The Man City news in the papers is fascinating. Chairman Garry Cook has done a remarkable interview with most of the papers.

Turns out the Premier League are all over City like a rash.

To paraphrase:

Shinawatra may stand down because of the trouble he is in and causing...Premier League have spoken to City...rival chairmen have complained...City are looking for partners...but Shinawatra wants to keep 50 per cent...club admits transfer cock-ups...ouch!

Like I say, there may be a further installment on the drama on Sunday.

This is THE story anywhere in football right now.

Will there be points deductions or anything of the sort?

I'd imagine, if Thaksin had to stand down and they couldn't find a backer, administration and a deduction would follow soon after.

The Sunday People may provide a few answers...

In the meantime I am truly puffed.

Good evening.

If thats the case how are they getting money??? why are they signing players. I don't want to see any club go into administration, its savage the only real losers are the fans and players. How many points do they stand to lose?

Wardle must be kicking himself.

Not read many details but i suggest RSC signing a new contract and presumably eating into funds by doing so might just limit our ambitions regarding signing new players. Double edged sword.

Thats a good point, can imagine it was the kind of contract offered to Bentley, I've no idea what he was offered though. Hopefully the signing on fee was not too large, and the wage budget can swallow the rest fingers crossed.

I doubt it.

I'm sure his wages will have gone up no more than £10,000 per week, or £520,000 a year. Any extra sign on/agent fees from the deal will make year one worth no more than £1m.

Considering noone will realistically expect him to see out the four years combined with his huge sell on potential, I seriously doubt it will be a major issue.

I agree. But who expects to see RSC at Rovers at the end of the 4 years? Most likely he will move on before that, thus saving money on the rest of his contract. B)

Cue PhilpL to argue the toss and come up with same insane figure- such as his 'Dick Advocat is on 8 million a sesaon rant'.

Your figures sound about right. He would of obeen n around 35-40k initially with a 10k pay-rise and a sigining on fee of between 500,000k-1 million. Its a pittance when you look at the money rovers should have floating around.

Must agree - This will surely be trotted out as the answer to "where the Bentley money has gone"

Given the alleged transfer kitty we are supposed to have I am getting the feeling that no 'exciting' signing will be brought in for the right wing. If we only end up with Fowler and Andrews by the end of the transfer window it will have been a poor window IMO.

Exactly.

One must remember that this news in nothing more than a (albeit very welcome) token jesture, the main intention of which is to show other clubs we aren't going to be pushed around, and also to keep the fans happy.

It is very rare a high earning player who has only been at a club for 12 months signs a new deal so soon. This is exceptional circumstances, and JW knows this, and would never throw silly money away to achieve such a thing.

Ah, good old Rovers fans. Finding a negative in our best player signing a new deal.

Of course, RSC being contracted for four years doesn't mean he'll stay for four years. However, him signing a new deal has several benefits for us;

1) It sends a signal that RSC is not looking to move. If a bid is accepted he'll talk to them I'm sure, but he's happy here and not looking to leave

2) It's also another statement that we're looking to keep him. These first two points will help discourage any bids in this transfer window, and should still have some effect in January

3) It sets us up well for the future. I wasn't at all worried that he'd leave this summer, but if he has another season like last year, I think we'll really struggle to keep him next summer. Him having three years left rather than two will help us get a better fee, in case we have to sell. It will also let us keep him for yet another year after that and still have resale value, if that's what best for us.

Basically having him under contract for another year is in no way a negative thing, however much theno would want to blame Ince for something at least once a day. I'd also reiterate the point already made, that that the financial consequences aren't a big deal. He came here rather cheaply, after several poor seasons. He wouldn't have been on ridiculous wages. I obviously don't have access to the figures, but I think that even with a new deal he'll be earning less than many other Premiership strikers of similar quality.

Quality costs, and the cost of not doing everything in our power to keep Santa Cruz at the club would far outweigh the cost of giving him a new contract. A contract which he has earned through his performance on and off the pitch since signing.

Yes, but if you offload someone else on alledgedly around 40k per week then it balances out.

Maybe thats the double edge, Benni out a young cheaper alternative Pinto or A.N.Other in.

Clearly Frank thinks he'll fail the fit and proper person test and wants to be less visual whilst having all the power and influence. That's not going to wash.

What / how does a club get punished for him being a scumbag....he can't quickly sell up. Relegated below stockport ?

Daily Mail spot on again:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...-Blackburn.html

Below the picture of Roque scoring vs Everton, it reads:

At the double: Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz controls the ball in front of Everton's Joleon Lescott in the season opener which saw the Paraguayan score twice

The worst its done is eat some of the wages given up by Savage, Berner, Henchoz and Encks. I can't see how we can loose with this new deal...

I didn't think it was possible to find a negative in this but you managed it. Well done!

 Seriously mate - if the window ended tomorrow then it has been a great window thanks to todays news. RSC is far more important to us than a new right winger. No good having great wingers if the strikers couldnt hit a barn door. We have players that can do a decent job on the right, the key to our summer was keeping Roque.

Thank you Roque, you have made me very happy and Im so proud that you have choose to stick with us. Its nice to see some loyalty.

FEED THE ROCK AND HE WILL SCORE

Posted on the Citeh thread, this stuff is dynamite. Hughes is described by Cook as some kind as backward-looking moron.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/au...p;feed=football

this cook chap seems to be mentally retarded , a league of 10 teams with no relegation? how do plot losing halfwits like him get positions of power and wealth.

By the sound of this interview he'd force hughes to play a bollywood star just so they could sell shirts in india. Mark Hughes must spend his spare time building a uranium engine for his delorion, city are a shocker!!!!!!!
