Not read many details but i suggest RSC signing a new contract and presumably eating into funds by doing so might just limit our ambitions regarding signing new players. Double edged sword.

Good news from Ewood. You must be gutted.

Cue PhilpL to argue the toss and come up with same insane figure- such as his 'Dick Advocat is on 8 million a sesaon rant'.

Your figures sound about right. He would of obeen n around 35-40k initially with a 10k pay-rise and a sigining on fee of between 500,000k-1 million. Its a pittance when you look at the money rovers should have floating around.

Deflecting the Dick Advocaat one onto the collective boys in the media who reported it and whose links I provided.

I think RSC is more like a £20k+ a week rise.

This bit will pass over your head BNSG but nicko reported ages ago that there was a £35k a week rise on the table for Bentley which he did not take up so at the moment the budgeted increase in wages for the 2007/8 season being used in RSC's rise is my best guess. The club has not publicly said what their 2008/9 budget or target is.

The £60K figure (assuming we are all hearing correctly) can be put in the context of the £47k a week Bentley actually signed for at Spuds. Bentley's motivation seems to be wierd- gone for £8k a week less than he would have got at Rovers to be played out of position and dropped by England. Early days but has the makings of a risky move to say the least.

By my calculation, the wages Rovers are paying RSC probably means that only the Big 4, Newcastle and perhaps Villa would not have to break their current wage structures to sign him. Yes we are still vulnerable to losing RSC but even if as we all hope, he hasanother 20+ goals season, Rovers have given themselves a very decent fighting chance of retaining him next summer.

Next summer by the way, the window will be against a backdrop of fears of a fall in TV money for the Premier League. In current economic circumstances, both Sky and Setanta will miss their projected revenue figures and unless Disney fancy entering the fight, clubs will be thinking in terms of 25% less coming from the paymaster in the sky.

Taking a snap shot at 23 August 2008, financially Rovers look remarkably good and capable of handling such a downturn better than perhaps all except 6 other EPL clubs.

The situation at City is dire to say the least.

who cares, he is staying at thr mighty ROVERS.......

Posted on the Citeh thread, this stuff is dynamite. Hughes is described by Cook as some kind as backward-looking moron.

got about three 1/4 down and got board, but i agree. Dont htink hughes will be happy..........

Two words, Grass Greener!!!

Man City stuff was pretty revealing...but it's not the whole story yet. ;)

On Roque's new deal, I can't see a downside. OK, he must have got a big rise - £15,000-a-week maybe more - but he is MUCH better than anyone expected.

If Rovers pay him well - which they have with 'stars' in the past - then he stays happy.

There was only Man U as a threat because they could pay the fee. Now that moment has probably passed...I don't think they would look again next year.

Fair play to the club for moving fast and properly. Leave it at that.

I don't think it will stop any incoming signings going through. That is down to time and judgement.

Nicko- leaving aside Fowler and Andrews how many realistic signings can we expect at Rovers by the end of the window?

RESERVE KEEPER - Israeli [if he does well] or Gueret [if the price is ok].

RIGHT WING - Up in the air right now.

MIDFIELD [2] - Andrews [probably], Grella [maybe].

STRIKER [1 maybe 2] - Fowler [if he likes the deal], Zigic [loan - possible], Pinto [if he impresses].

So, probably four but maybe up to six.

Nicko - With these trialists being monitored at the moment (Levi & Lopez) are there any planned friendlies on the cards (i.e similar to Wrexham) before the window closes?

It would be a good idea, but I don't think one is planned yet.

The keeper is due to go back to his club early next week, Pinto is probably here a bit longer. Lopez is a totally free agent.

January window I supported the club in not over paying on transfer fees and wages.

Now I can see no legitimate excusefor the club failing to make a signing that can take the playing side a big step forwards.

Joaqin and Ollic aside, there are none on the horizon and certainly not amongst the names Nicko has just mentioned.

Surely, Rovers Must remain tight with the money philipl, the whole of the prem could be staring at financial meltdown in coming seasons so bargains will be there to be had in the near future.

If the club can maintain their positive image as a GOOD for the premiership whilst being able to provide a very healthy wage for its employees linked with the new manager having to prove himself to his paymasters and supporters.

Slowly but surely sustained success can be acheived but not by blowing all the cash in one go with a new manager who you feel still has to prove himself.

Do you think the delay in the Fowler contract has anything to do with waiting to see the impact of Pinto and Lopez ?

The Man City news in the papers is fascinating. Chairman Garry Cook has done a remarkable interview with most of the papers.

Turns out the Premier League are all over City like a rash.

To paraphrase:

Shinawatra may stand down because of the trouble he is in and causing...Premier League have spoken to City...rival chairmen have complained...City are looking for partners...but Shinawatra wants to keep 50 per cent...club admits transfer cock-ups...ouch!

Like I say, there may be a further installment on the drama on Sunday.

This is THE story anywhere in football right now.

What could the premier league do to Man city if their owner is considered unfit and proper - could they impose sanctions? deduct points - relegate them. Or is it just a simple case of telling the owner to sell up and go and not punish the club. To my knowledge nothing like this has ever happened to any other English football club since football started. Could Fifa also act against the club - and against the premier league if the league did nothing to punish the club.

The excuse is that Ince and his team are playing catch up with signings.

Hughes had a team in place for years and had scouted players for months, maybe years.

Ince has had a MONTH, he has said on an interview on Rovers World that he does not want to waste the clubs money and wants to make sure that the players that he signs are quality ones.

Lets make a judgement at the end of this transfer window, I sense we may wait until January to purchase a right winger.

Ditto, that would represent no more than a £4m or so outlay, depending on the RW situation. Surely we have to take the initiative, given the relatively strong financial position we are in.

Ray Mathias on talksport last night was talking like Folwer has pretty much signed and a done deal. Also stressed that Matt Derbyshire will still get a chance, and they have seen what a good finisher he is in training.

On Roque, said Santa simply loves the club, and the club loves him!! Talksport presenter (who is a C**K) asked if he was surprised that Santa decided to stay with us, Mathias said no.

Heard Mathias speak a few times and he sounds a decent type.

Do you think the delay in the Fowler contract has anything to do with waiting to see the impact of Pinto and Lopez ?

I don't think he is being offered much money and he is maybe taking time to think it over.

Funnily enough I think it will come down to whether or not he thinks he is wanted.

There is a lot of anti-Fowler stuff around that is a bit unfair...it would be good if he was back to something like his best.

So, let's see how it pans out. Right now I would say 50-50.

What could the premier league do to Man city if their owner is considered unfit and proper - could they impose sanctions? deduct points - relegate them. The Sunday People has the tale...and you can call that a plug if you like...and it is quite a good one although I say so myself.

Nicko any indications on lineups? You dont have to give anything away, but do we have reason to be excited to see Carlos start? Cause I personally doubt it...

Strong squad to pick from today.

I can't see any reason to change the side.

But I do think Carlos will at least warm up this time...maybe send him on at 3-0 for the last hour.

With the financial maestros on this MB, I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but Rovers will be holding back money for the Jan transfer window. Not only to, probably, sign Villaneuva, but as a contingency in case we need to call on Christophe Duggary/Jon Stead to save us from relegation....

Ince has actually expressly stated something about the Jan transfer window being important.

One of the obvious problems with bringing players in, which I think John Williams will be emphasising, is that the squad is already large. Whilst, financially we may be able to sustain a bigger squad, ideally we would ship out some players. I mean, Ince has added Judge and Treacy to the travelling squads, we have a few other in the demimonde (Gallagher, Olsson, Kane) - overall, we have quantity (if not quality in every position).

Ince has said that no-one's leaving - but what he means by that, I'm sure, is no-one he wants to stay is leaving and, realistically, no-one wants our fringe players. There have been a few reports that Zurab is available for another club at the right price. In addition, I suspect Ince (and JW) want to see Johann Vogel and Sergio Peter go. And with us looking at a reserve keeper, Jason Brown exiting would probably not be a disaster for the management, either.

The size of the squad and the strikers we have is one of the reasons why I consider the potential Fowler signing a definite wrong turn. Fowler will take up a space on the bench that could go to someone more talented.

In a strange way you can't lose right now.

1 - you don't spend too much and have enough to be mid-table in January...and then know what you want.

2 - you spend - maybe over the odds - and should be around 7th to 10th in January...then you decide whether to go again.

I would be pretty relaxed about this just now. Roque staying is huge, the defence looked good last week, a midfielder MUST be signed, probably a right winger too...but if you look at the opposition you don't have any fears for the campaign.
