Villa fans going on about their perfect owner who spends from his own savings on top players is getting as tedious as their delusions of breaking into the so called "big four"

I can't wait until they start putting up ticket prices to pay for their lavish summer spending on the likes of Shorey, Young and Sidwell.

The arrogance of writing off teams around them like Blackburn, who have a team just as capable of pushing for a European spot, just sums them up.

Santa cruz won't go for less than 20 million, I believe that Rovers value him at £24 million and I doubt villa could match that!!

I don't think we would sell him for even that.

Not many days to go until the window, inexperienced manager and unable to get a replacement of his quality willing to come to the club all spells out he is not for sale.

Sick and tired of the media trying to sell the guy from us, its like we don't deserve decent players so we should cave in to whatever club comes along and makes an offer.

If Roque goes Ince will end up going in my view.

Whether we like it or not, Villa are an attractive proposition for players, they have a vibrant look to their team, similar to Leeds a few years back and we all know what happened to them. I really hope Santa Cruz doesn't go and i fully expect him to be here on Sept 1st, but i also wouldn't discount MON's Villa, they are obviously being encouraged by someone, but like i said before i wouldn't be surprised if Santa Cruz wants to negotiate a new deal?

This seems to end the Roque leaving debate:

“We made an offer for Santa Cruz last week and were told, in the bluntest possible terms, to forget it,” Cook said yesterday. “We have been told to give up on him. Mark is adamant that we don't, but it's fair to say that the window is closing and that Blackburn have closed it on us.”

Total lack of class, talking about opposition players is just a poor mans way of unsettling players, Hughes wouldn't be part of that when he was here, and certainly John Williams wouldn't conduct business in such a way.

I tend to side with Nicko on this, they've not got a pot to p*** in, so talking about signing big name players is all they can do, Everton do the same thing season in season out.

I can see 5-5-0 at city this season , much in the same way we played when Hughes first arrived at Ewood :D avoid relegation at all costs......

I'll answer that Den. Given a long term injury to Torres .... yes.

I want to answer it too. Sorry for keeping off topic..

With Carew's injury record I can see them struggling for goals if Agbonlahor should lose form over the season. They just look really thin up front. So, no top 4 for Villa this season.

I hate Villa, their fans have been tossers in my experience, but if they did break the top 4 oligarchy I would appreciate their achievements. Put it this way, I'd rather Villa got into the top 4 than Spurs. However, if they want Roque, then we should set a price of £25m+. If Berbatov is worth that sort of cash, then someone who scores goals throughout the season is worth that too.

Interested to see who these other right wingers are. I guess Pennant is one of them.

Ouch..now now. ^_^

We won't buy Santa Cruz for that price, I don't think it would be a case of not being able to but it's just not logical for a team of our current standard to be spending 20m+ on a player, having money and then chucking money anywhere should never go together. To be honest, like I said about David Bentley at the time...I don't want them for that money. I don't think Santa Cruz would add enough to us to warrant 20m of our money, so I don't want him. Wheres the need anyway, I'd be surprised if MON really went at this as we've already got Carew and Agbonlahor who have done a fine job for us...it's not like we struggle to score goals or anything we just concede too many.

I heard we wanted Kevin Doyle to add a bit of pressure on Carew and Gabby without actively knocking one out the side unfairly, I think that'd be a better idea, suits us and suits you as no more Santa Cruz rumours.

I think Nicko is right, some of our fans get ###### off when he says we can't afford things but they need to remember we're not Chelsea, we've spent a ton of money already this summer so if people think we can spend another 20m on Santa Cruz, 9m on Milner and then money for one more squaddie, then they need to get off their cloud and realise we can't. Doyle, Milner and maybe a couple more would be plenty. I hate how our fans attitude is turning into a spending competition.

Villa fans are starting to become as bad as Spurs ones. Yes you have a rich owner, a decent manager and some good players - but you are not a top 4 club and realistically it is going to take alot more than signings like Sidwell, Young and Shorey - they aint in the same class as players from Liverpool or probably even Spurs to be fair.

Face it - you are 2nd tier along with Everton, Pompey and little old Blackburn.

I thought the Saviola deal was dead after the Newky Browns asked for his £125k per week salary to be paid by his own club. Cheeky so and so's.

That's just paper talk. Saviola said last night that he's received no offers at all yet. To be honest, I don't know if we really are in for him. I just find this rumour I heard abour Roque a bit confusing because I can't see us going for two strikers in the next 10 days.

Sorry Tom, its just that my sister had a dislocated jaw, and my brother in law had a brick thrown at his head whilst policing derby match against the porno boys. And someone broke into my dads car and nicked the radio when he went to Villa Park a few years ago. Villa do not like my family.

Anyway, if we keep strong and resist Villa's desires, we should be OK. Spuds won't move until they get rid of Berbatov, and I doubt Villa will fork out £25m+.

In which case Villa might get a little closer - for one season.

The top four are SO far in front of the rest it's untrue. Some other club might take advantage of a major downturn in form, - for one season - and that would be whoever is nearest to them at the time, not necessarily Villa.

The foundations in place at the top four clubs mean that no-one in the medium term can match them.

Um, I think thats a bit harsh. It is his fault if people go, it is his fault if they stay?! I think quite rightly Ince wants to control who stays and who leaves. No point letting McCarthy go unless we have somene lined up.

Back your manager.

Thats not what i said atall!

I said 'rightfully or wrongly', personally i think it is an excellent thing that he is wanting to keep our players, am just worried that say the money got really silly on mccarthy, like 9/10 million, and Ince decides to sell him, he'll get ripped to shreds by the press for going back on himself, and all our players will become fair game for the premier league vultures again.

I am backing the manager.

Sounds not so bad to me, a few years ago we were 16th. I can handle that type of progress. You shouldn't let a minority of fans make you believe we're all deluded. I know we most likely won't make top four, I'd be delighted to make top 6 again considering the extra games we play this year.

I don't pay that much attention to the signings other teams make to be honest, our team on paper is nothing THAT special, it's just a good system that we have the players for with the odd top player like Young and Barry. If we ever got into the higher bits of the prem it wouldn't be with a special side full of classy names, it'd be a side which gets results and is effective.

Policing the Blues Villa game, ouch. I was at that game, the police locked all the Villa fans into the away end car park, the Birmingham fans surrounded it and were throwing bricks and bottles over the gates at all of us, it's a rough match all the time mainly because the Birmingham fanbase is scum. Mind..so are a few of ours.

Parking near Villa is a 50/50 shot of getting robbed, again ###### area.

There won't be anything to resist, we'll never bid 20m.

Let Villa have Zigic, keeps them off RSC (hopefully).

Some Villa fans are scum, all fans have an element. I have met some very decent ones too.

However, we are not best of friends at the moment. Expect trouble this season at both Villa Park and Ewood.

I don't see the problem, nothing significant has happened between the two teams bar us buying one player off you. I think Liverpool are the bad guys at Villa right now.

There is one way? Persuade Bill Gates or the Sultan of Brunei to get into football. People have very short memories as the term "big four" is only about 4 years old and was the Big 3 until Roman came along. Chelsea were a mid table team before 2003

However it is sad that the only way to break it is to get a Billionaire owner who isn't too bothered about where is money goes.
