nicko Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Must be very close to signing the LB then to name him. No, but to watch him a few days before the deadline would suggest a big interest...and his club will now deal.

JAL Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 No, but to watch him a few days before the deadline would suggest a big interest...and his club will now deal. Nicko is he quality or quantity.
67splitscreen Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 No, but to watch him a few days before the deadline would suggest a big interest...and his club will now deal. Interesting. As in. say they would not deal two weeks ago, when Warnock was wanted by others.
gazsimm Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I wish you could name the new # right winger, instead of naming a new left back which we don't ACTUALLY NEED tonight Nicko, i am getting a bit worried that Ince is not going to purchase a right winger and just count on Reid/Emo which will be quite frankly sucidal.
67splitscreen Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I get the feeling, that this late into the window, and time running out, it will be Pennant or no one for the RW slot. Even Pennant I think it will be the eleventh hour, that's if he changes his mind, about leaving Liverpool & the fee is agreeable.
rover6 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Unless this mystery left-back is top notch, it makes no sense to sign him. If we keep signing squaddies to back-up the squad, when will the likes of Olsson get a chance to stake a claim?
Bobby G Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Dont you reckon that youngsters if good enough would breakthrough? If we want to be a club that bloods youngsters its one thing, but if we want to be successful we go for the best that we can attain...
gazsimm Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Unless this mystery left-back is top notch, it makes no sense to sign him. If we keep signing squaddies to back-up the squad, when will the likes of Olsson get a chance to stake a claim? agree totally ok Ince wants to bring in some of his men. but we don't actually need a new left back and have other postions that need filling more as priority.
nicko Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 SWP is £9 million or so...and might not even want to leave...easy life, etc. PENNANT, by the way, is still rated at £5.5 million by Liverpool. Are they having a laugh?
Rover down South Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I've read Hull are interested in signing Thimothee Atouba (ex Spuds left back) on loan for a season & Hamburg are willing to do the deal. Is it him we are now after? As for Shaun Wright-Phillips, would be a quality signing in my opinion.
roverfanuk Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Interesting timing with regard to what Nicko is saying? I just been told were taking a look at Romanian left-back Răzvan Raţ? Any truth Nicko?
RevidgeBlue Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 PENNANT, by the way, is still rated at £5.5 million by Liverpool. Are they having a laugh? It'd be nice to get him for less but imo you can't blame Liverpool for thinking he's worth that when they see Bentley going for17m.
67splitscreen Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Unless this mystery left-back is top notch, it makes no sense to sign him. If we keep signing squaddies to back-up the squad, when will the likes of Olsson get a chance to stake a claim? Could it just not be that Ince, has accessed Olsson, and believes he is not ready, or will never be in his opinion. If that is the case, we do seem to lack cover at LB, unless you start playing players out of position, IE. Gamst which then has a knock on effect to the balance of the team. Maybe Ince feels we could be under the cosh again for Warnock come January.
Rover down South Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 It's not Atouba and it's not Roland Rat either. Thats p!?sed on my fireworks then!!
Rover95 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 If we could get Pennant for between 4-5m, then I think it would be a good deal. I've seen him play quite a bit for Liverpool and think he's a decent player who would do well in a team like ours. He'd get regular football which I think would see him improve as a player. IMO he'd be better value than SWP at 9m, who when I've seen him play tends to spend a lot of his time running without producing anything worthwhile
Mozzer Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 i do think a left back is needed for cover..incase warnock got an injury or was suspended i really wouldnt feel safe with olsson covering him-while he is a decent prospect someone wit experience is needed-thats why i wasnt against the idea of having koncheksy here..
LeChuck Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Unless this mystery left-back is top notch, it makes no sense to sign him. If we keep signing squaddies to back-up the squad, when will the likes of Olsson get a chance to stake a claim? I'm thinking completely opposition...if the left-back is top notch then that makes no sense as we already have one of those. I'd rather a cheap and cheerful purchase who will be happy to sit on the bench and put in the odd decent appearance when required to play. I kind of agree with the final point, but maybe we can move Olsson out on loan if we get some experienced backup. PENNANT, by the way, is still rated at £5.5 million by Liverpool. Are they having a laugh? I'd be very happy with him for that price, I don't think he's any worse than Wright-Phillips or Lennon and better than Milner. Liverpool paid £6.7 million for him and not many thought he was overpriced then. He's struggled to get in to Rafa's wingless-wonders side, but when he has played he's generally been impressive (Liverpool's MoM in the Champion's League final for example). I'll be gutted if we don't sign a winger. In Grella we now have the seemingly perfect water-carrier player...he just needs someone to carry the water to.
67splitscreen Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 What's Bresciano's best position? Some say Right side. Get to your point.
T4E Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Well since we want one of them, he's supposed to be good, he's available, and he's Grella-ella-ella's mate, surely it'd make sense to have a look at him?
Sandiway Blue Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Tbh i reckon Ince has got wind of Warnock`s (alledged) flirting at Newcastle and maybe wants to get a left-back in who might be decent enough to replace him.As much as i think Warnock is the best left-back we have had since Graeme Le Saux,he is a bit too gung-ho when going forward.Gamst got a bit of a slating against Hull, but he did a hell of a lot of tracking back because Warnock was stranded further up the pitch. I think if Ince got a left-back who was a bit more reserved going forward, then it would let Gamst concentrate more on his attacking game rather than having to help Warnock out.
67splitscreen Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Well since we want one of them, he's supposed to be good, he's available, and he's Grella-ella-ella's mate, surely it'd make sense to have a look at him? was he not linked with Rangers the other day for some silly money (7mill)ish. Ouch!! Setanta say 4mill
T4E Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I think the quote was $27m AUS, which is quite clearly balls.
