JohnS Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Is that Arsenal one Gareth Barry? It just shows you hard transfers are, Everton 5th best team in the league and they can't sign anybody.

den Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Everton trying...nothing new there. Zigic I believe.
dellinsert Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Will Elano be stopped from playing until payment is sorted?
ffan Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Zigic I believe. I think they will buy whatever they can get their hands on at this stage.
Veevs Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 all hell will break loose next week at this rate.. Shame nothing new on the rovers front.. boy I worry to much, dont you think us delaying on big moves is a bad idea though, Nicko surely the last min competition(given our penny pinching) will up prices and given our lack of reputation worldwide make us the underdogs compaired to other clubs?
roverfanuk Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nicko, one simple question. Is their allot happening behind the scenes at Rovers, ie, frantic, or is it rather controlled and relaxed?
frosty Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nicko, could the price of Joaquin drop a little as the transfer window nears to a close?
Ricky Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Lets get back on track guys. This is a BRFC only thread, no questions about other teams please.
American Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Someones's going to come in with a Takeover bid. That's my guess. The perfect time to pick them up for a song.
AussieinUk Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nicko, one simple question. Is their allot happening behind the scenes at Rovers, ie, frantic, or is it rather controlled and relaxed? Good question. May I also add to this? Nicko, Do we have another 'closed door' game lined up with anyone (i.e Wrexham XI)? Just to test out these trialists..
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Any news on Joaquin?? is there still a chance this could be pulled off?
Mc Love Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 We could do allot worse then Ireland you know... Would rather him the Andrews anyway!? I have a weird feeling Ireland will go to Boro though! Funniest thing i have heard all day....would take Andrews anyday over Ireland, Stephen is a muppet who wouldnt even deserve a place in rovers squad
ffan Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Funniest thing i have heard all day....would take Andrews anyday over Ireland, Stephen is a muppet who wouldnt even deserve a place in rovers squad Ireland is from where I am and although he's a weirdo he is a decent player. Would be way better than Andrews in my opinion.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Joaquin staying put? http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...-future-update/
AussieinUk Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Joaquin staying put? http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...-future-update/ You beat me too it RVR - Just posted the same thing in the transfer links section. Looks like he is staying - well that means Pennant is probably back on then...
Al Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Probably just Valencia trying to panic us. What do you think Nicko?
SCS Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Man City with another Brazilian. I presume it's this guy: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_4031588,00.html Never heard of him. Wonder if the payments in 130 installments?
Lurid Coat Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_4031051,00.html Ince talks about no one for sale, unless its £20 million, if thats not a hint what is?? "I am telling you, no one is for sale, unless somebody offers me £20million for a player, which is not going to happen, then no one is for sale." Cue Taggart launching a £20m bid for Roque next week
AJW Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 that puzzled me the other day when roy keane wast talking about transfer's , and clubs saying "players arnt for sale at any price" but he knew players were for sale , a lot of people thought this could have been directed at us with benni mcarthy ...well what if it was RSC he was talking about and rovers would under no circumstances sell benni , while other clubs were bidding on RSC, We'd be really in the mire if we let benni go now , then someone comes in a figure aug 31st for RSC we couldn't refuse
StaffsRover Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 "I am telling you, no one is for sale, unless somebody offers me £20million for a player, which is not going to happen, then no one is for sale." Cue Taggart launching a £20m bid for Roque next week Doesn't that make the assumption that Taggart considers Roque to be worth £20 million? I am not being argumentative or even trying to widen the Roque debate (not that this emotive subject requires any more catalysts!!) BUT, most importantly, nor am I trying to speak with blue and white tinted Raybans!! WE adore Roque, WE think Roque walks on water, WE think he can find a cure for cancer and resurrect John Wayne..........this is because WE are Rovers fanatics. The rest of the league consider Roque to be a very good striker.....VERY GOOD striker.......they don't consider him to be a Torres, Adebeyor or even Arshavin. The point I am making is this.......I don't believe any of the clubs would put a value of £20 million in his head and would, therefore, not be prepared to pay that much. Spuds shirked at £19.5 million for Arshavin.....a man they had almost bet their reputation on getting.....are they therefore going to pay MORE for Roque??? I doubt it. Villa will never pay £20 million for anyone because, like the rest of the clubs in and around them it is far too much of a risk. That leaves the big 4........Arsenal are a no....they have Adebeyor, Chelsea are a no.....they don't need him.......Liverpool are a no.....they can't afford £18 million for Barry.......that leaves Manure and ONLY Manure. Taggart...loathe him though I do, is a very shrewd man....he never pays over the odds for a player and will not start with Roque. It is too much of a risk to throw all his eggs in one basket on one man who would have to demand regular first team football to support the amount paid for him. How would Tevez and Shrek feel about that? Could he keep them all happy?? In a nutshell I am saying this. WE value Roque so highly because he plays for our club and we love what he does in a Rovers shirt. That doesnt mean a plethora of clubs are now going to FedEx a £20 million cheque to JW anytime soon. My first post......keep up the great work mods.
DeadlyDirk Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I presume it's this guy: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_4031588,00.html Never heard of him. Wonder if the payments in 130 installments? We should be going in for him, Thiago Neves is a quality player. Hope City don't manage to get him! As for RSC, Ince said it himself, a £20 million bid isn't going to happen, not for any of our players.
Ronin Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I would say that whatever Berbatov goes for then, heaven forbid, Roque should go for the same.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Ince said it himself, a £20 million bid isn't going to happen, not for any of our players. And if a bid of that size does come in what do we do? Ince made a mistake today in naming that price as its only going to fuel speculation further and send the media into overdrive in order to unsettle the player. A bid of that size is unlikely but it would be foolish to rule anything out in this sport. Why has there been a change in stance from saying the player isn't for sale at all to £20 million and we will think about? Complete madness if such a deal happened.

Why has there been a change in stance from saying the player isn't for sale at all to £20 million and we will think about? Complete madness if such a deal happened. I don't really think it would have mattered what Ince said in terms of speculation, all summer he has been saying Roque is going nowhere, half of the Blackburn team have said the same but still the media run with it. This won't have any impact on the speculation. It wasn't Roque he was specifically talking about , it was any Blackburn player in general, just a general statement that he doesn't want anyone leaving. Sure he could have picked a slightly higher number such as £50 million but its just another way of saying nobody is for sale. I can't see anyone bidding £20 million for any Blackburn player regardless of how good he is. We only got so much for Bentley because of the sell on clause. Even IF someone did bid £20 million for RSC specifically I don't think the club would accept it anyway.
