roversmum Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 You've just got to sit back smile and remember what goes around, comes around. Mark Bowen was happy enough to tell the world from the Man City interview room, how he and Hughes had been looking for another club for quite a while. They weren't bold enough to hand in their notice in the honourable way then look, - no, they continued to take the Ewood Park dosh while all the time looking elsewhere. They weren't prepared to deny speculation about the Newcastle job. Well, well. How soothing to watch the developments at Eastlands. Exactly, Den. The rot started after he had won the Manager of the Month in November, their disinterest in Rovers was obvious as the season progressed. Their attitude when they came back to Ewood with Manchester City was arrogant, too. Still, they have extremely healthy bank accounts and they will find another club - probably soon, but until then, karma, anyone?

sloth_frattelli Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Yeah, he was Billy-Big-Balls when he was sauntering out of Ewood towards the green pastures of Eastlands, and now he's had his pants pulled down in front of everyone. Where will he go now? Can't see Liverpool wanting a Utd connection, or Utd wanting a City connection. Forget about Arsenal, Chelsea, Villa, Spurs etc.
philipl Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 City have tied Hughes collecting the rest of his contract to the amount of time he is out of work. If I were him and his team, I'd pull an aggressive scouting plan together to use this time so they make a formidable case for being hired the next time a top half Prem vacancy happens.
jonv Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 at the end of hughes reign the football was @#/? and we were getting dyre results. if we beat b'ham on the last day we'd have been playing european football again and it hardly looked like we turned up. how the feck can you argue that change wasn't coming. quit living in the past old man

Iceman Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 we'd a goalkeeper in the nets who had already agreed to join villa ,and guess who got into europe instead of us Fulham and Everton?
jonv Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 we'd a goalkeeper in the nets who had already agreed to join villa ,and guess who got into europe instead of us friedal probably saved us 9 points that season alone
sweet Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 If celtics bad form continues, I could see the welsh brigade ending up there. Would definitely be a good way of building up his reputation again.
Mattyblue Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 we'd a goalkeeper in the nets who had already agreed to join villa ,and guess who got into europe instead of us So your accusing one of our all time greats of throwing a match are you now wag?!?!?!
ROVERS Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 the blackburn curse........... few players, managers, ever left blackburn performing better then they had performed at blackburn. Hughes is the latest candidate to a long list of people. however do feel he had done a great job at city, and the way he was treated is a total disgrace......... manchester city management is crap. wish him all the best !!
cletus Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Not to mention an alleged £5m pay off with a hush hush clause. how do you know this if it`s so hush hush??
cletus Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Does anybody think he`d consider a club like Bolton? ....or is he too big for them? I`m being serious, honest If you look at the situation, 1...Bolton are struggling (like Rovers were when he signed for us) 2...The locals loathe their current manager & would welcome him with open arms. 3...They are still premier league (for now) 4...He`d have his 'control' back (no stupid arabs demanding the world) 5...They are close to where he lives (i think?) lol 6...Nearly all the 'glamour' prem clubs are relatively happy with their current boss (except Liverpool, but there`s no way that`ll happen) What do people think?
S15 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I doubt it as he's not going to broaden his CV at Bolton unless he were to guide them to the Champions League. I think a foreign job is more likely.
thenodrog Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 City have tied Hughes collecting the rest of his contract to the amount of time he is out of work. Billy big times eh? Like all arabs.... all fur coat and no knickers. I'd have thought that paying him off in niggardly bits and pieces would be somewhat demeaning to them. Still if the cap fits.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Amazing stat i just came across whilst i was reading an article about Mancini's appointment: Mancini is City's 17th manager in 20 years...

I think it was Thaskin that appointed Hughes and gave him his contract not the current owners..
T4E Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Amazing stat i just came across whilst i was reading an article about Mancini's appointment: Mancini is City's 17th manager in 20 years... Bloody hell. In comparison their city rivals have had 19 in their entire history.
den Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I don't know if anyone else saw the press conference today, but my what a pantomime. The best thing those Arabs could do at the moment is to pot Gary Cooke, he's doing them untold harm. All mouth and no understanding of how to forward the club in the media. Thinking about it though, maybe he's better left alone
cn174 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Top four this year and Premier League title next year? Yea, whatever!
John Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I don't know if anyone else saw the press conference today, but my what a pantomime. It was a complete joke. Garry Cook is a complete t**l.
Alan75 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Roberto Mancini - My target is to arrive in the top four - but it's my objective, my target. I think it's possible," "Next year we want to win the Premier League." oh yes.
den Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 This was the reason Cooke gave for sacking Hughes:- "At the end of last season, we set a target of sixth place finish, That was well documented, and it has created conjecture. But following the accelerated acquisition strategy and the activity of the club in the summer transfer window, the new target, agreed with the staff was 70 points. The trajectory of recent results was below this requirement. The Board felt there was no evidence this situation would fundamentally change." Seems like City hire and fire on a mathematical formula, combined with graphs and forecasts. City have got 29 points so far, from 17 games. Do the sums.
den Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 64 points? Yeah, but you need to do the forecasts as well. 2 wins more in the next half of the season and they're there. Seriously, what a shambles from Cooke. They have every right to sack who they want, when they want - but to try to tell the fans it's because it doesn't look like they will get 70 points this season, is about as patronising as it gets. They need a john Williams. This one:
Anti Euro Smiths Fan Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 What a way to run a football club. Roberto Mancini has admitted today in his press conference that he first spoke to the Arabs weeks ago. It's been reported that Mancini agreed to take the job back on the 2nd of December, the night Man City beat Arsenal's kids in the Carling Cup to reach their first cup semi-final since 1981. If Man City win their next two games - winnable matches at home to Stoke and away to Wolves - they will have 35 points from 19 games, which is exactly the target for the halfway point of the season that the ridiculous oaf Garry Cook claimed that City needed to meet. The whole thing is a complete shambles. Mr Cook is an arrogant clown who thinks that the public are fools. Apparently Mancini has recently been staying at Cook's house and the way that Mancini brazenly turned up at Eastlands for the game against Sunderland on Saturday summed up the shabby and unseemly way that Man City go about their business. I have nothing but disgust for the way that Man City are being run at the top level. It's reported in one of the tabloids today that despite the mega-rich Arabs being worth billions, Mark Hughes actually had to lend Man City £250,000 of his own money to sign Craig Bellamy this January. The deal to sign Bellamy from West Ham nearly collapsed because City were £250,000 short and apparently Hughes had to dip his hand in his pocket for the deal to go through.
