True and I agree.

But I think Ince is also quick to say "I am here to help you iron out your faults". Jason Roberts miss at Bolton was pointed out politiely as "unacceptable" and he was dropped without knocking his general game. Ince will be saying he's a good player (though I am sure he like us knows he isn't) and working on the training ground.

Ince is far more honest, down to earth in post match interviews than Hughes ever will be and it's refreshing. He doesn't slag players or pull up their failings for nothing and offer nothing but a one way ticket to somewhere else (Souness). I'll give Hughes some credit, he kept a disciplined squad by being a hard task master. But in the end, like Souey, players began to play with fear (and that's why he had to go). With Ince there isn't fear. Jason you missed a sitter, have a rest son!

There should always be a fear factor between players and the manager.

Like with Souness?

I dont think so! Yes they should fear loosing their place & that is what Ince is doing, there is no bull involved, if you perform as he expects you to he will call you the best player in the world but if you have not performed he will let you know what you have to work on to make him happy.

Communication is always key & I feel the players know where they stand now more so than over the last few years. If they dont know where they stand then there will be unrest within the squad

Do you think Jose mourinho creates a fear factor? everyone has their own technique & i like Inces approach!

you really are naive if that is what you think, look at Sounesses final season, Hodgsons second season. Both lost the dressing rooms by using the fear factor.

Go back to the 1960s & there might be room for your techniques!!

Im not saying that this is going to work but we will find out once Ince has his own players in & knows their personalities!

Yeah, I think that is showing through. Benni was told he wasn't fit enough and was given time to get himself back in shape. He has and with a smile on his face too and he looks like he might be returning to the player we saw two seasons ago. That's good management in my book.

totally agree,

he dident get much time on the pitch but Benni looked good,if he is the old benni we all loved, ince will have done something MH could not do.

next step get RSC and benni playing well togeather with carlos feeding them. would be a nice xmas present ince :xmas:

So no player at man Utd fears Ferguson's wrath??? Fear of losing there place in the team is a fear factor between player and manager, who picks the team? You are both at the same time discounting a fear factor and then saying there is one.

The buddy buddy approach does not work just look at McClaren, there should be a balance between the two. If you honestly believe there is no fear factor between Mourinho and his players then perhaps you should care to read the below article's

Mourinho Furious

Mourinho just like Clough

Look at all the top managers Ferguson, Clough, Mourinho, Capello, Sacchi et al, no fears them eh! Players have always said you must have a fear factor, its just the balance that has to be right, and the method tailored for the individual.

Benni played half an hour in one game, I don't think we should get too carried away.

i know but i can dream. :D

we dident sell benni during the summer when we could have for a lot of money. this is another point on which ince should be judge on, im sure benni will get some time on the pitch at villa, so we will see how he does.

It's natural to praise players, but to call them the best in the league at ANY time is just plain daft. In fact it shows a depressing naivety and probably explains why we're not getting any better. It also makes us a laughing stock AGAIN!

"Oh Stephen and Vince- you are the best players in the league- we can teach you nothing" (Actually the statement is probably true, just not in the way he intended!

You appear to be a little unhinged Jan.

Sad to see you drifting over to the lunatic fringe of the Anti-Ince 'Awkward Squad'.

You know, the usual fixated and monosyllabic suspects like JAL, Tugay4England, Frisky Jim etc...?

And why do you say Rovers are 'a laughing stock - again'?

Thats not really what he said in his interview.

He said that the 3 clubs of Spurs, Villa and City are the ones with plenty of cash and will be looking to push the top 3, he never said we cant, just that we dont have the resources to compete with them in the market, which is 100% true.

Come on guys, do you not think this is a little known management technique known as encouragement!?!?! ....The quality Ince & his management team were known for before they got here was they got the best out of the players, make them feel 10 foot tall (with samba its 15ft) & they will play with confidence. I like the fact Ince & his team are bigging up these players! if they were slating them it would be a different story!!

Some people on here just want to complain for the sake of it,. From the outside what i am seeing is a unified squad with growing confidence & this will only help results!!

Exactly.

Agreed

What the anti-Ince brigade know about football you could fit on the back of a postage stamp.

Message-board Gold!

If the players actually believe that tosh that they are the best then they are kidding themselves and to go with it we look like twits

Keep the best team best players rubbish for the Barcodes, Brum and Spurs

Ok, lets go out with the attitude of 'we are sh!te compared, so we will lose anyway, oh well a 3-0 loss will do, because we aint good enough'. I think not! Go out with that mentality and you lose!

Benni played half an hour in one game, I don't think we should get too carried away.

He also played better than he has at any time in the last 18 months for us.

Never said that, how about something a little more realistic though?

"Great game, if he keeps playing like this and improving he will be one of the best in the league for his position"

Or if they want to go over the top a bit, "I wouldn't swap him for anybody" or "His value to the team is impressing me everytime I watch him play"

Rovers have never been a boastful club even during the success, that is one of the reasons I followed them, quiet achievers.

Her name is Jan, dude...FFS...

:D

Well Jan's um.. box(?) is full of Souness

Even so, it is still defeatist and uninspiring.

And it is made worse by the fact he had a budget and for whatever reasons, valid or not, couldn't spend it. Everybody inside the club knows that so to pretend that he was hampered by having too small a budget reduces his own credibility.

To be continually whingeing now is hardly going to enable him to persuade players to come to the Rovers or to stay with the Rovers is it?

Besides which, you find at least one of Spurs, Villa and City beneath Rovers in most Premier League tables Rovers have been in since the League was formed (obviously that excludes the two seasons we were out of the League).

As to the fear debate, surely you want a manager whom the the players respect and are motivated by. Somebody the players are willing to literally put their bodies on the line for in order to achieve results.

Fear can be an element but mustn't be the major one as different people react very differently to fear- some sieze up and are paralysed by it; not exactly the best physical condition to be in for kicking a football accurately.

Everyone can see that Mark Hughes has that aura which instills respect. You wouldn't want to receive the hairdryer treatment from him so he was capable of instilling fear of failure into his players.

Ince is a very different kettle of fish. He doesn't come over with the same authority and sense of purpose.

So he has to use other methods of inspiring and driving his players. Presumably he has to appear expert (knowing the game and having been in all the situations the players are likely to encounter) and inspire loyalty from his charges. He was clearly capable of doing that with the lads at Macclesfield and MK Dons. However. now he has players who can turn round to him and say, "OK let's see your Champions League Winner's Medal then" and he hasn't got one, his strength of personality is much more important relative to his playing track record and achievements.

I don't know how you come to that conclusion from Matthias quotes. In the first half they were exceptional, I don't quite agree with the statement that they were the best in the league but they were very good. Your post is another example of someone jumping on a quote in a paper, twisting it and making a broad sweeping statement that knocks the management for no good reason other than to prove your own point of view. The old adage of if you haven't got anything good to say, don't say anything at all applies to you because you've never said anything worthwhile as far as I can remember.

What an interesting message board this will be if we all only write 'good things'. As for never said anything worthwhile thats a bit harsh, who are you to say i never say anything worthwhile, are you a stalker

I think i can see whereyou are coming from, Neekoy, with the fear factor. However, I dont think that it must be inherent in your management style. I am sure the players know they cannot cross Ince but a player that plays with confidence is always a better player. This is the way martin o'neill works.

This is the best thing that ince could have done when inheriting a decent squad, there is no need for hair dryer treatment until necassary but when you dont have money to spend you work with what you have got. this is getting the best out of players. Some players need the hairdryer treatment to perform, some need to be told they are great. Ince is in a better position than us to know the players personalities & what will & will not work with them

Some disappointing comments from the manager in the LT today effectively saying we can't be one of the two or three clubs pushing the top 4 because of the lack of financial clout.

Now what was that debate about good PR again?

Isn't it true though? What do you want him to do, lie? Hughes made the point enough times, moreso as he drew closer to jumping ship.

How many managers said the same thing about us when we were splashing Jack's money?

Question to the Ince/Mattheus detractors - if you had one bullet, and a get out of jail free card, who would you shoot? Ince or Matthias? Matthias seems to have been lined up for a lot of stick when his influence is minimal on the team really. IMO he's just another Tony Parkes, or McClair, or Harford (as coach); at least Ince is in the firing line being the man at the top.

Do think it's just a case of bitching for bitching's sake really on this one. The fella does say some daft things at times, but it's not really a biggie, surely? Think of him as Ince's Sarah Palin.....

Weren't you the one espousing the virtues of realism? So for Ince to say, quite rightly, that we can't compete in the market with the likes of City (mega rich owners), Villa (very rich owner) and Spurs is realistic. The only one I don't know about financially is Spurs but I'm sure someone will tell us. They obviously have money putting £140 million out for players this last transfer window. Can we compete with that?

So you hear Paul Ince winging? How about Mark Hughes saying the same thing over and over again? Was that winging too or is it only Ince that has that label attached?

Do you honestly know anything about Paul Ince? Do you think he doesn't command respect in the dressing room? You have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scenes and your sniping is getting very tiresome. Everything that is said in the media and even by Paul Ince himself you decide to use as a stick against him.

Are you Paul Ince's agent?

I am not sniping. If you read my contribution I DO NOT SAY he has not got the respect of the dressing room.

I do think that continually going on about lack of transfer funds (this has to be at least his third comment in three weeks on the subject) makes him look daft when for whatever reasons, he started with a budget of £10m to spend and turned in an £8m profit and (unlike the previous regime), did not manage to get the big player(s)- the right winger- they went for.

'Never write good things'? When did I say that? I'm perfectly happy to see genuine criticism of a bad decision or things of that nature but your silly comments that twist and contort something in the press to bash the management of the club is nothing of that. I've read an awful lot of your comments on here and not one has any genuine value. Your comment asking if I am a stalker just about sums your attitude up.

Neither did I say you said that but you are sniping as usual.

Hughes went on about lack of funds a hell of a lot, did you make comments about that as well? So the club couldn't manage to land a right winger? That's Ince's fault again is it? Have you learnt nothing? The club tried to do a deal and ultimately failed. I don't see anywhere that it is therefore Ince's fault but you obviously do.
