Veevs Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 We should sign Thiago and/or Maniche. Not sure how much either of those two lads would cost.. but personally I would go for Toulalan.. again not sure how much that lad would cost but he is supposed to be excellent.
Stoic Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 The LT have just picked up on a story that was in Italy on Tuesday which when I spoke to Grella afterwards he denied. He could have been ducking the question but I don't think anything's happening there, at least not yet. The "talks already underway" news seems to be some rather premature reporting from a few days ago. However, the latest seems to be that Grella can't talk about proceedings, so presumably that means something is now happening for him not to talk about.
tonyoz Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 This seems to end the Roque leaving debate: “We made an offer for Santa Cruz last week and were told, in the bluntest possible terms, to forget it,” Cook said yesterday. “We have been told to give up on him. Mark is adamant that we don't, but it's fair to say that the window is closing and that Blackburn have closed it on us.” link: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle4576358.ece
philipl Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Unfortunately, Villa are coming in with a £16m bid for RSC whilst looks like Sunderland have switched to Carleton Cole. Nicko has his bit about Keith Andrews in the Mirror.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Well, City have taken the hint - just Villa and possibly Spurs to go now.
HemelRover Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 but personally I would go for Toulalan.. again not sure how much that lad would cost but he is supposed to be excellent. You are talking serious money to prise him away from Lyon. Much more than we could pay.
roverfanuk Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Here we go again: The Sun Believe Villa About To Bid £16 Million For Roque... Any truth in it Nicko?
JAL Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 And there lies your answer. Cisse has only just come in,spit the Diouf is more of a right midfielder and as for the rest...well to be honest i wouldn`t have a single one at Ewood. But would you have Keith Andrews and Robbie Fowler though?
dave birch Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Hang on, that reports says "final 9 mill bid". Can't see that being accepted. "He has already had a £7m offer rejected, but will return with a final £9m bid. O’Neill said: “We are still actively trying to get some people in.”
briansol Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Hang on, that reports says "final 9 mill bid". Can't see that being accepted. "He has already had a £7m offer rejected, but will return with a final £9m bid. O’Neill said: “We are still actively trying to get some people in.” That was regarding Milner. Leaving 16 mill to bid for Santa according to the newspaper. I'm not worry as we're not gonna sell Santa Cruz anyway.
neophox Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 We don't need to sell Santa Cruz and we won't. Who will score the goals if he leaves? Im sure that Ince will sell both McCarthy and Roberts before selling our best player at the moment. Don't worry.
Hughesy Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Unless we received a Berbatov style bid of around £30m then surely we wouldnt even entertain it. RSC IS NOT FOR SALE!!
JohnS Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I think if we sell, we are mad!!!! Agents play a big game in transfers these days, there the ones who encourage opposing clubs to bid. Santa Cruz can't lose here, he can now say to Blackburn, i want a new contract. I just can't wait till Sept 1st 12.00pm, i will have a nice cold beer to celebrate Santa Cruz still being at Ewood.
nicko Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Not much to add from yesterday... ROQUE - Man City phoney baloney 'bid' is now dead. What a surprise? Wait until you see who they drag in instead. Laters, as the man said. Villa won't go to the money needed. Move on. MCCARTHY - The Cisse Sunderland deal may yet hit a late snag, so that one could come back on. I don't think there is any chance that they will sign BOTH. And the £10 million figure just seems like fantasy. ANDREWS, FOWLER - Same as it ever was. ISRAELI KEEPER - Should come in today, over for a few days. JOAQUIN - Down to price, but other right wingers still being watched. So that is far from settled. GRELLA - Somebody trying very hard to sell him. Yet to be convinced on this one, but willing to stand corrected.
ebenrocks Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 we wont sell him, even for silly money. We've apparently already rejected a silly money offer for Benni Mac, who isnt even first choice anymore, why would we accept one for Roque? When Ince says 'noone else is leaving', i think he might mean it... or alternativly be too stubborn to back down on it.
alexanders Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 JOAQUIN - Down to price, but other right wingers still being watched. So that is far from settled. A certain someone from Wolves? Do you have any updates regarding the Hungarian lad and Jordi Lopez? Cheers.

I hope they do. But if we have got Ollic lined up I would take whatever we need to bring Ollic in.

But if we have got Ollic lined up I would take whatever we need to bring Ollic in. Sunderland offer silly money for everyone. Keane is awful in the transfer window. I think if they made an offer it would have been in the region of 6/7 million, which i think with any other manager would have been accepted. Thing is, rightfully or wrongly Ince made his 'noone else is leaving' statement, and he's far far too proud/stubborn to go back on that.
philipl Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I posted a link in the relevant section. JW told BBC Lancashire yesterday that no bid has been received for Benni.

It is his fault if people go, it is his fault if they stay?! I think quite rightly Ince wants to control who stays and who leaves. No point letting McCarthy go unless we have somene lined up. Back your manager.
JC4LAB Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 During the relegation battle/ promotion battle it was said last year that staying in the Premership is earns you an extra £60 million a year...Cashing in on big money offers for your best players is a poison calice...
Ewood and I Would Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Thing is, rightfully or wrongly Ince made his 'noone else is leaving' statement, and he's far far too proud/stubborn to go back on that. To be fair he did also say that "no one leaves unless I want to sell them" so if he wants to sell Benni then he wouldn't be going back on his word. However he has since mentioned McCarthy by name as someone he doesn't so then again...
