Alan75 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 After failing to get any change out of Samba and his central defensive partner Ryan Nelsen, in this afternoons local derby against Blackburn Rovers, at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton Wanderers may concider invoicing Rovers for the cost of replacing their goal posts after Rovers defender Chris Samba rocked the structure from its foundations with a crunching body check late on in the game. Without the injured the Santa Cruz, Robbie Fowler made his first Premier League start for Rovers partnering Jason Roberts in attack, however neither of the Rovers strikers or Bolton’s forwards had their shooting boots as the game was played out to a goal-less draw. That’s not to say that the game didn’t have it’s chances with Villanueva clipped the bar and Roberts putting a free header wide from less than six yards in the first half. Roberts and Villanueva had an opportunities to redeem themselves in the second half, but took Roberts one touch to many when through on goal with just Jaaskelainen to beat and Villanueva slipped at the vital moment, after Fowler had slipped the ball through to him. The home side also had a number of missed chances themselves, with Taylor being their main threat, clipping the post in the second half. Despite the failure to hit the back of the net, Rovers players this afternoon proved the doubters wrong, with a battling performance; highlighted by Samba’ crushing collision with the Bolton goal post in his do or die attempt to get the ball.
