So, you have given me an answer. It was one that philip alluded to in a previous post.

It comes down to the situation (and this also applies to the Rovers, but they are already there and competing for now) you can't play with the big boys if you haven't the wherewithall to back up your would be status. It's a problem that all the wouldbes (no disrespect) have, and a problem all the dropouts from the prem don't want to have.

We don't have the whereithall to compete because we don't have the benefit of 50 million a year from TV money (thats about 6 times our turnover).

All in all we did well during the competition and played some decent football. In truth with a small squad and limited resources in many respects we could do without the cup runs. As pointed out we have played 6 games since the third of January, including 2 lots of extra time. It all just detracts ultimately from what they can produce on the pitch, leads to more injuries and suspensions.

Still, thanks to those who have been complimentary about our performances. This is one dingle who is anything but down about the outcome, a final appearance would have been nice but even with such a heartbreaking ending it has been an exciting journey. I just hope we can start to find some league form and get back into the play off spots.

There was nothing to beef up the defence with. We have 6 defenders at the club. One was suspended and the other left the pitch injured in the first half, meaning that all of our remaining defenders were on the pitch. Ade's day is long gone, but he's occasionally a handful (as he showed at Chelsea). I'd imagine Coyle looked onto the pitch and took off Paterson because he looked the most knackered. The other choices on the bench were a goalkeeper, an 18 year old striker or two attacking midfielders. Coyle has made plenty of tactical mistakes since he came to the club, but I don't think he made any last night. In the end fatigue and superior quality told.

That post brings home the reality of football outside the Premier League.

Rovers fans think we are short at the back with "only" nine recognised defenders with first team experience, seven of whom are full internationals with over 100 caps between them.

Well said longsider. Compare that to comments from the whingeing moaning cockney gits who are now in a Wembley final within 10 mins of their Norf Landan 2 up 2 downs.

Wembley feels like the other side of the moon if you live in Tottenham! A lot more than 10 minutes. Not that they deserve to be there.

I have to say Burnley have been an absolute credit to the competition this year. It has been a long long time since I have seen a Championship side play with as much confidence and flair against Premiership opposition as Burnley did against Spurs in the first 45 of the first leg and the 90 in the second. The assist for the second goal from Blake was sublime! The quality of some of the passing put quite a few Premiership sides to shame.

The main problem for Burnley is how to hold on to Coyle who is clearly an exceptional talent. I think there is only one way to do that - promotion.

Longsiders, and Exiled, I wasn't having a go at Bumley, I just found it strange that Coyle did what he did. You provided me with an answer; I accept that.

At least it has highlighted one shortcoming in your side, one that Coyle may need to address. Imagine had that happened in a game that would have got you promoted!

I've got to admit that I do have a soft spot for Bumley, my late father in law was an avid clarets fan.

I do enjoy them being beaten though.

Sorry Dave - I didn't think you were having a go - was just highlighting the reality of football for us.

And don't worry - I love seeing your shower lose as well - was gutted when Ince left. <_<

I agree entirely, Coyle is destined for the top, looks a very good manager, however it is different week in week out in the premiership.

I wouldnt be surprised if a premiership club comes for him soon!!

Indeed - our club managed to find a real gem there. Not sure Prem clubs will come knocking just yet - as yourselves showed, at this stage in a season, when you are in trouble and want a new man at the helm experience is often the biggest factor. Maybe in the summer, depending upon what happens with us of course.

I've also got to admit to having mixed feelings about the outcome of the game last night. On the one hand I despise Spurs and their institutionalised arrogance, and on the other there is my own deeply ingrained emnity towards the old enemy..

Having said that I would have been delighted for Burnley had they been able to shut out Spurs till the end - that kind of game is something that lives long in the memory of the true fan and could only have been good for football in our region. Plus, as others have noted, there is something deeply distasteful about the lack of even begrudging acknowledgement of the scare given by Burnley from the introspective and highly unlikeable southern softies. It reminds me of the aftermath from the Cardiff semi-final (quarter final) v Arsenal a few years back where they won 3-0 but could only moan about how few Rovers fans had made the journey, our carthorse tactics and the lumps we had kicked out of their prized primadonnas. Makes you sick!!

Anyway, well done Burnley FC - a credit to football, a great example of what a leveler good attitude and belief is agains superstardom and reputation. But most of all, thanks for doing the decent thing and falling on your sword 3 minutes from time. So near, and yet so far - priceless!

Up the Rovers!

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the match because I was away out to my grandsons birthday celebrations up in Perthshire. However, I have got the gist of the match from reading the previous posts on this thread, and it is obvious to all except the most thick and blinkered that Burnley played very well in the two matches overall. Added to which if you look at the difference in the relative wealth and resources available to each of the two clubs concerned, then Burnley's performance becomes almost miraculous.

But all that is just a general impression available to any football fan anywhere; it does not take into account the actual performance on the pitch of the players and the manager and coaches that got the players to produce it in spite of having a very small squad available to do it with.

So as a lifelong Rovers fan I salute you Burnley FC. Very well done! And to all the idiots who have besmirched the reputation of BRFC fans by writing the garbage that they have produced in many of the earlier posts I say: it is time you lot learned the difference between normal friendly rivalry and downright stupidity. Some of the comments make me cringe in their sheer blind hatred and senseless vulgarity. These people need to know the difference between the normal banter that goes on between our two proud clubs and the vile but utterly uncalled for and brainless filth that is often trotted out on this MB. To the culprits I just have one thing to say and that is either get a genuine sense of reality about football club derby relationships or else at least stop writing your stupid and vile filth on this MB. Grow up!!!!!!

Absolute credit to Burnley, who really did play well, and were unfortunate not to get through. Overall I thought they played the better, and just didn't have that final piece of energy to keep Spurs out. As I was watching the game, I turned to my other half, and said the Burnley Players looked dead on their feet, and would be lucky to see the last 5 minutes through - And sure enough that was the case.

So, very well done, a shame you just couldn't hold on to what would have been an historic occasion and from what I've heard, pretty much all neutral fans wanted to see.

You couldn't have written a better script, to have their hopes dashed with only a few minutes to go was fantastic. Only thing that could have made things better was for the goals to be controversial.

Sky true to form homed on the crying masses also.

Great night.

To all Burnley fans, as A Rovers fan you are the enemy, but credit where credit is due, you were awesome last night and deserve all the accolades to fans, management and players!!

Had it been Rovers performing in that way I would have been ecstatic!!

Well done

Had it been Rovers in that position losing with 2 minutes to go, do you really think those burnley fans would have given us any sympathy?? I very much doubt it!

They deserved everything they got last night and i'm for one delighted with the outcome!

Straight to the point:

Many a Burnley fan rejoiced at our semi-final exit at Old Trafford to Chelsea, for any Burnley reading this....... what goes around comes around I suppose.

That said,I thought Burnley were the better side over the two legs and if there is any justice in football Utd will totally crush and humiliate Spuds in the final. They are a total shambles of a club.

I am barely able to stop grinning. It was a perfect ending.

By the way, Burnley were made to to look good in both legs against a shocking Spurs side - old saddleface redcapp must be wondering what kind of team he has inherited. Spurs were truly aweful last night.

What the bloody 'ell has happened to Bentley?

Now, I'm watching lastnight game. Woooow! Burnley! yeah!

It's really exciting game! I'm really enjoying!!

I for one didn't want either side to win and get through to wembley, and that fact alone I'm afraid spoiled what should have been a great nights viewing.

The fact is, it was one hell of a cup tie, in many ways a bit of a throwback to years gone by.

Should really know better at my age and enjoy it for what it was.......Saying that, it was Spurs and Burnley
