Sorry Joey

15m is at the low end of what our transfer budget was expected to be this pre-season.. and has been discussed many times.

5m Hughes (Well advertised figure)

10m Transfer budget (Quoted prior to the season starting)

6m Bentley sale (Well advertised figure) I think you will find that your figure for bentley is on the low side3m from the trust (As per press release)

2.5m Brad

Total: 26.5m

-?m Ince

-0.5m For Carlos loan

-?m Simpson loan

-3.5m Robinson

Total: -4m *excluding simpson and Ince which won't be more than 2m in total

Overall total: 22.5m

We have in the region of 25 million to spend not 15. 10 million is a big big difference

So we can say somewhere between 15-22m in total waiting to be spent.

We should have netted at least 9-10m from the Bentley sale, but after allowing for bringing in Paul Ince and the backroom staff your figures shouldn't be too far out (asuming of course we ever had 10m to spend in the first place)

We should be able to absorb an extra 1m p.a. in terms of Roque's wages without it impacting on the transfer budget unduly.

I thought we got more like 9m from the Bentley sale. But the extra from that is wiped out by needing to keep 3m in reserve if we want to exercise the option on Villaneuva. I think we need to commit that money by December to buy Pineapple man. Is that right Nicko?

With Benltey leaving that would have freed up some money within the wage bill. Don't think Simpson and Carlos will be on too much. Robinson, anyone know how much £ he is on?

despite what one or two think our main forwards signing a new deal is only good news.

as for midfield players you have to have the right mix, some flair players some what I call bite and get players, so its up to PI to get that mix right.

I am glad to hear that PI is spending the money wisley and waiting for the right monment to buy.

The fact is we have 15m to spend??

im sorry but how is this factual? maybe we can calculate what money we have brought in and compared it to what we have spent but thats where our knowledge stops!

what percentage of this is allocated for new transfers is something that none of us know!

Will supporters finally realise, there is NO figure of cash available to spend, its no use speculating and it winds people up.

Undoubtedly there is cash available but please stop going on about potential figures being available.

If Rovers identify a player and bid for him great, only then will we see the colour of Rovers dollar.

Move on,,,, next stop Ewood

No, I don't think it is a silly thing to discuss. Money has come into the club, we do have a certain amount of money available roughly in the arena of what has been quoted.

Im not saying we should fritter it away, certainly not waste, maybe even not spend it if appropriate targets around - we a re not Spurs or Newcastle.

But "How much do we have" is a very valid and pertinent question. And 15m strikes me as about the bottom limit.

I'm not too worried at the moment about the transfer window.

The most important thing for me was keeping hold of Roque which now looks as certain as anything can in football, at least in the short term.

We have a decent squad with a fair amount of depth so what we need to look for is quality not quantity. Ince has been very patient up to now and I'm happy to see it, I'm sure he will only pick signings who are right for the club, and if the deal isn't right then we'll simply keep hold of our money and wait. I believe we are a top 10 side with the squad we have now so there is no need to do any panic buying.

Anyone who wants to entertain the idea of us being in a relegation battle this season has lost their mind and needs to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.

I expect one or two to be added, I'd be surprised if as many as 6 came which nicko said could be possible, it's all well and good having competition for places but bringing in too many at a time can unsettle a few players.

As for players leaving, as long as we get a suitable offer I'd be happy to see Peter go, he's never really done anything of note and is no longer the promising youngster he once was. Zurab has been a good servant to the club in his relatively short time here, rarely in the team but never complains about it. Always does a good job when he plays so I'd be more than happy to keep him but with the fact we can't promise him regular first team football I'd be willing to let him leave if a club came in with the right deal.

McCarthy is so hit and miss at the moment it's hard to watch but if he revitalises himself he could easily get 15 goals or so for a premiership club. For that reason I'd like him to stay really unless we get a silly offer, even then I'd like him to go abroad as well. His technical ability isn't in doubt, someone just needs to get him to pull his finger out, maybe Ince is that man.

Touch wood it won't happen but if Roque was to get a long term injury then it would put a lot of pressure to get goals on a strikeforce of Roberts and Derbyshire with the likes of Gallagher for backup if we don't keep McCarthy around. If other strikers come in before him then of course its a different story.

I'd still like to see us bring in a right midfielder to be honest, Reid had a decent game against Everton and it'll be interesting to see who plays today with Emerton back fit but I'm not sure if either of them are the right choice for a club pushing for Europe. Other than that I believe we still need a quality general midfielder if we want to try and push on, Mokoena had a great game against Everton but it's unlikely he is the long term solution and can do it every week.

Of course if we did bring in two more midfielders you would have to look for cuts, surely Peter would definitely come into that ecategory, perhaps the likes of Vogel too.

I'm kind of just rambling on now so I'll just be quiet...

nicko,

Any team news today? Just Vogel and Olsson missing out as reported by the club or have their been any developments?

Nicko, obviously I'm delighted that Roque is staying, but do you think it is likely for him to have asked for a release clause in his contract?

Was just thinking the exact same thing. We're a pessimistic bunch us Rovers fans aren't we!!!

A bit of creativity would be useful on the right. Joaquin seems like the fella to me. We need that sort of player who can pick a pass as well as supply some pace.

Also for the weaker teams who are going to defend we need a striking option who can lead the line and be good in the air. Roberts is excellent but his lack of quality in the air means we can't cause panic against deep defences. Zigic or this Pinto fella maybe fits into this category. McCarthy can go I think - I don't see what he can offer.

Three words - Shaun Wright Phillips.

Playing every week would be an attraction to him, as would a return to the north.

Chelsea now appear ready to sell/loan out as Scolari all but said this morning. We have the money, get in and get it done.

NICKO - Has he even been considered?

I agree with

Too expensive

Wages ridiculous

although I wonder if being surplus at Chelsea might change either of those (transfer losses won't bother them overly and he's been there a good while)

As for can do better... SWP was devastating at Man City and I firmly believe that given an extended run and a small bit of luck with injuries he would be as good again. His crossing has always been a little suspect, but that can be worked on. He had an eye for goal. I would be quite happy with him here, especially if Joaquin does not want to leave Spain

Nicko,

How closely do you work with football agents after that rubbish you printed in the People last week about the Hungarian kid being... the next Beckham.

How are you qualified to make that assumption? :o

My guess is he would be available for around £5 million or even better still on loan with a view to a permanent deal, if we can get him to drop his wages a fair bit it may be worth looking at, but if he becomes definitely available my guess is there will be other clubs willing to match his wages. Sunderland, West Ham, even a return to City, they would all probably match his wages since they seem to enjoy throwing money about.
