nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Pennant on his way to Stoke today. In the same way that Carson was on his way to Stoke...and decided to go elsewhere. That one is not dead yet.
A cup of beans Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 i've heard grella is expected at rovers for talks and medical today. could the axe's days finally be numbered ?
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 i've heard grella is expected at rovers for talks and medical today. could the axe's days finally be numbered ? Grella in...Andrews announced at same time...things starting to make sense.
T4E Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 If Grella is the good news that Rovers have been waiting to hide Andrews behind, then God help us all.
modes98 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Surely we watched Ireland on Saturday as an option for our centre mid. Nope we didn't watch him Saturday, as he played on Sunday. Decent little CM IMO, not sure how much would be too much though. Would Hughes be willing to sell his better players to Rovers, considering that we wouldn't do business with him for RSC? I don't think Hughes would be that worried. If he is willing to sell him then he will set his price and whoever comes in comes in, beggars can't be choosers. The RSC bid was a phantom bid anyway, designed to ease the fans nerves about their dire financial state.
joey_big_nose Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I wonder if we will go for all of Pennant, Ireland and Grella?.... Then maybe ditch Andrews (hence the hold up while we see how things unfold elsewhere) and look to unload the Axe and Reid? Pretty busy but I suppose possible.
joey_big_nose Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Well I am not really sure how we can do much better than that. Well maybe I would rather someone like Appiah to Grella but those are three decent players who have ability if used correctly. There isn't anyone out there in our price bracket who is totally proven. Joaquin is a cut above in pedigree but then he has been rubbish for a year and a half... You can go out and buy megastars like Spurs and Newcastle but they often cause more problems than they create solutions.
den Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Would Hughes be willing to sell his better players to Rovers, No he wouldn't, - that's why he's probably happy to let us have Ireland. Oh I'm getting depressed again.
kieran84 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The Milner thing will be resolved tonight. If he plays, he's cup-tied, therefore less likely to leave. That doesn`t really resolve anything,Pompey signed defoe after he was cup tied and won the fa cup.I doubt any potential buyers will be put off because milner is cup tied for the carling cup for one season. The league, europe and the fa cup are what most clubs care about.

Remember: Form is temporary, class is permanent.
joey_big_nose Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 People were saying similar things about Roque. Remember: Form is temporary, class is permanent. I too would take Joaquin over Pennant. But then there are financial considerations and the fact joaquin might simply not want to come.

Sparky Marky Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 QUOTE (J*B @ Aug 26 2008, 00:54 ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd be happy to spend 8m on Ireland, he's a good quality CM player. Never heard as much clap trap in my life... We should go for Pennant. We have enough central midfielders.......I want us to have a pacy threat down the right, something we've been lacking for a while.... While we're at it, Bellamy would be a nice gamble.
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko. King Carlos, for the first or last goal, against Grimsby what odds?
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko. King Carlos, for the first or last goal, against Grimsby what odds? If he plays I will back FIRST and LAST scorer. It would be sensible to give him a game in this one. Hope so.
Craigman Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Official text from Rovers says he will start tomorrow night.
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Official text from Rovers says he will start tomorrow night. Hope he draws a crowd.
roverfanuk Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 If we brought Grella, Ireland and Pennant, i think it would spell the end for Mokoena and Vogel. I wouldnt mind if we brought all 3 in, but considering it looks likely that we could bring in Keith Andrews, i think it would leave CM looking rather crowded?
The Gull Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hope he draws a crowd. No good him drawing a crowd Alan, we need real paying people through the gates for games like this not a repeat of the the silly picture Arsenal put up when they re built the North Stand at Highbury! In all seriousness I would guess at 11k max against Grimsby. I wouldn't be surprised if Ince tries to get Andrews signed in time to give him a game as well, the fact the Carlos is making his debut may be the smoke screen we were waiting for. Fowler may fall in to that category as well if we are to sign him, if he is announced to play on Wednesday then I do not think he will be signing.
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hope he draws a crowd. Well it's drawn one more, to make the long trip west from Accy

nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The young French kid Baysse...over on trial a couple of weeks back...has signed for Sedan instead.
imy9 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko- have you heard anything about Grella signing today? I think £4 million is steep for a 29 year old midfield player but he does have a decent CV. The same article below states that: "Palermo are expecting to land $27 million for Bresciano" How are Rangers going to afford that?
Rover down South Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Looks like Grella is due to sign today. http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...5006373,00.html
