Villa bid £6 million...rejected.

I am livid.

I cannot believe Villa have done so well in the window all to ruin it by not having enough up front to get high enough up the table. One injury, Carew or Agbonlahor..and we're finished. Both and we're in crisis territory.

We failed with Ashton and Doyle so to be expected, loan signing surely to keep us going till Jan.

To be fair, it's not been an easy vacancy to fill.

JOAQUIN - good idea, very expensive, strange lad.

PENNANT - bad idea, very expensive, strange lad.

I don't see how 5 million is very expensive for a decent English player. We paid 4 for Grella for christs sake. And that young United forward got a 7 mill bid for him. In this market I think that price is fine. He'd last years and have probably resale value.

But you dont have any insight as to what might have been the conclusion of the meeting?

I said earlier...Rovers pulled the plug on Holman because they would not let Ooijer go...and would not pay more money for Holman than they thought he was worth. That was on the agenda. The only thing that interested me.

As of right now I know of no other bid for a right winger.

The Berbatov case is going to be the biggest barney ever...just wait and see.

Surely there must be legal implications to discussing terms with a player that you haven't been given permission to speak to, the FA and PL must take action against Man Utd but they probably wont cause that would mean that they had balls and we all know that they haven't. Tevez, WHU

Campbell ISN'T going anywhere for £7 million. That was a cheap piece of hype by Hull City.

Pennant is expensive in terms of his price and his wages and - like I said before - he wants to stay at Liverpool.

He could think better in the next couple of hours.

But [a] do you think he will and do you really want him to.

The meeting couldwell have been an emergency following a couple of bids falling apart at the last minute. Maybe they wanted to discuss if there was enough time still available to find a replacement. I haven't got a clue but am merely questioning why you assume the board and Ince have been so "lazy" in their search for a replacement when there are so many possible explanations for the "emergency meeting" which to my knowledge has still not been officially confirmed and may have been something different anyway.

I'm sure they've worked hard to find the right player. I never called them lazy, but I do think it's strange that they waited until D-day to make up their minds. It's possible that they held the meeting to determine who to go for, and if the plan failed then they would wait until January - I don't know. I just figured we would've heard about a board meeting earlier in August from nicko, if there ever was one, about who was their first pick.

The board meeting was to go through the options for the last big vacancy.

NOT an emergency, just a sit-down and a discussion.

A bit old-fashioned, but when you look around...maybe not such a bad thing.

OK. Can't really disagree with that post. Thanks for the reply :)

carlo nash joined everton...brilliant. could be worse everyone, could support everton

How did we miss out on that one!!!

Bloody Everton and their free spending ways.

Berbatov:

I guess the deal is that Utd will convince him to join them, Berbatov will then tell Spurs it's Utd or nothing, Spurs can hardly keep him with his current mindset and possible deals probably relying on him leaving so Spurs will have no option but to agree a price with Utd and it will all get swept under the rug.

Unless Spurs stand their ground and keep the player at the club I don't think there will be any legal implications because they will at the end of the day have agreed on a fee whether they liked it or not.

Pretty awful in the whole scheme of things, saying that if anyone can help screw over Spurs them I'm all for it!

I don't see 5 million as expensive for him at all, but I agree the wages might be an issue. I wouldn't want to pay him more than 30k a week and it sounds like he would want more. But the price, come on. He's only 24? With market prices rising all the time, I can easily see us selling him on in three years for the same or even a profit.

Re: Campbell...do you mean they never bid it, or United refused it? Cos if it's just that United refused it, my point still stands that the offer was ridiculous and shows how much players cost now. That's half what we got for Bentley (well nearly as much when you consider the sell on), which is just shocking.

And yes, I really want him. I personally feel we shouldve tried for Wright Phillips; but too late. So I definitely want Pennant versus spending half the season with Emo/Reid on the wing.

That meeting should have been on Friday so at least they had the weekend to pursue any targets having a meeting today just seems a bit unprofessional

I'm seroulsy gunna ave to think hard about rovers if we do not sign a rw tonight!!

If we don't then we don't, the targets haven't turned up so we can't just go out and panic buy.

At the end of the day Emerton isn't the greatest on the right of midfield but if there is nobody available for the right price then there is no point spending money just for the sake of it.

I hope something happens but I don't want any mediocre replacements for Bentley.

Get a bloody grip! It amazes me all these fair weather fans, pi$$ off and support another team if you give up on a team due to YOUR percieved inactivity of the manager and/or boardroom.

Good god. <_<

Even the omnipotent nicko may not know of every piece of dust the cleaner misses. I'm sure the board are capable of a few closed doors meetings. This meeting has been referred to as an "emergency meeting" so by definition was surely in response to very late and recent developments, not a sudden realisation that Bentley was no longer turning up for training.
