sijoco Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I was just wondering what members thoughts were on the whole Iran/USA/Israel "your dad's bigger than my dad" thing. Without looking at western bias media the whole thing takes a different picture. On the one side you have both Presidential candidates that look like they care more for Israel than their own country Obama / McCain. Iran has said the uranium enrichment has nothing to do with nuclear weapons but even the most western media (sorry propaganda) could argue this is not the case and be believed. On the other hand those not in the NPT (Israel inc) don't have to admit what nuclear weapons they do or don't have. Despite the fact Israel has nuclear weapons l suppose the fact l'm getting at is why shouldn't a country that has followed UN guidelines and entered the NPT be threatened by a country that wishes to ignore 99% of the world's countries (in the NPT) and not have the ability to defend itself. After all Iran has never attacked another country and has no links to terrorists apart from the (terrorist/freedom fighters) those Palestinians who try to protect thier homeland. So the question is, why should Israel have nuclear weapons and not have to declare them yet Iran cannot (despite being a member of the NPT) develop them as a purely defensive option? Other members not in the NPT are Pakistan, North Korea and India, has someone something to hide?

They also supply weapons to Moqtada al-Sadr and his Medhi Army aswell as letting him stay there as a safe haven.
Flopsy Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 they ahve links to and have supported a number of terrorist cells and are actively supporting some of the insurgents in Iraq. Also, ever noticed that whenever the spot light comes onto Iran for its nuclear programe, some incident happens which diverts attention awy from them again. The war in Lebanon last year, the kidnapping of our sailors etc etc etc. Still, as long as this doesnt turn into the normal islamophobic bashing its a perfectly reasonable topic.
roversmum Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Which country was it that said it wanted to wipe Israel off the map?
thenodrog Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Still, as long as this doesnt turn into the normal islamophobic bashing its a perfectly reasonable topic. Quite right Flopsy and about time too. High time to stop bashing those concerned about the global threat of islam fundamentalists and start bashing the islamists instead. Nice to see you've come around to being able to see the wood through the trees.
Flopsy Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 damn you and your grammar I'll rephrase - turn it into islam bashing and we'll close it.
Billy Castell Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 With regards to Israel, I believe that they and the Palestinians are too stupid and cowardly to say, "OK we've been blowing each other up for years andit has got us nowhere lets just put the toys away and talk like adults. One thing Israel can do is to remove all those settlements in Palestine and agree to help the palestinians rebuild their infrastructure and economy in return for good behaviour. In return the Palestinians should stamp out this cult of martyrdom and stop lobbing rockets over the wall and blowing themselves up. Of course, that would be too easy, and the problem is we have extremists on both sides who either believe that God is either telling them to occupy a certain part of the world regardless of who is currently there, or that same God is telling them to kill non-believers. Iran worries me as its influence in the region has increased and destabilised places like Lebanon, who were trying to become more secular and open. The screwed up 12th Century wannabes who rule Iran has damaged a country that could bemore open, friendly and tolerant. I had an Iranian friend who hated the ayatollahs, for imposing a strict Arab culture upon the more relaxed Persian way of life. He was also angry about how the standard of living has gone downhill since they took over.

But Flospy how can you discuss Iranian foreign policy & philosophy without discussing Islamism? Iranian fp is dictated by the teachings of the Quran.
