Tut, Tut. brave statement.

It isn't really. This has been going on for months now. I think some people just like getting Nicko to talk to them, or sometimes I think people post something hoping it might be true.

I don't believe that Rovers would have an interest...wrong wing. West Ham would have taken him in a swap for Ferdinand...and they have got TWO left wingers already.

SWP is on more money than any player at Rovers right now...around the £60,000-a-week mark.

Chelsea also want lots of money for him...around £8-9 million.

I don't see that one happening - to Rovers anyway.

Unless it's a loan, of course.

For those figures I agree with you, a loan would look like the only option. Worth enquiring about.

Nicko, Andrews to sign today/tomorrow? Surely it must be close..... why has it taken so long?

Also, is it a case of Ince not getting other targets in, hence going for Andrews. Would link in with JWs comments when he said they discussed Andrews after Ince was initially appointed, but then said unlikely we would sign him.

well thats about what we recieved for bentley (8-9m) once arsenal got their cut and 60 grand week , i bet, wasnt much more than bentley was offered to stay , i would love to see ince push for this, i think if SWP is available he is the best option out there for r/mid anybody else is inferior

we did offer bentley a reported 50grand pw though and he was around the same fee (minus l'arsenals payments) so not a bad swap at all!

We reportedly offered Bellamy 60k pw to stay as well.

I wouldn't object to pushing the boat out for SWP, very exciting player, the only thing that puts me off him a bit is I've just checked and he's 27 in October.

On that basis he sems to have been a "nearly man" for a very long time - thought he was only 24 or 25.

Would still represent far less of a risk than someone like Joaquin though.

bloody hell, thought he was younger as well, pretty sure he'd recover it playing week in week out. The type of player everyone loves to watch as well.

I think SWP would be a great signing.

Proven PL player, has lots of pace and would benefit from playing every week. I know it would be expensive but you know what you are getting to a degree.

We know Everton apparently would like him, but would be surprised if other clubs did not register interest. Namely, Villa and Man City.

I know it's not Rovers-related but this explains the Everton-Riera hold-up.

Espanyol sporting director Paco Herrera explained a deal for Riera had yet to be completed because the player was more interested in joining the club which had tabled the lowest bid, believed to be Liverpool.

"There is a team which is offering what we have asked and another one which isn't, but the player is interested in the one which is offering the least," he revealed. We will not lower our asking price."

Oh dear.

I cant believe there isnt anything concrete happening on our front.

We desperately need a right winger and possibly a quality central midfielder in the defensive mould I would say. If we get the right winger, Id even take the step in saying that we may find Emerton doing a better job in there than some of our other current options (in central midfield with Dunn).

If we could get SWP for 8-9 million, it would be a freaking bargain?!

Also, im sure we could offer SWP a decent wage if we compramised on a few signings not happening. <<looks gleefully in the direction of a certain Keith Andrews and Robbie Fowler>>

I keep reading these posts. IMO, we need a good creative central midfielder.

Dunn,

Moko,

Tugay,

Reid,

Vogel,

Bert.

That's a pretty miserable midfield for a Prem club, nor is there much creativity there.

I think the overriding point is Den that we wouldn't be able to give any creative player the freedom needed because we don't have anyone adequate to play the defensive role. Mokoena will give one good game in four if we're lucky, and he's the only one even remotely qualified to do it.

Dunn has shown that, if he can stay injury free, he's approaching some good form, and if we could get a proper defensive player alongside him we can afford to give him more freedom.

A defensive player is a must for me, otherwise the rest of our midfield well be restricted to help out whoever we use as a makeshift in that role.

I agree mate, I personally think we've been crying out for a good creative midfielder for quite a while now

Agreed we need a creative midfielder if nothing else to replace what DB offered us. why is everyone down on or overlooking Johann Vogel? he is a class act at defensive mid and we havent seen the best of him yet IMO

I see Rovers were at the Bordeaux v Nantes game................David Bellion is an INTERESTING target.......I am sure Ince has asked Fergie regarding him............The guy looks totally different from the player that was here during the United/Sunderland days...........he would be ideal for the right wing......

is there anything happening at rovers at the moment? any possible moves? i'm getting sick of waiting for anything to happen.

That is called lack of patience - I suggest you don't take up fishing!!!!!!!

There is still a week to go before the transfer window closes. There is not a lot of transfer activity as a whole if you notice. Spurs / Sunderland have been a bit busy, but most of everything else is speculation at the moment. - tentative enquires here and there. But hardly any transfers have actually gone through considering there is ONLY a week to go. Anyway today is a bank holiday so hardly anything will happen today.
