Statler and Waldorf strike again...

Are you happy about a new deal being offered to Jason 'the clubfoot' Roberts? Such mediocrity is unacceptable in my eyes.

Before you mention it, I am aware that Hughes signed him. It was a rare mistake from the Welsh maestro.

What I win?

Excellent.

1st prize!!

I was just amazed at the BBC making such a mistake.

So you turn what was meant to be a comical response to a predictable post into me being happy that Jason Roberts is being offered a new contract which is something I haven't said in the slightest. My opinion on Jason Roberts is that he does a job for Rovers nobody else can do, that of the battering ram up front. I'm not pro or anti his new contract to be honest; I'm happy when he scores though which is something I think you wouldn't be. I'd like someone better but until Rovers have the funds...

You pair are like Statler and Waldorf. Predictable and mildly endearing in your grumpy old men kind of way. Nice to sit and laugh at occasionally. :D

I didn't know your stance on Roberts which is why I asked the question.

Laugh all you want, Ivan, but some people are concerned about the future of Blackburn Rovers.

And those of us prepared to give Ince a chance aren't? You may not say it but it's what you imply. I'm concerned about the future of the club too, but I don't know if it's in safe hands with Paul Ince. However, so far he has done nothing so wrong as to cast any real doubts on his ability to manage us well. There are one or two concerns but some may be to do with the players as much as to do with him and we are not privy to what goes on behind the scenes/in training or whatever. I want the best for Rovers; I just want to give Ince a chance to show he is that man.

I'm not even pro-Ince and I'm getting a little bored of it all. The Man Yoo defeat was disappointing, but it's one game on the back of two victories. It's hardly crisis point until we're sliding towards the bottom without a prayer.

We need to make allowances for Ince sometimes, because the guy is still wet behind the ears. This is his what, second year of competitive management? So unfortunately managing Blackburn is going to be a learning curve for him, and hopefully he will learn the right lessons to achieve success here.

Flipping the coin here but didnt RSC sign a new contract under Ince's banner? Emerton, too?

Burner, Enkleman, Jeffers... a few mistakes... ;)

Some of us are concerned about the future of Rovers. We're called supporters. We go to games, we sing and shout, we support our club and we are prepared to give a new manager a decent shout at the job before judging him.

You've obviously missed a number of my posts about that game. Especially the one where I said I was sat down in the bottom right of the Blackburn End with my wife instead of my normal season ticket seat.

Up to now i am quite happy with the way Paul Ince is handling himself at Ewood. He has had some very good results and some of the football has been very pleasing to watch. The only downside were the performances against Man U and Arsenal, but all in all i am quite happy with Ince.

This is an amusing thread, and shows the fickleness of football fans. As always, opinions come out stronger dependent on results. Then again, we all know the quote about opinons & holes.

The underlying fact is Ince has an abundance of detractors even before a ball was kicked, and it's akin to wish fulfillment to see him fail at the expense of our club IMO.

I really do feel some sections of 'supporters' WANT Ince to fail rather than succeed, is that really in the club's best interests?

Cripes, we've had some good, and some poor, results and performances so far - but isn't that to be expected in all fairness?

Especially as the Plan B most detractors seemingly resort to is Allardyce - who I admit to having the same level of antipathy towards as Ince's detractors have towards him. However, much to my dismay, if this had happened (or may still do) I'd like to think I'd ultimately support the club rather than any personal stance.

Ince was clearly appointed for long term benefit, rather than short-term gain. One look at the advancement of youth, and his good work already in that criteria shows why the club valued him so highly as a candidate - especially in line with our focus off-field, Academy-wise, and with the financial restraints we need to acknowledge.

It's simply not fair, reasonable or sensible to compare Ince like-for-like with Hughes (or what MH did in his time here) - if we'd sacked MH to bring PI ince, maybe so. However, it was always going to be more of a long shot/gamble in the long run, clearly with possibly having to take backwards steps in the interim.

That said, there ARE negatives and much to work on, it's far from 'all gravy'. Then again, how would it have been otherwise? Allardyce would have probably have raped the club, ingored the Academy and spent all the tuck-shop money, and made us even more unpopular than ever IMO. No matter how bad the naysayers may suggest we are at this stage in the game, I still think we'd have been far worse if we'd have brought in butcher-boy BFS.

:rover: maybe the problem is paul ince has replaced a successful manager, the majority off rovers fans were glad to see the back off souness,kidd/hodgson/harford were all sacked and most fans thought the replacement could do no worse.hughes is a big act to follow :brfc:

As Dinglebaiter says, this thread just goes to show how fickle we are! I have been dragged into the optimism after a good win & the doom when we are rumoured to be signing a has been.

What we should look at are the FACTS, we are 10th in the league & are playing more attractive football (barring the Utd game) than last year & we're still in the cups! yes we have made a couple of questionable signings but i am encouraged by the quality young players that are getting chances.

We have not lost RSC, we are not in the relegation zone, we are not facing administration! I would like to get some more excitement in the transfer market but all in all, are we in bad shape?

Who would have accepted our current position in July when Mark Hughes left OR dare i say, in June before he left?

Of course MH was a big act to follow - but equally, we didn't expose him to the tripe thats been aimed at Ince either.

We saw steady growth under MH and he's brought certain aspects to the club that will stand us in good stead for the future; players other clubs covet, and more holistic overview of operations, technological input, as well as on-field success.

Lets not forget the same criteria that led the board to select Hughes (boldy) at the time is the same seemingly applied to Ince.

There is also clearly prejudice towards Ince - not necc THE obvious one I hasten to add - as he does have a polarising character it seems.

At least he spends time with the Academy lads, home and away, which is something Hughes didn't do too much of. Sure this endears him to the board too, probably means less money to spend!

Eh? How can a simple opinion constitute a FACT?

Anyway it's complete rubbish. We did play well at Everton but the performance of the team in games v Hull, Fulham, Arsenal, MU have varied betwen awful and tedious.
