £6m by pool and had a rough few years. Kightly: £5-6m and a hot talent, no prem experience. Larsson: £5-6m, hot talent, limited prem experience. There don't appear to be any cheap options. You have to pay over the odds these days.

But we're Blackburn Rovers, we're the good guys in football!! Everything we do is legit.......just don't mention Robbie Savage...

Wolves are the same if not bigger than ourselves.
American Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 In a lower division, so in the grand scheme of things, smaller.
steven Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 What's the betting that the emergency board meeting is because of a 'break-the-bank' bid for Roque?
Guest Kamy100 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I was thinking the same thing since hearing that City are signing a £30 million player, it would make sense for Rovers to have an emergency meeting for a major bid like that, rather than discussing the possibility of an incoming signing.

rovers1993 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 nicko any news yet on the board meeting?
AussieinUk Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 well roque would fail a medical and the board wouldnt use that type of money for players anyways. Agreed. I cannot see us selling Roque. IMO - It has to be for an expensive right midfielder..
ally Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 SSN have confirmed that the Man City bid for Berbatov is official and has been accepted!!
AussieinUk Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 SSN have confirmed that the Man City bid for Berbatov is official and has been accepted!! Excellent.. Cheeky buggers and their money. What the hell is happening with the server today?!?
Ronin Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 What the hell is happening with the server today?!? Too many people logging on and refreshing I guess. Same happened when Ince became Rovers new manager.
AussieinUk Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Well, ANNAN has gone to Rosenborg, so he is crossed off any list
67splitscreen Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Wonder who the other two player are that MH has bid for
American Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 City has bid for - rumor is that MH is on the golf course. Now we know who runs the show.
imy9 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Lets not forget, YOU asked Aussie fans (of this board) for their opinions on him and EVERY Aussie fan responded by stating he is not very good, by any stretch of the imagination (i.e. answers were @#/?, shocking, rubbish etc etc). See below for your request on the 31/08 Your just being difficult and this is not the first time I have noticed this, on this board. Btw- I do think Van Gaal is a great coach (maybe slightly past it now, but still a great coach). I just raised the very valid question, of why would Van Gaal, sell a player that he has just purchased in the last two MONTHS?? You responded with some guff, that he needs a defender, now that he has sold one already from his squad (which still doesn't answer my question) Tell you what.. How about we wait and see if 'we' actually sign him today. Otherwise, lets keep an eye on him this season at AZ and see how he goes, eh? I asked the question, what are Holman's strengths and weaknesses and I got he is crap, rubbish, etc. At a push you stated that he had "some pace", not the most descriptive analysis of player that I have seen on here, would you not agree? "some guff" would be what Nicko has alluded to which is that Van Gaal has just sold two defenders to West Brom and as such is light in that area, he feels that Ooijer is more important to his team than Holman if it can be arranged, plus an obvious profit too. In the same way Coventry sold a croatian international player to Real Madrid after world cup '98 because they made a profit and they used the money somewhere else. I am not being difficult but it seems that you find it very difficult to accept other peoples opinion on here, I try to be objective with most things as you can see with how I have critiqued the player in question. We can wait and see to see how good Holman is for AZ, but as theorirically he would be in the Dutch league not playing with Rovers you point about him not being successful for Rovers would be irrelevant here, as Emerton won the UEFA Cup with a Dutch club starring as a right winger but cant play here for toffee!!
