Bobby G Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I am sure they have probably now secured some money. Question is how much and what will they buy with is, this late into the window?

hawkiiz Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Drogba and Eto'o are world class, but so is Torres. and joaquin. Just asked a Spanish collegue (and massive La Liga follower) what he thought, he said... "As far as I know he asked this weekend to Valencia's president for an increase in the salary and the president answered with a strong: "NO" So....why not spanish power playing for Blackburn!!?" Anyone know how much he is on at the moment at Valencia? If it's less than 60k (what we were offering Bentley) it could improve our chances. thats correct. i read the spanish paper AS. the quotes from Silva in all the papers (Skysports ect) used with the rovers link, is in fact quotes about joaquin being denied a new contract. so. he was NOT offered, but according to silva, he is still happy.
Bobby G Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 and joaquin. Whats the latest on Annan? Doesnt look like anyone is in much of a hurry to sign the guy...
Ewood and I Would Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 For God's sake the term "World Class" is totally subjective anyway, how do you define it?
dave birch Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 It is a confusing situation Ricky. One or two things make me fairly confident that City will find money for new players. The fact that City made a bid for Rocky is one fact. I really can't believe they did that without having the money available. Another fact is that Hughes himself said they had money to spend. Can't see him coming out with that and leaving himself open to criticism if City don't strengthen and continue to struggle on the field. Thirdly, THIS article in the Times, backing up a similar story in one of the Sunday's. Den, that's called a mortgage. It's something that people do when they haven't the money available. To use future tv money is scary. That's like you borrowing against some possible future income of your own.
Bobby G Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I am reading on the Guardian that we rejected a 9 million bid for Benni on Friday. We must be crazy to do that for someone who doesnt even start for us.

novella Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Probably told them to come back when we have a replacement lined up this week.
Billy Castell Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Almost makes you want the next TV deal to be lower. Securing loans against future earnings sounds very dodgy to me. Too many things can go wrong. I think Citeh may indeed do a Leeds. I wonder what the board room are feeling about things? And is there a sense of panic developing in the managerial/player areas?

Can't see him coming out with that and leaving himself open to criticism if City don't strengthen and continue to struggle on the field. Thirdly, THIS article in the Times, backing up a similar story in one of the Sunday's. My take on it Den is that:- a) They bid for Rocky, yes. But it was a derisory offer which they knew we wouldn't accept. So, no danger of actually having to shell out and the bid was good PR. Bluster from Hughes to take some pressure off his back c) 30 mill sounds a lot, but I think they'll be using it to pay the wages and installments on transfer Svennis completed. I doubt they'll be making any significant purchases soon. don't forget they had to borrow from a former director, last month was it, to pay the wages.
philipl Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Cannot see Joaquin being on anything like £60K at Valencia. Similarly, an EPL club like Rovers should be able to burn off Hamburg on Olic's wages. EPL media deal £1,800m, Bundesliga media deal £600m- what's the point of having all that cash if we cannot pinch their best players?
Mr Creosote Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Well, the MEN is saying City have pulled out because of a new contract offer, but the truth is they know rovers wont sell. As for them having money for new players or not, we'll see over the next couple of weeks. My bet is that they DO have money available for Hughes. I'd take that bet. Judging by the M.E.N. blogs a lot of City fans would to.

Moray, Macau, China I like that comment under the article...very true
Oklahoma Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 It seems we are not after a CM anymore but, if Ince still wants one, Maniche is on the transfer list. His manager just confirmed this. And if Atletico Madrid buy Banega from Valencia, He is out of the team for sure. I have no idea how good Joaquin is playing recently. If it was like 3 seasons ago, he would be a great signing.
hawkiiz Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Whats the latest on Annan? Doesnt look like anyone is in much of a hurry to sign the guy... its awfully quiet. weird. if nobody sign him wihtin this month, then stabæk will for sure tie him down. their loan deal ends this month.
den Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Den, that's called a mortgage. It's something that people do when they haven't the money available. To use future tv money is scary. That's like you borrowing against some possible future income of your own. Yeah, it's a dodgy path to be taking, but we're talking City here. We'll see whether they can bring anyone in over the next week or so. Bet they do!
tchocky Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I know he has suffered a really bad loss of form, and there was that transfer mess as well, but he has been a Spanish international for a number of years, and I was surprised he didn't get picked for Euro 08. Form is temporary, class is permanent etc. Javier De Pedro... Extreme example I know, maybe Albert Luque is fairer. Too dear IMO. You're just setting yourselves up for a fall, surely? So it seems. Although I'm excited by the prospect of Joaquin, there is a very real danger of it not working out, in the unlikely event that he actually signed. I am reading on the Guardian that we rejected a 9 million bid for Benni on Friday. We must be crazy to do that for someone who doesnt even start for us. That can't be right. Surely he would be long gone if they had bid that? Probably told them to come back when we have a replacement lined up this week. Hopefully Now Olic would be a class signing. It seems we are not after a CM anymore but, if Ince still wants one, Maniche is on the transfer list. His manager just confirmed this. And if Atletico Madrid buy Banega from Valencia, He is out of the team for sure. Dude, you never stop with this guy. Must be about the 100th time you have mentioned him. I don't think we've ever been after him, and by the looks of things we never will. If you want us to sign him you should call Ince and see what he thinks...
imy9 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Drogba's 50 in 109 is in the last 4 seasons not 3. Torres has 51 in 105 in the last three. Torres scored 24 last season, Eto'o has managed to beat 20 league goals twice and Drogba has NEVER done it. Drogba and Eto'o are world class, but so is Torres. Last season was the first time Torres has ever scored over 20 league goals in a season and his team won what? Drogba has scored 50 in 109 games and won? Two leagues and an FA Cup. Eto'o has won 2 La Liga, 1 champions league, 2 spanish supercups and a Copa Del Rey!! One excellent season does not make you world class especially when your contribution to the team results in NO trophies! But hey back on topic, any ideas how much Olic is going to cost?
Eddie Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Guys, discuss this elsewhere. It has nothing to do with us.
novella Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 On another point Derby have handed Julien Sable a trial this morning.
Valois Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 http://www.setantasports.com/en/Sport/News...Premier-League/ Looks like the Grela deal could go through today. £4milion seems steep. Any truth behind this report Nicko? Also any truth behind the Joaquin link, or is this his agent drumming up interest in the player, to start a bidding war.

Grella still surprises me, but there we go. Joaquin is very real...Olic developping a bit too. And there could be a lot more going on today. There's a closed-door game featuring a couple of well-discussed names, Carlos and Robbie I believe. Plus a top striker who has been invited in for a quick trial - but with a Premier League rival leading that race. I WON'T be naming him just yet. All of the other stuff will have to be kept back for later unfortunately.
