Not necessarily. Deals don't always get done at the ground.

Well if not spotted at Ewood, at least spotted at Blackburn, you'd think players would at least want to see the area they are going to be playing in.

Saying that Xisco has been confirmed by his club that he has gone to Newcastle and had a medical there yet nobody has spotted him yet.

With the City takeover though this is certainly looking like one dramatic transfer window.

Hasn't Villa signed a contract extension today????!!!

WTF Is going on, the whole place has gone mad!

Didn't Mr. Nixon say that Joorabchian is pretty good at working the press.. I could bet City are closer of signing Makukula than any of the before mentioned players.

Hmmm, this all smells a bit suspicious. New owners linking themselves to every big name in football on the day they takeover...it'll end in tears, I tell thee.

Had to laugh at one city fan on SSN saying they heard the news and came straight down to get their season tickets, as they we're going to bother otherwise.

Job done...

If we don't capture a half-decent right winger before the window closes, I'll be mightily disappointed. We're obviously lacking in that department, and god help us if we try to soldier on with Emerton or Reid playing there.

No disrespect to Blackburn but maybe they would agree to sign more readily if they hadn't seen the place. :P

Although even if he has signed a contract it doesn't stop them bidding for him.

They have to move fast, they are not stupid and know that Berbatov is probably more likely to join Utd so I'm sure there are bids in the air for more strikers, whether or not it is Villa or not I don't know but there is a good chance that they are after another big name, big price striker.

Yeah imagine new owners promising to put in loads of money and then not doing, bound to end in tears.

They will be promising them a new ground next ................... sound familiar

I've highlighted the key bit there. So the people that are wrong are not only the Liverpool fans (Cally excluded, who thinks he amazing and that's why he wants to sell him so much), the Birmingham fans, the people who watch him on tv most games but those evil opta stats people who had his crosses as one of the least accurate in the league.

Instead of a 25 year old, who has had plenty of chances and thrown them away, why not go for a younger player like Larsson or Knightly, who have not been given a run at the big time yet.

People tend to speak out more quickly when they want to say something negative. Out here I am blessed with being able to watch basically every Premier League game. Sadly, I have to watch most of them with two Liverpool fans - the only two people out here in Beijing who seem to care enough about football to trudge along to the basement bar we watch football in to watch all of these games. Both are quite surprised that Pennant is not given more chances, especially seeing as Liverpool do seem to lack exactly what Pennant offers. Both they and I are not deluded. Pennant is not of that class to really excite Liverpool fans. He is, however, of the class to excite us. They said to me that Pennant could continue to do a reasonable job for Liverpool, but that he is not enough to lift them up to the levels they need to compete with Man Utd and Chelsea. They went on to add, without trying to be insulting, that Pennant would be a great buy for a second tier team such as us. But it is easy for Liverpool fans to slag off Pennant. He is certainly no C. Ronaldo, nor is he of the level of those multitude world class Chelsea players who squeeze into Chelsea's tight midfield. This is why they claim he is crap. His personality and past don't help as well.

I can't really argue with Opta stats and I admit that rating a player is very subjective. I may be wrong. But he does has massive potential, is still relatively young and he does seem to have matured a little at Liverpool. I remember watching him against Rovers in the U-17 FA Cup Final (when Arsenal routed us 5-0) and he was unbelievable. I have never been so impressed by a player as I was by him in that match. I have watched him quite closely ever since and am adamant that he would be a corking buy (for a team of Blackburn's level). Again, I may be wrong, but I really think he has the potential and the track history to be a great buy for Rovers. Ask more Birmingham fans what they think of him. He was undoubtedly their best player.

I have seen a bit of Larsson and would be happy at this late stage if we bought him, but I have never seen in him the talent I have seen in Pennant. Concerning Kightly, I must admit that I don't know too much about him aside from comments from people like you on boards like this. He is obviously talented and could be great. But then why haven't other teams gone in for him?

Anyway, each to their own. But personally I feel that Pennant could prove to be highly successful at Blackburn. Also, judging from the performance against West Ham, we are in dire need of a right winger. We really need to buy one and it worries me that Ince might not feel that way. There were so many times last season that I thought what would happen to Blackburn without either Roque or Bentley. I am terrified to think what our position may be come January if we don't sign someone very capable to replace Bentley who was, without doubt in my opinion, out star perfomer by a fair margin last season.

It is twenty past midnight now. Time to go to bed. Despite your arguments, I am still hoping - nay wishing - that I wake to find out that Pennant will wear the blue and white halves. I would be happy with either Larrson or Kightly but you must realise that we have not been definitively linked with either of these since Incey came. Therefore, for the sake of realism, I must admit that out of the likely candidates, Pennant must still stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Don't let the bed-bugs bite.

I find it interesting how you have made comments like: "Well, its better than your claim that he is as a great left footed, RIGHT midfielder!" When infact I have done no such thing to disprove everything I say. Oh by the way I think I answered your question about why Van Gaal wants a defender ;)

very sad..

You said he plays on the right (which was never the case) and then started trying to compare him to players like of Pires, Milner & Young... not me

You said Van Gaal is probably developing him and blew a 'large' chunk of his transfer budget to get him.. But then strangley LVG tries to get rid of him, within two months of his arrival and before he has actually played a competive game for AZ just down to a defender shortage? Gee, he must really value the guy, to do a swap straight away.

Who's angry? ...not me as I have seen Holman play.

Anyway, thank god for youtube, eh, otherwise you would seriously be without a clue.

Btw - You're actually Brett Holman aren't you, as your the only one who seems to defend him? ;)

Exactly...

I'm sure they have a few bob, mind, and will spend big. I'm just naturally cynical about these foriegn owners promising the earth, especially on the day they takeover. They've already set a target of top 4 this season and a league title next season.

I wonder when the ticket price hikes will be announced...
