Tris Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I think Craig Short would be a good shout, he was always popular with the fans, one of my personal favourites, and I presume he's not upto much at the moment. Brad Friedel, Graeme Souness, John Curtis, Stig? There's quite a few to choose from to be honest! Craig's busy teaching people to sail up on Windermere. Agree he'd be ok though, he must have a few stories. Also agree with Den - Andy Bayes was really good last night, helped put Matt at ease. Wouldn't have worked without him.

RovertheHill Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I reckon Garry Flitcroft would have some interesting stories to tell even if only constrained to football
den Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I reckon Garry Flitcroft would have some interesting stories to tell even if only constrained to football Interestingly enough, Matty did say that Gary Flitcroft was a top, top bloke. Playing in the team with Flitty as captain was a pleasure and everyone responded to him. Fabulous team spirit at that time apparently.
Sparky Marky Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I bet Howard Kendal would be a great guest.

Playing in the team with Flitty as captain was a pleasure and everyone responded to him. Fabulous team spirit at that time apparently. It doesn't surprise me. He was a great servant for this club - 9 years I think. I remember I suggested he should have a testimonial if he got to 10 years and I got shouted down by the moaners amd whingers on here. They said he only stayed because nobody else would have him (damned if you leave, damned if you stay!). I heard a story about him and Craig Hignett that was hilarious although almost certainly libellous!
BuckyRover Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Le Saux was certainly always willing to stop and talk if you met him out in Clitheroe or waddington. i remember my daughter coming home from a friend's house in waddington and saying she'd been given orange juice and biscuits by him when she was playing in the stream by his house. she was thrilled to bits. One of the funniest moments though was my elder daughter, then in her early teens, spotting him in Market street in clitheroe, plucking up courage to approach him, saying "Are you Graeme Lesaux?" and then running away because she was so overwhelmed that she'd spoken to him she didn't know what to say if he replied Those were the days, when men could give random children orange juice and biscuits without fear of being branded something unmentionable
gumboots Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Those were the days, when men could give random children orange juice and biscuits without fear of being branded something unmentionable Yes they were. Not that long ago either. Nowadays he'd need police clearance to talk to them withourt their parents' being present.
92er Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 There are going to be excerpts of the conversations with Jansen on Radio Lancs tonight from 6:00 PM and I think there might also be some details on their website.

T4E Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I wonder just how much confidence last night gave Matt to spur him on in his return. Sounds like just the right event at just the right time for him. What chances he gets back to his best, fires us out of trouble and into Europe, and Brownie never lets anyone forget it
Brownie Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 I wonder just how much confidence last night gave Matt to spur him on in his return. Sounds like just the right event at just the right time for him. What chances he gets back to his best, fires us out of trouble and into Europe, and Brownie never lets anyone forget it Joking aside T4E, he left the pub with a real buzz about himself, he said to me "Thanks for inviting me tonight, I was really nervous about it but really enjoyed every minute of it and the fans are unbelievable" After orchestrating his "There's only one Matt Jansen song" and doing a dance ala Terry Butcher/Chriss Waddle to it, he left the pub with a massive smile on his face and waved through every window he walked past on his way to the car park. I honestly think last night has given his self confidence a massive boost. There are going to be excerpts of the conversations with Jansen on Radio Lancs tonight from 6:00 PM and I think there might also be some details on their website. This was recorded in the snooker room with Andy Bayes as part of the deal to get him to host the evening. I hope you can hear the buzz of the crowd in the other room !
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Been going to Ewood since 1961 and Matty was one of my all time favourites. Once Souness taught him how play for the team he was fantastic. Good pace, great balance and ball skills, a tremendous finisher with both feet and his head. He was also a real trier, there were no lost causes for him, he'd chase the lot down.He was also durable and very rarely injured, ironic isn't it ? I also liked the way he played with a smile on his face. His accident, apart from the death of Uncle Jack is the biggest tragedy to hit Rovers in my lifetime. I you read this Matt, all the best in the future son and thanks for the memories
Sandiway Blue Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Well done Brownie on hosting the event i`m glad it was financially worthwhile too.I haven

Well done Brownie on hosting the event i`m glad it was financially worthwhile too.I haven Cheers, the ticket sales just about covered the costs of hosting the event so obviously the bar takings were the bonus.
Sandiway Blue Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Well done Brownie on hosting the event,i`m glad it was financially worthwhile too.I haven`t been able to go to any of these events as i work nights, but i am back on double day shifts after next week, so if you organise another night like this i will definitely be up for it. EDIT: double post! Bloody PC! this is what i was supposed to post.

I honestly think last night has given his self confidence a massive boost. It definitely sounds that way, I sincerely hope he gives you good reason to feel smug over the coming months. He actually was asked about the brfcs.com messageboard and he said he cant work computers and never uses them ! No wonder he's desperate to get back - just as well he doesn't know how to work a PC otherwise coming on here to argue about Ince would have given him more than enough to do with his time!
CrazyIvan Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 It definitely sounds that way, I sincerely hope he gives you good reason to feel smug over the coming months. So do I. I'm glad it went well although I wish I could have been there...
tonygreenbank Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Cheers Brownie for arranging the night. I couldn`t be there but just reading about the night has given me a real boost both about Jansen and the Rovers after so many dark days since last Saturday. Thanks from a grateful fan.
den Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Matty is nothing like your marred-arsed modern footballer. He comes across as a really nice lad, or as Souness once said "Son -in - law material". With a bit of luck, we'll soon see him with the reserves, then the first team squad.

I hope so - that would be superb. My second favourite player ever after Tugay. He can't be worse than Franny Jeffers and Blobby Fowler and they got pay-as-you-play contracts. At the very least maybe he can show Roberts how to trap a ball
den Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Should be able to hear it live here.. Click on the right hand side.
Brownie Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Should be able to hear it live here.. Click on the right hand side. Its the bloody lead story, I should get a mention, or The Hordens should. Unbelievable
MCMC1875 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I bet Howard Kendal would be a great guest. Saxton, Mackay or Fazackerley next.
den Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 If anyone didn't hear the interview, you can listen to it again by clicking the link half way down THIS page.
