Because I'm a football fan not just a Villa fan and I find it interesting to talk about the game with people who support other teams.

Well said TV. As far as I am concerned, and obviously I can only speak for myself, you are very welcome as are the various other fans of other clubs. As long as the visiting fans are only here to exchange football talk in a civilised way, then what possible harm can it do? Rather the opposite; it can only help football fans in general to understand each other and their respective clubs.

I guess I will have to keep posting this.

John Williams has been on Radio Lancashire to say no bid was ever received for Benni and there have been no new bids for RSC.

The rough workflow for the transfer market:

Enquiry (with figures..)

Get press involved

-->Then repeat until near the right price/pressure

Official bid

-->Repeat until accepted

Sign the player

Or if your fools..

Don't enquire

Tell press

Official bid at daft level

Totally, 100% agree. I think the board is a better place with such posters from other sites. The only people I'm against from other clubs are pure wind-up merchants and those just pestering Nicko without contributing elsewhere because it just clutters the place up. I think some people on here are a bit precious (for lack of a better expression) about people being a Blackburn Rovers fan.

I think it got as high as £7 million.

Don't know how this will impact the search for another striker.

That's incredible to turn down £7M for him. Should've bitten Keane's hand off and put it in the already bulging coffers. He's one player we can afford to see leave.

Ditto that.. peeps like TV, Ffan and co contribute.. and don't mess around with constant questions regarding their own teams..

Fair play to the both of you.. I just hope more of your kind come along..

If we have not accepted that kind of offer for Benni it is criminal. I realize JW has said no concrete offer was received but it's quite clear that there has been contact between us and Sunderland over his sale. If there was any chance of us getting £7 million + for him we should have snapped their hands off.

As for the argument of keeping him i completely don't buy it. Benni typifies everything that is wrong with football. He is by far the laziest footballer i have ever seen and it pains me to see him strolling around the park not giving a crap. He is simply there to pick up his wages and live the high life as can be seen by the kind of shape he has come back in. Yes he is a very talented guy and can be one of the best strikers in the premiership when he puts a shift in but Benni NEVER puts a shift in. Not once last season. And he cannot play with Roque. So much so that even if he were to be sold i think we would cope absolutely fine without even replacing him as in my opinion he is not even an integral part of the team any more though with the money we could have got for him we could have bought a class striker in his place.

Those saying it costs a lot to replace a 20 goal a season striker yes you are correct but i have no doubt thats not what we will see from benni this season.

I think people are kidding themselves if they think the old Benni is going to return. From certain performances (Bolton away sticks in the memory, but there were many more) he was pathetic. Im not totally convinced that he is that lazy, but he certainly doesnt bust a gut for the cause. He is a talented guy, but I feel defenders figured him out and his lack of pace and strength is very apparent. He looks past it. I would have accepted any money for him as I cant see him contributing anymore. Its a shame as I like the guy and he was excellent in his first season! If Nicko is accurate with his 7million estimate though...what were we thinking?!? He is 31!

NB, regarding his lack of strength, i doubt his recent weight gain is bulk gained from a summer of hard sweat in the gym!

If that's true (even turning down £5 million would astound me) then I really don't know what to say...but the feeling in the pit of my stomach when I read it was worse than Andrews, Fowler and Friedel's departure combined. He's 30 and a bit crap, I'd be delighted if we could just get our money back for him, let alone turn a profit.

We know benni can score 20 plus a season. that is why he's worth keeping. There arent many of those going around. £10m would be fair considering how much a potential replacement 20 goal a season striker would have to cost.

We know that Benni can score 20 goals a season almost as much as we know Fowler can. They both could score 20 goals. Last year Benni looked like he could hardly score any from open play.

Now this is bacause:-

A) He's past it and is not the player he was. Some players do deteriorate sharply (or Lee Sharpely !)

B) He didn't really try last year in which case we are better off without

C) He had a very bad patch of form which lasted a full season.

If we had never seen the 2006/07 model McCarthy and someone was offering up to £10mill on last years performances we'd be snapping their hands off. I'd sell for anything more that £4mill. We've probably had as good a season as we'll ever get from him and if we can actually make a profit on him then that's excellent business.

100% agreed. If rovers have turned down anything above 5 million It will be plain stupidity.

According to the site calciomercato.com, Grella's agent Sergio Berti is in England to finalize a deal with Blackburn Rovers.

Grella will receive 1.5 million € per year and Torino will receive 5 million € for the transfer. it is not mentioned the duration of the contract.

So, Grella and Andrews in, no need for another center midfielder.

Oh for crying out loud. It should be Andrews OR Grella, not both.

I was quite excited about the Bentley money, I thought we'd replace him with someone good (though not as good as Bentley obviously) and use the rest of the money to bring in quality elsewhere. As it stands, we're going to have a far worse starting eleven, but we'll be more bloated with average players than we already were.
