Just back from Ewood.

King Carlos, :D :D Great touch, silky skills, good vision, not much pace, and very light weight. Defo no midfield role.

He did seem to take a couple of elbows in the face, which he just brushed off.

Think he will need a few more weeks to get in the swing of things.

Language also seemed a problem Just before the restart Cruz seemed to be translating instructions to him from Gamst.

All in all quite promising.

Back from the game. Was an easy stroll once they got out of first gear shortly after the Grimsby goal with plenty of decent performances :

Keith Tracey looked good, comfortable on the ball and put in some excellent crosses the times he got forward. Given more games he could turn into a very useful squad player this season and a capable back up for Warnock.

Ryan Nelsen - Always in charge of the defence and constantly talking to the inexperienced full backs.

Carlos did well on debut - couldnt have been a more suited game for him though really and will be interesting to see how he does against decent opposition. None the less a good start.

Matt Derbyshire - Typical Derbyshire really : Play him up front and he will score goals. Cant beleive people are calling for him to be sold on the other thread!

Other points - You can see the 'Winterburn' effect coming through! The back 4 defended well and caught Grimsby offside on a number of occasions. Noticed this on Saturday too.

With Mokoena & Tugay playing together for much of the first half we had too big a gap between the centre midfield and Derbyshire. Something must have been said at half time because it wasnt as noticable in the second half and Mokoena managed to do something I'd never seen before - play the ball forward more than 10 yards! He had a decent game though to be fair.

Hopefully we can build on this. It will be interesting to see the selection on Saturday because it will be harsh to see Derbyshire dropped.

All in all a nice evening... :)

Had Villanueva to score first......

&

Forest to beat Sunderland in my accumulator (late goal ruined that)

I had Leicester to beat Fulham, Forest to beat Sunderland and Huddersfield to beat Sheff Utd at 65/1 ish and they were all winning until quite a bit into the second half

Very poor opponents tonight but Villanueva was class nevertheless. Derbyshire could have had 2 hat-tricks given better finishing. Should have been 8-1.

Brown. Had 1 save to make and somehow allowed a well struck free-kick over his head. 5/10

Simpson. Quiet debut.6/10

Treacy. Did well an in unfamiliar position. Overlapped well and often and hardly wasted a cross. 8/10

Nelsen. Easy night. 7/10

Zurab. Likewise. 7/10

Pedersen. Out-crossed by Treacy. 6/10

Emerton. Not enough quality balls in. Nice goal. 7/10

Tugay. Kept things ticking over. 7/10

Mokoena. Probably our second best on the night, maybe due to the wide-open spaces he had in midfield. 8/10

Villanueva. Intelligent running, good first touch, excellent shooting. Gets stuck in. Looks a bit like Damien Johnson only good. Sign him perm now. 9/10

Derbyshire. Profligate but good enough on the night. 7/10

Gallagher. 1 or 2 nice touches. 6/10

Judge. 1 good run. 6/10

Marshall. Hope he can progress. 6/10

The only thing with Villanueva is where he plays. He is a very attcking player, if he plays CM with Dunn or Reid we may suffer too much defensively. Can't see how he fits in with Roberts and Santa. I would be tempted to drop Pedersen until we can fit him in.

Possibility is 4-3-3
