T4E Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 He's on TV a lot - I'd like to see him give Rovers a mention from time to time. Although would you want to be publicly known as the defensive coach for a team with the second worse goal difference in the league? Maybe just collecting the pay cheque and keeping shtum is the best way.

Amo Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I've seen him in the media a few times recently, and never once mentioned Rovers.
RevidgeBlue Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I think that's pretty much spot on. Furthermore, there's nothing that gets supporters onside more than good old fashioned spirit and application and in the current situation that cannot be under-estimated. The "current situation"? I must have missed something, have we been marooned in the bottom three? We've been firmly ensconced in mid table all season! I don't think there's been anything at all wrong with the spirit and application on show this season if you take out the ManUre and Arsenal games tbh.
T4E Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Rev - we haven't won in 4 games, our goal difference is -7, we're only 4 points above the relegation zone and we've only managed to score 3 goals at home. It's far from critical, but it's definitely a "situation" we find ourselves in.

It's far from critical, but it's definitely a "situation" we find ourselves in. All but the top 4 will go 4 games without a win several times a season - I believe it might even have happened during Hughes' reign. And 4 points above relegation is better than being in the bottom 3 at this time of year - something that happened in 3 out of the previous 4 seasons. The only factors that I would call being a situation are the -7 and 3 goals at home, which are, of course, inter-related. It's tough to see that we will have a 20-goal season from anyone this year, so the midfield need to step up. And unfortunately I can;t see the defending improving unless and until we get a real leader of a centre back.

Im not sure that you'd be happy if we had won 9 from 9, sat 4 points clear at the top of the league having not conceeded a single goal and won each game by at least 3 clear goals.

Things are so tight throughout the League at the moment two good or bad results either way make the table look completely different. The only one of those stats that worries me at the moment is the lack of goals.

Agree with with EiT - the definition of "situation" is open to debate - but I can certainly see where Jason was coming from. RevidgeBlue Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 -7 GD Revidge? That's OK? Not ideal in a perfect world, but a poor GD is only like losing one point at the end of the season. I suppose it only really becomes relevant if you're vying for the League/European spot or battling against relegation. Not so much if you're mid table. Put it this way, I'd take four one nil wins and two seven nil defeats out of six any day of the week!
T4E Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Fair point - although I'm sure you'd agree that 9 times out of 10 the GD of a team and their league position tend to be relative to one another. If a team went though the sequence of results above in a season they would have 72 points and a GD of -60 with 2 games to go, and would already have qualified for the Champions League!
Amo Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Things aren't great. Crap home form, second worst goal difference, and clean sheets against the mighty Fulham & Bolton. I think people are kidding themselves trying to gloss over this. And they're conveniently forgetting we missed out on Europe on the last day of the season. Yes, Ince has got to drive the team his own way, but his steering has been wobbly so far.

Amo Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 ....Which they obviously wasted? What's your point?
ABBEY Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 That would be the Fulham and Bolton who spent 27 million between them on new strikers over the summer so if we cant pay as much as them we shouldnt try and beat them?

tony gale's mic Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 We missed out on Europe because we played absolute ###### against Birmingham. Hughes did brilliantly to get the team to that stage though. Teams have off days, and that was one of ours. If Villa hadnt had several off days in the matches leading upto that day then we wouldnt have even been in that position, yet noone is slagging Martin O Neill..
1864roverite Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I think if I watched my team ship 7 goals twice I would be really miffed about it. But Rev, it seems your easily pleased
Exiled in Toronto Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 ....Which they obviously wasted? What's your point? Just that keeping clean sheets against strikers who cost more than our entire team isn't necessarily as pathetic as you are trying to make it seem. so if we cant pay as much as them we shouldnt try and beat them? Pardon? We were talking about keeping clean sheets.
tony gale's mic Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 We were told to judge Ince on results. Well after this game we'll be 11 games into the season, and I have to say the judgement will be definitely veering towards the negative side if things stay the way they are at the Hawthorns. Much too early to make a final call, but I've been discouraged a lot more than encouraged by whats been going on since he's arrived.
Mr. E Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 We're a place or two above the drop zone. But it'not entirely Ine's fault. Too much money in the prem. and we can't compete.
1864roverite Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Its time for a change, its the only option available to Rovers. 11 gmes gone and were staring at the barrell of the gun called RELEGATION. The players seem to have lost their way leaving the manager a bit short on excuses.
Martin Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 By the time the full-time whistle is blown today we may be very close to a 'situation'. And by the time the full-time whistle is blown next week against Chelsea we will definitely find ourselves in a 'situation'. We'll see very soon if Ince has what it takes.
bubblerrovers Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 How long till the Sack Ince thread is posted??
