I am ecstatic about getting through.

Now let's go on a good run of wins and put the doubts behind us.

Weren`t you the one who sarcastically said "is the team being selected by a random number generator?" on the match thread? I suggest you look up the word "prejudice" in the dictionary and write it out a hundred times. You are a very ignorant man as prejudics is the lowest form of ignorance.

Ooh eck.

The team on paper seemed to have little rhyme nor reason.

OK let's look at the stats from tonight.

Shots on target (Sunderland first) 5-2. So both Rovers' attempts on target went in.

Shots off 8-5

Corners 9-3

The BBC match report:

"The home side dominated with Kenwyne Jones hitting the underside of the bar with a header and a Paul Robinson reflex save denying Danny Collins.

"Blackburn went ahead against the run of play when Christopher Samba set up substitute Roque Santa Cruz to head in.

"Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley put the ball into his own net from a Matt Derbyshire cross before Jones pulled a goal back from a long-range effort.

"Jones' first goal since returning from serious injury ensured a testing final 20 minutes for Blackburn, but Sunderland were made to pay for a series of missed opportunities.

"For the second time in five days Sunderland lost a home game after dominating for long periods as they slipped to a fourth successive defeat."

Also worth remembering that Jones also had the ball in the net straiht after Roque's goal and had the only offside decision of the game given against him....

So all in all, not the attacking performance nor the defensive performance I asked for in my post first thing this morning. Let's hope that Ince rides his good fortune and puts a string of wins together but I hardly think tonight is a resounding vindication.

We'll leave that for after the victories against Sunderland (twice more) and the likes of Spurs and Liverpool...

I hope this one result (against the run of play) is not going to fuel the controversy of this forum, but no doubt it will. When Ince can sustain form over a number of games (and prove he knows what he's doing in the transfer market), then my worries will be allayed.

What a change in sentiment 45 minutes between posts brings phillip?

eh?

I'm ecstatic about getting through.

But, was it a commanding performance?

Were we a bit lucky?

Was it a masterpiece of tactical selection?

Let's see what the folks who were there say.

Now who's talking about luck? Weren't there plenty slagging off the manager because he said we'd had bad luck? Now he gets a win and it's good luck. Perhaps he was right in the first place?!

I haven't spoken about luck as a reason for attacking or praising Ince but I did read your post when the teams were announced.

A win is a win, and the records will show it as such.

Why any Rovers fan would expend so much effort on trying to belittle it I'm not sure.

Did you comb the internet after our recent defeats and pull out all the positive things which happened over 90 minutes in those games? Perhaps you'd like to ...

Or perhaps you wouldn't - because you and several others shoot down anyone who dares to pick out any positives from recent fixtures. It really is infuriating.

Yes, Sunderland home is winnable, like last year when we fluke dit.

Spuds and Pompy, yes we will win those ahemmm !

Liverpool at home, definate 3 points there.

Wigan, stoke, sunderland and Man city, yes all winnable again !

In our current form, I dont think we can look forward to more than 6 points at best out of that lot.

I would expect more like:

Sunderland x2 Wigan Stoke 3 points

City and Pompey one point - 14 points.

Just wondering how we've gone when Mokoena has started this season? Like Vogel he hasn't figured much but he does give the side backbone and we do have a defence and a mid-field that needs protecting.Hughes bouht him to do a job and he did it. We wouldn't play like Brazil but we might be hard to beat again.

On the subject of Vogel, he gave an interview to the swiss press which was reported today. In it he says that he can't understand why he's not getting matches and that although it has been made clear to him that he is not wanted by both Williams and Ince, he loves it over in u.k and he is not going to move his family. He reckons he is going to fight for his place and stay until his contract runs out in 2011.

He has a reputation for using lawyers to fight his case so Ince be warned.

Although I want Ince to be a success and believe we can't judge him yet his attitude to Vogel is very disappointing. He complains about being down to the bare bones but won't give this guy a chance. He prefers instead to play Grella who was clearly not fit against West Brom or Chelsea. After watching the performance of Fowler at Sunderland last night I find it even more incredible that Vogel has been frozen out. When Fowler can play like he has done and be rewarded with a starting place it reflects badly on the manager that an experienced player like Vogel can be frozen out at a time when we are crying out for some quality in the midfield. This is very similar to the worst of the final period of the Souness era.

I would love to know why Vogel has been frozen out the way he has, It seemed to happen very early in Inces tenure, it makes you wonder if it stems from before Ince was here.

Does Vogels falling out with Betis have some bearing or did some of Inces italian connections take a dislike to him at Milan? I know i sound like an aul one but i love the off field drama in football!!!

there were a lot of people comparing Ince's references to having bad luck as sounding like the bad side of Souness' reign here. I don't know whether you were one of them - probably not. However, you were the one asking if we were lucky which was why my post got attached to your name. as for my questions as to why McCarthy was not playing - being not in possession of the facts re the death of his father and going from veiled hints that there was something wrong I made a wrong assumption. It happens to us all at times and my sympathies of course are entirely with Mccarthy and his family.

Ince has shown admirable open-mindedness in giving some of the youngsters chances.

And, despite the apocalyptic fears of certain people, these guys have not caused disaster. Yes, no-one has convinced absolutely but we can now call upon Olsson and Treacy as useful squad players and hopefully they'll improve with games.

Er, he's shown the squad is down to the bare bones more like.

But I guess it means you're happy.
