Thanks for the updates nicko, neither link sounds at an advanced stage from what you say, but it seems a very encouraging sign that we're prepared to cast the net far and wide, and for a good calibre of player.

Well if we sign them or not regardless of whether they are at a advanced stage or not, we have 2 weeks and counting...

If we sign only Andrews and Fowler, i think we will loose Cruz in the January transfer window. If we sign Joaquín and Olic, i think people might take the club a little more seriously...

According to Soccerbase, Joaquin signed for Valencia on 01/08/2006 and has only made 9 starts and 4 substitute appearances in two seasons. Any reason for that?

He's played 66 games for them according to the official Valencia website... http://www.valenciacf.es/

hopefully valencia will be dumb enough to believe that when we try and haggle the price down.

Why, is it not right about the appearances?

I'm just asking because I don't know anything about him and 9m quid sounds a lot for us for someone at the peak of his form, let alone someone who has barely played for two seasons.

(He does seem to have been picked on occasion for Spain though despite this)

he's made 66 appearances for valencia.

Ok, thanks - 9m sounds much more acceptable in that context.

Jaoquin is a very good player who had a good first season at Valencia but didn't fare as well when they changed manager. Valencia are prepared to sell him according to goal.com, although the mooted price is €15million. They need to sell someone and aren't willing to part with their two prized assets, Silva and Villa.

The comment on his temperament seems to be contradicted by one of his team mates here

Edit: He was also a regular feature in the Spanish side for some time, but lack of playing time last season cost him a place for Euro 2008

I think there are some dodgy stats floating around on the web in regards to number of apperances I thought he had only played 18 (plus lots of games as a sub) but the wiki and the valancia sites show him playing a hell of a lot more (but not sure how many where as sub as they dont seperate them).

Part of his dip in form last season was down to off the field personal issues, and on the field Frank had a bit of a nightmare all round.

Well even if neither of these comes off,Im glad that Ince seems to be moving in the right direction as far as transfer targets are concerned.Would love to see Joaquin at Ewood,it would really give the fans a massive boost and hopefully convince the critics he is the right man for the job. :tu:

Mmmm so Joaquin and Olic if Benni goes to the wasteside.

Curiously I thought he said the priority was a Sitter/Holding player, yes the axe had a good game, but can he do it all year.

I'd rather see a Sitter than Olic although he's good.

Nicko - do you know if we're still looking for one??

Signings like those two should certainly put some bums on seats!

A pole or two would help probably too.

Andrews as a box to box player rather than a sitter at a guess.. would be a bit odd though 1.5m 2nd div player linking up with joaquin..

Cripes, you lot are easily excited aren't you?

No little blue pill needed here is there - just a couple of tenuous links to players.

So all of a sudden Ince is the Messiah and everything's gravy just because of some spin? Don't get me wrong, both may be viewed as the 'top' signings so many have clamoured for (and I'd love it, as KK exploded), but what happens if they don't come off? Probably just go back to slagging off Andrews.

You're just setting yourselves up for a fall, surely?

Patience, Timothy.

We've been linked with some top quality players for a change.

Ollic reminds me very much of a certain short scottish striker we use to have. He never stops running the sort of player who puts in 110%

Joaquin is highly rated but I haven't seen much of him to comment.

The thing you have to remember about the likes of Joaquin and Olic, is bar Carlos, they are far and away the fastest players we would have if we sign them!

Imagine the following formation:

Robinson

(Brown)

Ooijer-Samba-Nelsen-Warnock

(Simpson)-(Zurab)-(Nolan)-(Olsson)

Joaquin-Grella-Dunn-Gamst

(Emerton)-(Tugay)-(Carlos)-(Treacy)

Santa Cruz-Olic

(Roberts)-(Derbs)

Don't know about anyone else, but if we line up with that after the transfer window, we all have reason to be excited IMO!

Edit: Just to add, i think we should hand Nelsen a new 6 year contract after reading what he said in that article! Priceless!!!

Neilsen cant understand why Roque would leave for a poorer team ha ha!

I'll hazard a guess and presume these are the comments below. I had a smile on my face when I was reading them in the LET yesterday dinner. Go on Nelsen tell it how you see it pal B)

The Paraguayan striker showed no signs of being distracted by Manchester City’s approaches last week.

But Nelsen was unsurprised by the professionalism showed by the former Bayern Munich ace.

“It was no surprise, to tell you the truth, to see Roque score,” said the Rovers captain.

“He’s a quality player. It was a beautiful run by him and a beautiful finish.

“I don’t know why Roque would want to leave the club. He’s not going to go to a better team.

“He’s really happy here and I don’t know why he would want to go to a team that’s not as good.”

It's good to be linked to players of Joaquin's calibre, even if I do think that he'll never come to Blackburn in a million years.

I'm sure that I read before somewhere that Olic stated that he can't be bothered to move clubs again when Liverpool were linked with him earlier this year:

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...3797321,00.html

Although the article mentions van der Vaart (and he subsequently moved anyway), I still don't think that we'd have any chance of landing him.

even after this transfer window, you dont want to party a little bit if we get some goodies?

i also think its unlikely for us to land joaquin, but does it matter? at least we are linked, and it seems to be a real target. it shows ambition and hints at the style of play we will see under ince.

oh. and the nelsen comments are ACE!!!

nicko. we have been linked with joaquin for a while. any truth apart from what happened now? if we have been in for him for some time, do you think "someone is urging us to keep trying" like the warnock-toon links?

and is it true that joaquin was denied a new contract, and thats where the comments form silva is coming from?

Nicko has already commented that other than Chelski, Rovers are probably best placed financially to move in the transfer market of all the EPL clubs.

If you look elsewhere, Real and the Italian big 3 have done their shopping whilst there are no Joaquin vacancies in the EPL except at Rovers.

Ollic is likely to be a different kettle of fish as Man U and Spurs have definite striker vacancies and Barca also need someone whilst there has been such a dearth of striker talent in the market, other clubs could go for him to bolster their squad options- even Arsenal and Chelsea.

At least Rovers have the wherewithal to buy Ollic before selling Benni if that is what transpires.

But this is the level of player Rovers have to be looking for.

And an interesting thought, if Benni goes for 9, these two come in for 10 each, Rovers could still have a nice kitty left depending on the size of the Arsenal sell-on clause.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, make this happen!

Are we sure it's not Joe King we're after? Going off the video only, he looks a bit chubby, he's going bald, and he's all right foot. However, in his defence, it looks like he can sing a little if that Valencia signing photo shoot is anything to go by.

In all seriousness though, this would be a fabulous signing - but one can only presume Spanish wingers don't have much competition. I distinctly recall de/di Pedro being quoted 'as the best winger in Spain last season' on signing at Rovers, pity his legs got lost in transit on the flight over though. What's the word on the street regarding this guy's form then? Is he likely to be another one with hunger to get on top of his game, or come to live in Wilmslow and go shopping?

Hey, even being linked with players of this calibre is good news, but again, let's wait and see. IF we get this fella we'd possibly be well balanced left/right midfield with two exciting, pacy, attack-minded players which fits Ince's supposed tactical preference. Wonder what Mr Bryan Clough would have to say about Youtube these days? He'd probably be revising his 'if football was meant to played in the air, there'd be grass in the sky' quote.

If - buts - maybes.

If he comes in, maybe he will play well, then we can say well done, celebrate, party, laugh at the Dingles, and feel smug.

Until then it's like dreaming of driving around Fort Lauderdale in a Ferrari with Megan Fox but then waking up & realising you've to take the missus to work in her old Fiat Tipo in the rain.

Best news for a long time. I hope they are both true and if I had to pick one it would be Joaquin who I think was world class 2-3 years ago. He has faded at Valencia but nothing that a change of scenery cant fix!

Olic is one of the most hardworking players, and boy is he quick. Perfect foil for Roque. Unfortunately he isnt the most clinical of finishers but he would still be better than Roberts or Derbyshire on that front.

Get them both in!
