HemelRover Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The lights are out at Villa Park. We signed the backbone. We signed the supply. We didn't sign the striker. Oh what could have been! Sorry for disturbing your website all summer in this Nicko thread. Good to have you Tom. Good luck at the Villa. and Faz Rover, it did make me smile.
RevidgeBlue Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Excellent news that Rovers have kept their heads and not wasted the cash pot on overpriced rubbish. If you go car shopping and have a shortlist of an Alfa, an Audi and a BMW, you don't switch to a Skoda just because you can't find the better car within your budget. The "Rovers have had ages since Bentley went" argument doesn't wash either. The world hasn't seen a sudden influx of ready made right wingers in that time. If the best available was Pennant, we're far better off leaving well alone. Nothing but trouble since he drove p!ssed into a lampost. If the lad wants to play football regularly he could have gone to Stoke. If Stoke somehow isn't good enough for Pennant, Rovers shouldn't touch him with a bargepole. Disagree on this one Tris , Pennant, Lennon, SWP, Joaquin etc would all be huge improvements on our current right wing options, Bert Mk 1, Reid, Derbyshire etc. If they're 'a Skoda' then we must be hoping to trade up from a rusty old 'Austin Allegro'
jim mk2 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Anyone trying to say that this is in some way a 'result' is deluding themselves. But not replacing Bentley is a definite minus. Say that to the brewery worker.
BPF Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Pennant Signs!!!!!!!!!!!! Official Site Who said Incey was colouring eh?? Is he banned yet?
LeChuck Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Pennant Signs!!!!!!!!!!!! Official Site Who said Incey was colouring eh?? A fake transfer story? Brilliant, I've never seen anyone do that before. How did you come with that? Such wonderful originality, such wit. Please post more often.
Big Archie Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 349: "Derby turn down a £2m bid from Newcastle for Giles Barnes, but they are still in talks over a possible deal which could see Shola Ameobi head south to Pride Park." "Newcastle have had a bid rejected for Sheff Utd defender Matt Kilgallon. Around £2.5m." BBC site They are rumours sent in by numpties via text messages its not real news from the beeb

ebenrocks Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Depressing? Relieving more like. You'd want us to be lumped in with that lot on SSN right now? It's an absolute and utter circus, football dissapearing up its own a** yet again, live on air. Watching these pretenders from down the road desperatly scrambling around to sign a vastly overated brazilian for 32 mil is a sight to behold. Sit back and let them get on with it. at least they signed someone. Lets not try and put any positive twist on this transfer window. Its been a disgrace. We'll struggle till january now, and knowing blackburn, we'll waste the whole of that window away as well. Id rather we payed over the odds and filled a position that will be increadibly weak now.

Is he even available? SWP - was always going to go to City once they were interested. Joaquin - apparently very happy in Spain. Just because they would improve our squad doesn't mean they would have joined us. We might well have tried for each of them at one point or another.

novella Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 can foreign loans still go through after the transfer deadline?
bedlum Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Has anyone explained to Robinho there are two clubs in Manchester!
RoverRich Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 How long before Ince looks to the free transfer market for a temporary right winger?
last-minute-win Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Oh my Man City are rich! They've signed Robinho twice according to SSN!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Let's just admit it - we've given up as a club, it's all to much for us competing at this level.
nicko Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Puffed and puzzled. Historic day. Sadly Rovers had no part in it...unless we have all missed something. Enough is enough for now. Had to bite my tongue on some things over the past few months and I don't like that. Taking a back seat for a wee while. Have a good season.
RevidgeBlue Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Let's just admit it - we've given up as a club, it's all to much for us competing at this level. Extremely galling when we're not even prepared to compete with newly promoted clubs like Stoke and WBA in the transfer stakes though.
EwoodGlory Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Cheers for the updates Nicko. Nice draw for the Jags in the cup Take a well deserved break.
Tris Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 So while the Formula One cars roar off in the distance Model T Ford Rovers are stuck on the starting grid. ######. There's been the same wailing and gnashing of teeth every transfer deadline for the last dozen years - a bunch of insomniac kids slagging the Rovers off for not doing x, or doing y, or doing z. We've always done fine despite all the rubbish spouted on here. Now there's an insomniac pensioner on board who should know better. Not news.
hollowsr Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks for everything Nicko! You've been great over the summer. You know your always welcome here!!
