Cally Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 DIC and excellent business men doesn't compute. Hicks and Gillett ate them for breakfast. Don't expect them to splash out vast sums anyway, they're a private equity firm and only in it to make a profit on their investment and then sell on. They probably just want to test the water at city and see if their sums add up.

roverfanuk Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 So Nicko, apart from Andrews and the GK, their is zero Rovers news?
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 So Nicko, apart from Andrews and the GK, their is zero Rovers news? Have a feeling that Ince might be spending a lot of time on You Tube tonight!
Roar of the Rover Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Have a feeling that Hughes might be spending a lot of time on You Tube tonight! Hughes? Anyway if Hughes is on youtube, tell him King Carlos is taken!
DingleBaiter Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 DIC and excellent business men doesn't compute. Hicks and Gillett ate them for breakfast. Must be the American in them. The very fact they didn't get into that crackpot situation suggests DIC were the smarter cookies, no? I like the way you suggest there's a negative to DIC wanting to profit from Liverpool. Can't think of many prospective owners of clubs that don't want to, or have no ulterior motives. Odd ones like a certain Chelski man may make it as a plaything, but they're the exception. So what did the Mad Yanks (plus Canadian) exactly get into Liverpool for then? I somehow think Liverpool may have had cash to buy players, wouldn't have raped their board, would not have a manager that's fallen out with Parry (whatever position he is now), nor have two owners that hate each other & are desperate to sell, wouldn't have had to refinance their debt already, would have built the ground as originally proposed (without third party funding) etc. if DIC had been involved. End of day, DIC or the Mad Yanks, the club would still have been sold on as a business venture somewhere down the line. Thing is, it would have been done in a somewhat more professional way with DIC I'd suggest. Nicko, being it's effectively the last full working week of the window, do you think there will likely be a flurry of activity from Rovers or more of a damp squib? Strikes me we've either pulled off classic flanking manouevres misguiding the media and there may be a few un-named targets they're sniffing, or (more likely) we've run out of targets either through not ticking all the right boxes or at the right price.
herbergeehh Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Dunn - Injury Prone Reid - Crap Mokoena - Crap Andrews - Cover Vogel - Cover Tugay - Past it Don't think anybody will be leaving. We need more players in the centre midfield with more quality. Last thing we need is people leaving. Last thing we need is people leaving? If you were right about the players above, we wouldn't miss any of them would we. Besides, we don't need MORE players, we just need to replace one or two of the above with real quality.
Cally Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Must be the American in them. The very fact they didn't get into that crackpot situation suggests DIC were the smarter cookies, no? Yeah, getting gazumped and then coming back a year later to offer double the original price. They're sharp as a tack. Ps. We've spent a fortune since the yanks came in. Don't believe everything you read in the press.
BRFC1995 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 what happens when liverpool really are for sale in the not to distant future, as the saudi fellas behind DIC where apparently liverpool fans as the rumour had it so surely they'd rather own them and not garbage like cshitty. Not allowed an interest in 2 clubs, that situation could be quite good if they pulled out with city having even more players on mega wages at the time. Regardless of money with that guy cook in charge and the backward logic he has i really can't see city doing much.

Cally Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Is that a trick question? Anyway, this is not exactly the thead to discuss that particular boring issue. I still think you're in for Pennant. Left out of the squad again today and there was talk in our Echo last week that a deal with a unamed club was close to completion. Maybe Sunderland.

Veevs Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Boy this is amusing.. in a twisted kind of way.. we are going to be in for a fun old few months.. I wonder what frank offered them.. and as the old saying the rich get richer.. who are the only other Saudi/UAE run team and how much do they have to spend each season? Please don't slate me for the following.. It is well known that the UAE are running a little short on the Oil and gas that have made them the rich country (or is it countries I never know with them) they are. DIC is one of their ventures.. along with Tourism (and some other interesting ventures) in an attempt to keep them going when the oil does run dry.. they have the pennnies and will spend to get what they want.. sadly for us that will probably be on ManC if they succeed in taking over. As for Blackburn.. in some ways we started the ball rolling but we where funded by a fan of the club and dealing at the high end of the rates in those days.. imagine how much Shearer would cost now? We can't ever dream to be not responsible to a certain degree, after all we broke the English transfer record a few times.. and ended up winning the league helped by it.. But we will forever have the history and pride in the fact we are the last standing towns in a league of cities.. BTW MAJI I concede defeat on your thread regarding UK clubs investments on overseas players.. your argument holds allot of weight from angles I had not considered.. Its just a shame that investing in players from the UK is a VERY costly business even if they are not English.
Cally Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Bascombe is a bit hit and miss thse days but still quite reliable. Could have used a less annoying picture of Pennant, mind.
Hughesy Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Our old favourite story: ROVERS' £6M FOR PENNANT That article says it all "Meanwhile, Blackburn midfielder David Dunn is being handed a new deal to ward off Middlesbrough’s interest" YEAH OK! Like we would need to, he is a blackburn boy through and through, not some greedy cockney
roverfanuk Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 What Nicko talked about with regard to Man City: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/foot...rticle16967.ece
Mozzer Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 we do need a right winger-someone with pace-bringing in pennant would be a good move..
RevidgeBlue Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I'd much prefer SWP and think Lennon would be preferable but I'd still welcome the signing of Pennant to fill Bentley's shoes. I was tearing my hair out after just 45 minutes of Bert's headless chicken routine on the right wing today. Uncanny, but straight back to exactly the same as he was in his first three seasons with us! Someone please tell Ince he's been generally brilliant at RB for the last two seasons, and let him and Simpson fight it out for that position. Leaving Ooijer as cover at CB.
Grabbi Graeme Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I watched the game from the press box and went into the press conference after, Ince said that he was disapointed about conceading the goal 2 mins after we had took the lead, also said Dunn had been suffering with a strain this week and had been nursed. He was asked about Santa and Ince said he was happy to put all the speculation to bed, then one bright journo asked if Santa had said he was happy at the club, to which Ince replied well if he wasn't he wouldn't have just signed a 4 year deal, where do they get these people from.
philipl Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Hmm, DIC want total control. Thaksin wants control. 2 into 1 don't go so this isn't a deal yet. I bet there is panic at the Royal Bank of Scotland and Liverpool City Council reading about DIC abandoning their Liverpool ambitions.
Rover9 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 He was asked about Santa and Ince said he was happy to put all the speculation to bed, then one bright journo asked if Santa had said he was happy at the club, to which Ince replied well if he wasn't he wouldn't have just signed a 4 year deal, where do they get these people from. Yeah on MOTD they interviewed Roque after the game about signing the new contract and the reporter asked Roque WHY did he sign it (implying he was wrong to do so), Roque gave him a bit of a funny look and repeated that he was happy and wants to help Rovers meet their ambitions.
Nelsta Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Yeah on MOTD they interviewed Roque after the game about signing the new contract and the reporter asked Roque WHY did he sign it (implying he was wrong to do so), Roque gave him a bit of a funny look and repeated that he was happy and wants to help Rovers meet their ambitions. Why cant the media realise Roque's happy and enjoying his football. Why cant they just praise him for showing some loyalty?
ScottishRover Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Roque was saying how he loves it at Rovers and how he has made some great friends here. He said the fans are great and the manager very ambitious. It was great to watch and it all looked genuine what he was saying. For me, that was the best piece of business we have done this summer. Now just to find a replacement for Bentley (who looked vry good for spurs yesterday). Joaquin would be great but i just dont see it happening, SWP would be awesome. I have a feeling we are going to end up Pennant though which i dont want to happen. Any news Nicko, will we actualy buy a replacement for Bentley this window?
Nelsta Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 What Pennant lacks in Technical ability he makes up for in pace.If we get pennant we'd have 2 different attacks. We'd have the technical approach with pedersen down one side, and shear pace down the other which would really unsettle defenders. I think we could do well with Pennant.
