We should forget signing any new players and spend what money we have bringing back Mark Bowen and Co.

I'm sure they could do wonders for Vince and Dunny.

They may have left under a bit of a cloud with Hughes but this time of the year is the time for forgiveness! :xmas:

That would be the Mark Bowen and co who spent the final six months of their tenure at Rovers 'looking for another club' ?

Such a shame. He looks a good little player when fit and actually on the field. Grella, N'Zonzi and Dunn would make a really good CM combination, but the former and latter just cannot stay fit for long enough.

Relying on a CM of Andrews and N'Zonzi will be very costly over Christmas.

I'd really prefer us to try something-----anything----rather than that. If we go that way we'e beaten before we start. Salgado, even Pedersen would be better alongside N'Zonzi than Liver Salts.

I've noticed Grella's name coming up a lot lately in the various topics whether it's discussing Sam's signings or our midfield problems, the forum seems pretty split on this guy, some forumers are referring to him as another crocked flop that doesn't improve the team a great deal while others seem to think of him of our best midfielder and that we are a much better team with him.

Personally I think a few members have over hyped him due to our current poor form and the fact that he's not played much at all this season, I think he's done all right for us but is too injury prone and inconsistent at times. He offers some stability to the midfield and certainly isn't scared to put a tackle in (Richards probably wouldn't have got past the half way line) but I'm not sure why some think he's almost a world beater.

Interesting to see the differing of opinions on just one player. Below are a few quotes from posters over the last few days showing some seem to think he's fantastic, others feels he's decent when fit while some are happy for him to bugger off! I think he's decent when fit, nothing more and nothing less. An improvement on the likes of Andrews but I don't think he'd be walking (Hobbling) into too many other premier league sides.

We've been crying out for a good centre midfielder for years - Grella's a decent one and we look a different team when he's fit.
Now £4m for Grella was bad business. I've no doubt he's talented but who did we get to carry out his medical???
If our best midfielder was fit (Grella) maybe we would have had a chance

I've never seen Meriem play, but all I can picture is another Grella

andrews, benni, roberts and grella to some greek crap and this window would be off to a fly'er.

I don't think anyone's suggested Grella is a 'world beater', Dirk. He's a good midfielder who gives some shape to our midfield and keeps the ball moving. As publicized, the problem is his awful injury record which continuously puts us on the back-foot. If it weren't for that, I reckon he'd be an unsung hero.

I did say 'almost' haha. Maybe that was a little over the top but some people seem to have a very high opinion of him, I just think although he's a decent player some people with our current problems are only remembering the good things. It would be nice to see him get a run of 6 or 7 games together to see how he goes.

I wonder what his most consecutive starts are? I'd be surprised if it was above 3.

Overall I think I'm just feeling it's a bit of a shame that we haven't really seen what Grella is capable of so far but feel some people are getting a little carried away if they see him as some kind of saviour to the midfield. I like him and think he definitely has the right attitude which is partly what were missing right now, I'm almost arguing with myself here as to what I think of him lol, no wonder it's tricky to know what to think of him!

While not a saviour, his impact on the team is huge. This is only because he is a competent player and he replaced an incompetent player. Of course the injection of competency would have a large effect on the team.

I don't think anyone can deny that a fit Grella would play every time over Andrews.

He's decent, but only looks better because he's being compared to players like Andrews (who is just crap) and N'Zonzi (who has potential but is still learning).

I do think if he'd been in the team more often this season we'd have picked up a few more points, but sadly his injury record is atrocious and he's soon to be 30...

A very average signing for a considerable amount of money. He has shown signs of becoming a valuable player for us but is far too injury-prone and never gets a decent run in the team to show what he can do.

N'Zonzi, for me, is growing in confidence and adapting well to the EPL. I think we need to move Grella on.

To be fair, in the current market an injury-free Grella probably would have been worth about 4M. Unfortunately his injuries have made that transfer fee seem like a bit of a mockery.

I also dont rate Grella and when fit he offers very little to the team. For me he is too slow , gets caught in possesion far to often and his passing is not the best. A very poor signing by Ince. We need to be moving him on in the summer and replacing him with somebody who can play more than 3 concecutive games although we will not recoup anywhere near the 4 million we paid for him.

We need to keep Grella at all costs, especially if fit. I know a lot of people on here don't really rate him, but with no offence intended, I believe those people are 100% wrong. Grella is a quality midfielder, who we would struggle to replace with someone better. He has not set the world alight while playing for us, but I would say that 80-90% of the games he's played for us he has stabilised us both in midfield and in defence very, very well. He is a strong link in the team and his presence turns us into a decent team. Whenever he's been in the lineup we have passed the ball along the ground a lot more than we do without him.
