Est.1979 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 looks like somebody's working overtime. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_4007411,00.html
philipl Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Any idea how old they are nicko ? Read back through the past two pages and all is revealed. Very excited by this. Been wanting us to move for true class players and looks like we are doing at last. Excellent to see Whitbread scouting like this and in effect being a quasi-director of football.
Roar of the Rover Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Amazing what a win can do for you isn't it? Not being negative or anything but I don't think we'll end up with any of the two. Olic won't come because I don't think Sunderland will come up with enough money for Benni. Joaquin, well it is a long long shot.
my_name_is_Earl Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Very happy with the Joaquin link. It would be fair to say that these he is a player who you would build a team around. Great record, great reputation. I would suggest that he could match the exploits of Bentley which with the signing of Villanueva will be a dream to watch (if we see anything like the form Villanueva is capable of from Youtube). Of course, this is all premature but its certainly encouraging to be linked with quality players. I have the feeling Ince is working on a major signing probably attacking based. I think once the excitement of transfer deadline day sets in, Ince will be there with the goods to bring in the quality.
hawkiiz Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Oh - and they DO have the money. where? and if they DO have a penny more than i have... shouldnt they spend it on their debts?
Veevs Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 olic is ridiculously fast, no way in the world spuds would'nt be in ahead of us along with probably 5 other prem clubs and a silly amount of foreign clubs. Too good to be realistic................who were newcastle after zigic or jouquin? Seriously, anyone care to speculate the possibility of pulling even 1 of these off i'll go 15% probability. (Benni=£9m)=world gone mad!!!!!!!!!! Newcastle where after no one.. scout was watching the Newcastle team and Zigic when they played each other in pre-season (NU won 2-1 btw)
Hi Mack Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Amazing what a win can do for you isn't it? Not being negative or anything but I don't think we'll end up with any of the two. Olic won't come because I don't think Sunderland will come up with enough money for Benni. Joaquin, well it is a long long shot. Let Tugay have the long long shot and it'll probably go in!
roverfanuk Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 If we signed the aforementioned 2 players, i think i might pass out with excitement... Nicko, how much do you reckon Olic would set us back?
rover6 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I'm heartened by these supposed targets but would Joaquin want to move to Rovers? I had him down as one of those "high-profile" players that would be looking for a bigger club (or Spurs) to join.
den Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 where? and if they DO have a penny more than i have... shouldnt they spend it on their debts? It's a VERY cynical person that would believe that City would bid for Rocky, without having the funds available. I'm not one of those. Also there was a Sunday newspaper article that told us where that money was coming from - a £25m loan against future TV revenue. Watch for Man City and Joaquin.
Roar of the Rover Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Let Tugay have the long long shot and it'll probably go in! We all dream
JAL Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Read back through the past two pages and all is revealed. Very excited by this. Been wanting us to move for true class players and looks like we are doing at last. Excellent to see Whitbread scouting like this and in effect being a quasi-director of football. This seems more positive philipl, doesnt it, about 'ruddy' time, hope Rovers can pull it off and are able to keep a bit of cash in the bank as well once Benni departs with all our blessing.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 looks like somebody's working overtime. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_4007411,00.html That has been on sky since about 8.30 mate!
RevidgeBlue Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Excellent to see Whitbread scouting like this and in effect being a quasi-director of football. Ahem.............Your idea of appointing a Director of Football is an absolute turkey and Whitbread will not be acting like a quasi- director of football. (Whatever that might be.) Whitbread might recommend players but Ince has the final say on who we sign and who comes and goes. Even if it was Keith Andrews. (Which it won't be but you catch my drift)
Veevs Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Thought this was a rather amusing wiki nicked from the Forbes magazine.. It is related to the current situation at Valancia.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richest_football_clubs Note the column "Debt as percentage of value".. not sure how they could be in the richest 20 in that case (guess it must just go on Value)
JAL Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I'm heartened by these supposed targets but would Joaquin want to move to Rovers? I had him down as one of those "high-profile" players that would be looking for a bigger club (or Spurs) to join. So when will the day come when we say ..'Rovers are a big club' ...and we stop beating ourselves up.
Manchester Blue Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 It's a VERY cynical person that would believe that City would bid for Rocky, without having the funds available. I'm not one of those. Also there was a Sunday newspaper article that told us where that money was coming from - a £25m loan against future TV revenue. Watch for Man City and Joaquin. City were all set to sell £15m of talent a week ago until Hughes pulled the plug. I'd expect that would be where the £25m loan is going. If City were so keen on Santa, why has the MEN changed completey to a stance of a move is now doomed to fail as he is set to sign a new contract? This new contract that nobody has heard about from our side. Nothing cynical about it, they needed a bit of good pr and they got it. Sadly it didn't help them for long.
Hi Mack Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 So when will the day come when we say ..'Rovers are a big club' ...and we stop beating ourselves up. When we sign Jaoquin and Olic!
JAL Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Olic from what I saw of him in the Euros fits Rovers motto arte et labore, to a tee. Get him on board Rovers asap.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Thanks for the updates nicko, neither link sounds at an advanced stage from what you say, but it seems a very encouraging sign that we're prepared to cast the net far and wide, and for a good calibre of player. What is the mooted fee were anyone to go for Joaquin? I seem to recall 16m being mentioned earlier in the summer, surely we wouldn't be interested at anywhere near that?

Links at the moment reporting 12m Euros-9.5 million pounds!
Majiball Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Mmmm so Joaquin and Olic if Benni goes to the wasteside. Curiously I thought he said the priority was a Sitter/Holding player, yes the axe had a good game, but can he do it all year. I'd rather see a Sitter than Olic although he's good. Nicko - do you know if we're still looking for one?? So when will the day come when we say ..'Rovers are a big club' ...and we stop beating ourselves up. Signings like those two should certainly put some bums on seats! A pole or two would help probably too.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Links at the moment reporting 12m Euros-9.5 million pounds! According to Soccerbase, Joaquin signed for Valencia on 01/08/2006 and has only made 9 starts and 4 substitute appearances in two seasons. Any reason for that?
Cally Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Joaquin is an inconsistent mess with a poor temperament. Probably just a leaked story to move the Pennant deal along.
