RibbleValleyRover Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Yep just seen it as well on the BBC site.
Blue n White Rover Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Steven reid out for rest of season with knee injury Breaking news SSN. Not a major loss to be honest. Feel sorry for the lad though, been out for 2 years, plays for 3 months and then this happens. Hope you have a speedy recovery mate. Would people say it is time for him to hang up his boots?
DingleBaiter Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Terrible news though for an honest, nice lad - although not the best around, always been committed and I'm sure he will be 100% focussed on a full recovery. Wonder what our insurance premiums are on him? He's defied the odds to battle back twice before, sure he will again. However, let's be thankful we've a glut of midfielders to cover/replace the loss. No doubt will get an outcrop of people blaming Ince for injuries now.
bubblerrovers Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Time for us too let him go, complete waste of wages. No room for sentiment in football

CrazyIvan Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I agree with that. I hope he recovers fully and gets back to the form he showed a couple of seasons ago. I'll never forget that rocket at Wigan. It looked like the ball was coming straight at my head because of where I was sitting. I'm glad the net was there!

You must have been close to me there CI as I ducked down sharpish
Hughesy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Shame for the lad - really wanted him to get back to his old form. How long does he have left on his contract? Surely he must have dodgy knees, is that the same injury as his last knee one?

ihtd Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Disappointed for Reidy but i cannot help but feel that the one good season he had is going to be just that, one good season. He is too injury prone and i personally would like to see the club help he with his rehab of the injury and then send him off to a new club to ply his trade. He isn't good enough or consistantly fit enough for the Premiership anymore, as previously mentioned, we cannot be sentimental and keep him on because he scored a screamer at Wigan. 6-7 goals in 90 matches for a midfielder isn't a particulary good record for a lad that likes to go box to box.
Hughesy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I agree - all the sentiment does go for him and hopes he recovers for his sake, but I think we should start looking for his replacement. Does anyone know how long his contract is for? Found it - 2010!
OscarRaven Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Terrible news for Reid and Rovers. If its the same knee I can't see him making it back, unfortunatley I can't see him playing for Rovers again. If he recovers physically he won't mentally (I don't think it did last time) and will never be the same player because of it. Its a good job clubs aren't as sickenenly mercenary as players and we will stand by him through his injury and no doubt give him a chance to get back. Saying that when his contract is up...... Good luck Steven.
Stylish kid in the Riot Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Feel so sorry for Reidy, its a real shame. He's an honest guy's whose always committed but thruth is he just isnt good enough. Its a shame that it has taken ANOTHER injury to get him out of our side. On another positive front it will re-enforce the need to sign a midfielder in January. Here's hoping!!!
2PAC 4 Blackburn Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I hear Beckham wants to come back to the Premiership? Be an ideal replacement!
Hughesy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 What is most odd is that he has trained all week and Ince was planning on playing him as he looked sharp, yet the club doctor decided the tablets were not working and he needs to op.
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I expect us to keep him on to see if he can recover or not, he is contracted until 2010. Its a shame injuries have taken their toll on Reidy, i was hoping he would once again show the form that lead us to a sixth place finish. I wish him all the best in his recovery. roverfanuk Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Could this be the kick Incey needs to get that RM... He was using Reid as a backup option to Emerton at RM on occasion...
Exiled in Toronto Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Both Reifd and Dunn out for yonks, and they could well have been our first choice central mid pairing. Mr Grella isn't going to get the time to adapt that he craves.
frosty Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Shame for him. It was less than a year ago he made his first appearance for ages....now he's got another long term injury. Have to feel sorry for him.
tonygreenbank Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Best of luck Reidy on a speedy recovery. He`s been playing well for Ireland this year and I was really looking forward to seeing him as our engine room. Looks like Andrews will have a big part to play now.
