Rovers crashed to a 2-0 defeat to local rivals Manchester United last night at a packed Ewood Park.

Rovers began well and dominated the first 15 minutes with the best chance falling to Matt Derbyshire, however his shot was well saved. As the first half wore on United started to dominate and it was no surprise when they took the lead albeit in controversial circumstances with Rovers goalkeeper Brown being fouled by Vidic as he came out to claim a Rooney cross which was scrambled home by Wes Brown.

The second half was dominated by United who were allowed to pass the ball around as Rovers sat off them. Brown made several saves but was powerless to prevent Rooney smashing home United's second goal. Tevez and Ronaldo could have added to Rovers misery as Ewood Park rapidly emptied. In the end a disappointing performance and fans will be hoping to see an improvement against Bolton in two weeks time.

After the match Paul Ince expressed him disappointment at the opening goal "I wouldn't say it cost us the game but it was 0-0.

"If the referee can't see it then he shouldn't be a referee. If not then the linesman should see it - it was a diabolical decision.

"They (United) were absolutely awesome, they are a fantastic side and champions of Europe but decisions change games."

However Sir Alex was delighted with his team's display "We said before the game this is one of most difficult grounds to come to, but it was a really emphatic performance.

"The confidence was outstanding and everyone was on song. Everyone's use of the ball was spot on and we controlled the match.

We missed a lot of chances and it could have been a big score for us."
