67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I have got to stress these are players being watched...significant...but not sure there have been bids yet...in fact, unlikely at this stage. Can't keep Joaquin on the radar for much longer, the deadline is looming, and at €12m he is a steel.

Hughesy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Also anyone else noticed how things seem to be improving now that Chief scout Barry Whitbread is involved. Future looks bright with him as the main scout
hawkiiz Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 joaquin have been "linked" all summer havent he? things could be moving faster than any of us know? maybe we have been looking for cash, and now mr. keane is acting like our own little abramovich and splash our minds mad?
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Also anyone else noticed how things seem to be improving now that Chief scout Barry Whitbread is involved. Future looks bright with him as the main scout No disrespect, but is a scout not supposed to find young talent. If someone briefed you to find a right winger for under 15m, I think you would probably come up with a similar player.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Valencia need cash now, not installments of £40 a week! Interesting nicko! Mmmmmmmm
Hi Mack Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 No disrespect, but is a scout not supposed to find young talent. If someone briefed you to find a right winger for under 15m, I think you would probably come up with a similar player. True but Nelsen, Santa Cruz, McCarthy all had to be looked at, and the scouts had to pass judgement on them to see if they could hack it in the premier!
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Aalso interesting how whitebread is involved again with Ollic, yet liverpool were linked with him 2 months ago too!
Doaksie Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Nicko, In your opinion, how likely is the Joaquin deal to actually happen? Do you know anything of the reported meeting of the Valenica board tomorrow, to discuss the possibility of a transfer, as reported in the Spanish newspaper(I presume this is tosh, as you don't believe a bid has yet been lodged?) Cheers Nicko (especially for being the bearer of some encouraging news!)
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Olic would be brilliant. Joaquin would be... BENTLEY WHO?
Veevs Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I do love seeing the joaquin thing resurface: 1 - Valencia are having some cash troubles 2 - He did not play that many games for them last season (18 I think) 3 - Rovers have been linked all pre-season (more than likely due to rovers scouts being there) 4 - He lost his spanish first team spot (that must of hurt) My only concern would be wages and someone else coming in for him.. well and the fact he likes it in Valencia
ewoodifhecould Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Olic would be brilliant. Joaquin would be... BENTLEY WHO? He hasn't been the same player for at least 2 years. He is very much a home bird, leaving Seville has done nothing for his form.
brfcshabba Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I expect a denial in the Telegraph tomorrow or Wednesday
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 The only negative I can think of about Olic is that he's a little bit older than I'd like us to be going for at 28/29 - players known for their stamina and pace, especially strikers, can start to go wrong around that age. Both look like cracking potential signings - certainly a cut above the usual dross we're linked with. BBC says the transfer window has been extended by 24 hours, as 31 August is a Sunday this year.
Veevs Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 No disrespect, but is a scout not supposed to find young talent. If someone briefed you to find a right winger for under 15m, I think you would probably come up with a similar player. Players reach their prime in their late 20s (Joaquin is only just 27), and are established by that point.. Dont forget we are also looking at quite a few decent youngsters as well.. e.g. Hungarian RW lad (age 17) Barry has only just started the search for players, and nromally you should have a specialist looking for the young lads as well.. we do have a specialist youth scout right lol?
James Elliott Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I do love seeing the joaquin thing resurface: 1 - Valencia are having some cash troubles 2 - He did not play that many games for them last season (18 I think) 3 - Rovers have been linked all pre-season (more than likely due to rovers scouts being there) 4 - He lost his spanish first team spot (that must of hurt) My only concern would be wages and someone else coming in for him.. well and the fact he likes it in Valencia Not sure how many La liga games, but played 46 games last season in all competitions (45 previous season, not sure whether padded out with fleeting sub appearances), and has a fairly consistent appearance record down the years. Doesn't seem to be a perma-injured type. I think on balance, Keith Andrews is the one that gets the pulse racing.
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Wonder what Olic, and Joaquin would make of the OAPs at Brockhall.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 He hasn't been the same player for at least 2 years. He is very much a home bird, leaving Seville has done nothing for his form. I know he has suffered a really bad loss of form, and there was that transfer mess as well, but he has been a Spanish international for a number of years, and I was surprised he didn't get picked for Euro 08. Form is temporary, class is permanent etc.
Torgeir Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I have got to stress these are players being watched...significant...but not sure there have been bids yet...in fact, unlikely at this stage. Do you mean during this transfer window? We need a right winger and Joaquin ticks all the boxes to replace Bentley. Olic would be great too with his workrate and experience...Paul Dickov upgrade My dream moves would still be Alexis Sánchez and Pavlyuchenko but that'll probably stay a dream for a while yet.
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I expect a denial in the Telegraph tomorrow or Wednesday Bump, back down to earth.
vintageadidas Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Positive publicity. A first for a while. Links to two very good players. They must have caught the eye. Certainly add lots of quality to our team. How can ANYONE no be happy with that? I am happy even though we havn't even bid or signed them yet. So much better than the Keith Andrews links over the past months.
brfcshabba Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Bump, back down to earth. Better being pessimistic, then if it does come off you feel better
Hi Mack Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Olic looked very impressive for croatia vs England! Scored aswell! Good touch, good movement- Him and RSC
JAL Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 The 'news' is this: JOAQUIN - Rovers are watching him and that is one of the tales in the morning. I don't think they have bid and the price seems high. But they are looking and there is a chance. Sounds like Valencia want to cash in. The chief scout has watched his last two games...that is not a coincidence. I believe they went to watch Zigic and Newcastle, saw this guy and went to the game with Real Madrid on Sunday. That sounds like an interest to me, but probably not a bid already. IVICA OLIC - Chief scout Barry Whitbread went to see Hamburg at Bayern. I believe it was to watch the Croatian striker. He is available and good. Obviously that would be if someone left...like Benni. Sunderland are not at £9 million yet, but not far off. I'm sure there will some whingers who see this as negative in some way. In which case, consult your therapist. Any idea how old they are nicko ?
den Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 why? Because if you read the comments on the M.E.N., the overbearing opinions coming from city fans, are that they don't need another striker, they're problems are in midfield, right wing to be precise. Oh - and they DO have the money.
