DingleBaiter Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Really? I thought he was left footed for some reason. But I agree, he is a decent player. Complete nutter, but good player. Never trust a man with a bad syrup & pink wheel trims I say.

imy9 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko- you said Grella was expensive, any idea of the fee?
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko, italian site Calciomercato report that Birmingam made a bif for Bolton's Al-Habsi. Any truth in this? http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=24&a=93128 Bolton won't let him go.
Veevs Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The next Joey Barton? lol.. no he ain't a crook.. he is just err bonkers.. http://www.faniq.com/blog/Manchester-Citys...-Ever-Blog-6996 Insane hair cuts.. dieing or as the case is not dieing grandmothers.. Superman pants celebration.. Boy is off his rocker but should provide us with a certain level of entertainment if we sign him
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko- you said Grella was expensive, any idea of the fee? Around £4 million, possibly in installments.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Around £4 million, possibly in installments. £4m seems a bit steep to me - was hoping for around £2.5 - 3m. However, in comparison to some of this seasons silly prices not too bad.
nicko Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko do you have any contacts within in BRFC? Tell them to go and sign James Milner!!! Milner is a very under-rated player...but not under-rated by Newcastle who want £9 million. Rovers just won't pay that.
Veevs Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Really? I thought he was left footed for some reason. But I agree, he is a decent player. Complete nutter, but good player. I am pretty sure he is left footed.. not a traditional right sided player, tends to cut into the middle allot.
Baggio Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Milner is a very under-rated player...but not under-rated by Newcastle who want £9 million. Rovers just won't pay that. Most Newcastle fans think he's overrated because of performances like that against Championship clubs or Slovenia under 21's. Week in week out against Premiership opposition he's a very average performer.
BRFC1995 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Grella going by reports is a hardman with bags of running and a good range of passing thrown in, plus he's in the 6ft bracket which helps as annan and Dunn could have been a pathetically small CM pairing. 28 years old and proven in a top league so i can accept £4m as reasonable business. Looking forward to seeing the fella play now........seems to have everything savage had with the ability to play football thrown in want to see a top striker sign now, preferably Olic...........why has this rumour gone quiet as it would realistically be the most exciting signing ince could make.(ps i don't see jouquin as realistic)

As for Grella.. I dont watch the italian league but he destroyed the star studded Juve team on his debut and made england look awful when the Aus beat us 3-1.. so he cant be all that bad..
steverovers Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Grella is therefore better than all our current options in the holding midfield role. Ince must know a good midfielder when he sees one!

Problem is though surely weve now got too many strikers! Without any departures can see us just about done in the market.....maybe a last day Pennant signing to go! and a Andrews signing at 11.59.59 am when everyones gone to bed and stroke boys getting all flustered!
Valois Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Grella is therefore better than all our current options in the holding midfield role. Ince must know a good midfielder when he sees one! EXACTLY, as once qouted by some scouser on an advert for milk.
TugaysMarlboro Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I have to ask this. Nicko, is Joaquin one of those "several" possibilites mentioned, or is that dead in the water? - I'd think so now maybe with the Grella signing.
BRFC1995 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 do we have a ballpark figure for the fee's for pinto and olic, as regardless of how many strikers we already have i think we still need another. Its quality not quantity thats important. The more i think about it the service from pederson is no better than that from emerton so why are we so concentrated on RM when more quality on the left would serve us just as well. Does anyone have the faintest idea exactly where carlos is going to play, is he the RM answer?
MWGR2 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Nicko, Pennant where ever he goes, you have mentioned that there are problems with valuations. I'm pretty sure this would have been noticed before, but if not then maybe this is one of the problems. Arsenal, have add ons and a sell on clause, how unusual. Pennant signed for Liverpool on 26 July 2006, on a four year contract for a fee of £6.7 million, potentially rising to £8 million with add-ons. It is understood that Arsenal will receive around 25% of the fee. Just a blatant lie
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Just a blatant lie I will treat your comment with the contempt it deserves
AussieinUk Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I will treat your comment with the contempt it deserves 67, How can Pennant have a sell-on clause, when he had already signed for Liverpool from Birmingham? 1. Arsenal - 2. Birmingham - 3. Liverpool - 4. A.N Other Club The sell-on is activated from Birmingham to Liverpool.

Bentley Arse - Rovers - Spuds - Another. we have add ons in the deal with spuds, which could include future fees from another sale. Arsenal would be entitled to their share of that in the same way as it being say 40% of the profit at the time.

Lathund Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I would hope the Grella fee is no more than £2m. The guy moved from Parma to relative obscurity last summe on a free transfer, it would be hard pushed to justify a £3-4m outlay! Playing in the Serie A for 7-time winners Torino is obscurity indeed. They're no more obscure than Blackburn, Newcastle or West Ham.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Today's Rovers story, via the BBC: Stoke and Blackburn lead the contenders for Lens midfielder Kanga Akale. (Daily Mail) Wikipedia says he's a pacey winger/forward with 33 caps for the Ivory Coast, and is either currently or formerly on loan at Marseille. Anyone know if he's definitely right footed?
Silencio Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Elaborate please? What's your criteria, or is it your clear objective, unbiased opinion to justify why Ince doesn't know what he's doing? Because he's not panic buying? Because he's having a good scout around? Because he's taking time to cast around - bear in mind he was shopping in bargain basement over last 18 months. How would you judge 'good signings'? Surely this can't be decided in a week? So he signs a big money player that ends up a flop? He signs an 'uninspiring' player who proves committed & consistent and adds to the team/squad? I said it "seems" he doesn't know what he is doing, it's an impression I get because we don't seem to be near signing a replacement for Bentley when one should have been lined up and targeted a long time ago (everyone knew he was leaving). I have no problem with someone taking their time to make a signing but with next to no creativity in midfield now that DB has gone we don't have much time. We will struggle without a replacement. If he does sign a good one I will be more than happy. I think Grella is a decent signing and a definite improvement upon Mokoena and Reid (I think he is possibly worse that Moko nowadays). Villanueva might be good. Robinson is poor, based on the fact that it's pretty obvious. Re Ireland: He doesn't like it on the right so if we are going to sign him then lets put him in the centre with Grella AND sign a right winger. I think we would be significantly stronger in that area if we were to do that.
