Ste B Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Look up - Shillito, J. Look up - Shithole Seriously, look up St Annes, as Blackpool is kind of unpleasant nowadays.

Ste B Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Stay in Preston / Manchester and get the train into Blackpool for the day.
tcj_jones Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Manchester is always a good base from which tove outward. I've stayed at the Hatters Hostel a few times now, just off the highstreet. Very basic, but also very cheep and serves its purpose well.

Preston is good place to stay? I checked train time table, I can't back to Manchester when the game finished around 10 pm.
DanLad Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Preston is good place to stay? I checked train time table, I can't back to Manchester when the game finished around 10 pm. It looks to me like there is a 23.10 from Blackburn to Manchester Victoria on Saturdays.

colin Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 It looks to me like there is a 23.10 from Blackburn to Manchester Victoria on Saturdays. Dan, it's not a Saturday. Dillo will be there on a Tuesday night. Everyone else: Dillo will be a woman on her own, in a foreign country. So if you do have any suggestions for a decent place to stay for her please post them. I do realise that most of us the north west will not have ever needed to get a place for an overnight stay in Blackpool. It's not every day we get asked for help from a Blackburn Rovers' supporter from Tokyo, so let's give it a go eh? Cheers everyone. Apologies if this sounds a bit hectoring. It's not meant to be in the slightest. Colin
LDRover Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 There's a hotel that's half decent called The Tudor Rose on the front (South Shore) at Blackpool 25 quid a night with breakfast thrown in, www.tudor-rose-hotel.co.uk tel no. - 01253 342656 and another that I have stayed in that was excellent 12 months ago called The Tudor Rose Original (uncannily) also 25 quid a night with breakfast thrown in. On Withnell Road on South Shore near the Pleasure Beach. Tel no - 01253 343485 web address www.tudorroseblackpool.com. Hope that helps.
vintageadidas Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Stay at either the Grand in Lytham St. Annes, the Dalmeny or a cheaper option is the St.Ives and get a taxi into Blackpool. Blackpool is not a nice place. However, if you must stay there this is a good hotel: Barcelo Blackpool Imperial
dillo_dillo Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Thanks All : ) Your info helps me. Conversely, let me know "Do not stay this Hotel/ B&B" on your experience. I do realise that most of us the north west will not have ever needed to get a place for an overnight stay in Blackpool. Thanks Colin, I think so too. I guess non North-West UK residents know well about accommodations around Lancashire.... (same as, If you ask me about accommodation in Tokyo, I don't have useful info... )
Biddy Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I recently stayed at the Norbreck Castle Hotel just past Bispham on the sea-front. It was well priced, £65 for 2 dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was good (if a little school like). However, if you want a comfortable nights sleep, don't stay there. For what they reckon is a 3 star hotel, you would really expect them to get the basics right. One of the windows didn't shut properly so you hear the gulls all night. The decor was old to say the least. Passable but again, not what I would class 3-star standard. Also, the matress was so old and worn you could feel every single spring. I ended up sleeping on top of the sheets and blankets to try and put enough padding over the springs. not good. I couldn't have done 2 nights there.
MCMC1875 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 St Annes is going the same way I understand. Towns full of benefit wallers. Pots and kettles spring to mind Theno! Anyway I have to disagree - St Annes has stopped well short of the rot that Blackpool has suffered, no doubt buoyed by some of Lytham's wealth that has rubbed off.
JC4LAB Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 You could always stay at the Burnley Hotel of course..I think its Station road near the Prom...Dont know how many stars its got!...
DanLad Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Dan, it's not a Saturday. Dillo will be there on a Tuesday night. Colin Cheers, Colin. I had no idea when Dillo was visiting, of course. Just trying to be helpful. I wouldn't stay in Blackpool if you paid me. Horrible place. As a result I've no useful information as to where to stay or not stay. BTW I think it's great that you're coming over to visit Dillo! You're a breath of fresh air when you post on here!
