Could somebody just let me know why saviola would be so great ?? Am i missing something or has he been basically missing for the last couple of years at barcelona ? I know he is very well known and a ruddy cm god but why should he be able just to walk into rovers ??

i Know why he was missing last year at Barca- probably because he'd moved to Real Madrid!

He has struggled, unsuprisingly to get ahead of Ruud van horseface, Raul, Robinho and Higuain at Madrid. Thats hardly a bad thing.

I didnt think anything of it, but it fits with what Nicko has said...

Yeah, same type of trial as Nicko suggested just a day to see the place & get a feel, I get the impression this happens a fair bit with foreign players but we just dont always here about it

He came over to England to look for a new club as Munich no longer wanted him. He came to Rovers for a couple of days and was due to go to Man City but Hughes took him on the spot.

No one bought him on spec from Bayern as 1) He had played very few games the previous season 2) he had a very poor injury record. No one wanted to take the plunge without looking him over. Luckily we were first in the queue.

Also part of it no doubt was that he is moving to a new country and wants to check out what the clubs interested are like.

Sounds like the Saviola situation is exactly the same to me.

Little update...

JOAQUIN - The prices quoted earlier - the 12 million and 3 million - are in euros...otherwise the info from Spain is accurate.

SAVIOLA - He is NOT the player I was talking about coming in on trial. Newcastle are currently trying to sign him on loan.

MYSTERY STRIKER - If anyone knows this I will hold a steward's inquiry. There is no way this name could have got out...and won't do until it moves on.

No word on the closed-door game. It's only half-time.

Because he was on a free transfer. Madrid knew that either he would refind his form and force his way into the team or they could sell him on for millions.

And Roque did NOT come for a trial first. He was signed from Bayern Munich for a fee.

I think he joined the same season as Robinho and Higuain. MAybe he thought he was good enough to break ahead of Raul and Ruud.

I would take a wild guess if we are bringing a top striker in on trial its more than likely because he has not been a regular in the first team where he is playing.. i.e. to check on fitness levels before making a bid.

As everyone else is throwing names around.. Pobolsky, Zigic, Adriano (may not be as daft as it sounds) and Saviola have not been regulars for their respective teams.

Considering Nicko said that he is a target of one of our rivals.. then excluding guys who are not regular first teamers Pavlychenko (or however you spell it), trejo, Arshavin (No way he would move to BB), Uche, Vagner Love are the other guys currently in the shop window for UK teams

Adriano sounds very plausible hasn't he had injury problems etc, was loaned back to brazil last season but of those options you mentioned I would prefer Podolski, connections with Santa? and what a left foot that boy has!!!!!!!!!

I was certain Cruz was being offered around and came to Rovers for a day or two so we could look over him before we brought him in, after we had agreed a fee etc, with Man City still interested. No one else remember that? Oh, well. Probably dreamt it or something.
