modes98 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 AL-HABSI - Told you yesterday, Rovers asked and Bolton said no. Are they willing to let him leave on a free instead then? The Sky article says he has no intention of signing a new deal and it's up at the end of the season. We can just pre-contract him in January.

The Sky article says he has no intention of signing a new deal and it's up at the end of the season. We can just pre-contract him in January. Rovers want a keeper now. Bolton want to keep Al-Habsi. It's not going to get sorted just now.
LeChuck Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 We can just pre-contract him in January. We can't, clubs in the same country aren't allowed to do that. At least, not in this country, not sure if it's the same all over Europe. I'm very worried now that, with less than a week to go, the nearest we seem to be to a deal is getting in a reserve goalkeeper.
roverfanuk Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Rovers want a keeper now. Bolton want to keep Al-Habsi. It's not going to get sorted just now. Nicko, sorry has to be asked. Paul Ince has said he wants 2 or 3 more players to come in before the window closes. Does that mean 1 goalkeeper + Andrews + Grella, this doesnt even take Fowler into account or even a right midfielder. Could you provide some insight, as its all getting very confusing. Do you think we will bring in more then 2 or 3 players...?
gazsimm Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hope we do sign Al Habsi, a better keeper than Robinson. Looks to me like Ince doesn't really know what we need and if we don't sign a good replacement for Bentley he is going to make it even harder for himself. Fingers crossed he signs somebody good enough... How can you say Al Habsi is a better keeper then Robinson, Al Habsi has only played half of dozen games at Bolton. Robinson is a good keeper and i have no doubt about him coming good as the season progresses. Have faith in Mr Ince will you please Bish.
modes98 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Rovers want a keeper now. Bolton want to keep Al-Habsi. It's not going to get sorted just now. I don't see the need for urgency with Robinson, Brown, Fielding, and about 3 other youth keepers. We can't, clubs in the same country aren't allowed to do that. At least, not in this country, not sure if it's the same all over Europe. Really? I always thought that any player in the final 6 months of a contract could go into talks and sign a pre-contract with a club, regardless of nation. I trust you on it, just seems a bit strange to stop player movement based on nation.

I trust you on it, just seems a bit strange to stop player movement based on nation. I can't remember the reason why, I think it might be something to do with having a conflict of interest if they know they're moving to another club in the same country. I think we'd have to wait until the final month of his contract before we could negotiate a deal.

nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 We can't, clubs in the same country aren't allowed to do that. At least, not in this country, not sure if it's the same all over Europe. It's a quirky one, but you can't talk to someone from the same association before their contract is up. Grella...Andrews...maybe a right winger...probably Fowler...and a reserve goalkeeper. I make that five.
AndyCV Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 It's a quirky one, but you can't talk to someone from the same association before their contract is up. I thought players in the final 6 months of their contract were free to talk to whomever they wanted, even if the club was in the same association? Oh well.... Please get back to the transfer gossip!!!
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 We need one big player to come in. Fowler, Andrews etc they are not! We need a Ireland or a Joaquín to come in! Ala Santa Cruz, Benni and Bellamy in past seasons... Without a doubt, RM is the area we need to improve on... How can you state 'big player', then put Ireland and Joaquin in the same bracket
modes98 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 I can't remember the reason why, I think it might be something to do with having a conflict of interest if they know they're moving to another club in the same country. I think we'd have to wait until the final month of his contract before we could negotiate a deal. My mate confirmed it and he's a football guru. Oh well I'm sure we could get a word to Peter Harrison to get him to hold out for us! Just seems stupid to buy a keeper that you don't really want(when you have an ok reserve) instead of waiting a year for a free one you do.
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Going off the radar for a few hours. An 11 o'clocker probably. There will be a bit of news on the Israeli keeper and Pinto later. Might be other stuff, but that will depend on the next few hours.
gazsimm Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko any news on Dunny's injury will he be fit for saturday, i have heard it is touch and go. I hope he is back for the west ham game beause Dunn has been our best player in the last two games. We missed him badly in the 2nd half on saturday.
DingleBaiter Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Not sure why some people seem so depressed by Grella. As Ffan says he offers a big improvement on the Axe. As long as the fee is reasonable it seems like decent business to me. Isn't Grella just a ginger Lucas Neill?
modes98 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Can people stop asking for James Milner updates every hour or 2, once is enough. If Nicko has news I'm sure he will pick up the last person to ask or just post it himself. This is a Blackburn Rovers forum and this topic should be mainly Rovers based.
sparkspakespoke Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Isn't Grella just a ginger Lucas Neill? Is he? Neill was a decent player for us attitude excepted. My point is that he plays the same position as the Axa and is an improvement, and as long as we are bringing in better than we have its a good thing.
speeeeeeedie Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Just played catch up on the last few days and it looks like Den and JAL are still firmly anti-Ince. Ireland could be a good buy.
Fife Rover Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 He has only made 16 appearances for them, so nobody's really had a good enough look at him. From the goals i saw him let in he looked a bit lightweight and didn't have the ability to reach the shots in the corners, but admittedly I have only seen him in a couple of games. He has got along way to go before you can say he should be challenging Robinson for the number 1 shirt. You are quite right in saying he has a long way to go; in fact a very long way to go. However he is getting there, rolling along nicely.

My point is that he plays the same position as the Axa and is an improvement, and as long as we are bringing in better than we have its a good thing. Sorry, wasn't meaning positionally, certainly a centre/def midfielder, but I meant more in terms of his erm, application. Takes no prisoners I believe. Whether he's got the trademark 'sorry I didn't mean to bump into you/leg you up/push you over/stand in your way/whatcha mean mate, penalty? red card? strewth!!' Lucas moves remains to be seen Hey, I thought Lucas's attitude was spot on! Least you knew where you stood with him - somewhere in the Riverside.
den Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Just played catch up on the last few days and it looks like Den and JAL are still firmly anti-Ince. Ireland could be a good buy. If the team does the job on the park, he'll get my support - end of. Early days yet, but the squad at this moment in time, looks down on quality. Can anyone argue with that? Incidentally, what comments have I made that make me anti-Ince?
roverfanuk Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 How can you state 'big player', then put Ireland and Joaquin in the same bracket Big player in what they could do for our club, not a big player in the eyes of the media... Their is no denying how good Ireland could be for us, and that is why i held him in the same category as Joaquin...
Veevs Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Sorry, wasn't meaning positionally, certainly a centre/def midfielder, but I meant more in terms of his erm, application. I thought we might of gone for Inler who is similar in those respects.. but a little more expensive, can attack a little and slightly younger
Silencio Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 How can you say Al Habsi is a better keeper then Robinson, Al Habsi has only played half of dozen games at Bolton. Robinson is a good keeper and i have no doubt about him coming good as the season progresses. Have faith in Mr Ince will you please Bish. I see your point but having seen Paul Robinson play lots of games and make lots of basic mistakes I can safely say he isn't a particularly good keeper. He is flawed. He might be do ok but I'm expecting quite a few goals to be down to his lack of ability. Al Habsi is younger and looks a good talent but it could be a flash in the pan. I don't have a great deal of faith in Ince, as you know but I am willing to give him games and the Everton performance was good. He seems to not know what he is doing in the transfer market but if he pulls off two or three good signings and proves me wrong this week I'll be quite happy and will hope those players do well for him.
