So it's 49 years since you last won anything major? Were you 3 or 4?

And maybe there's a reason why you have only just started coming on here?

Born in June, so I would have been 3. So I have lived through us been champions of all 4 divisions, 1/4 finalists in European cup and Fairs cup, FA cup finalists, Charity shield winners and joint winners (not a drugs referance) Anglo Scotish cup winners and a defeat at Crewe that I really thought meant the end of the club (the game before the Orient game) a real roller coaster ride for a small town club.

Not quite sure what you are getting at with the question about only just coming on here, nothing sinister, have been posting on claretsmad for years, then occasionally on roversmad (they get a few of our idiots on there so I just try to show that most of us are sensible) on there it was mentioned about this forum,I had never heard of it before but it said it was a good one so I had a look. As there was this pro burnley thread and I wanted advice about travel to Arsenal I decided to give it a try. So nothing to do with us having such a fabulous season at all (if that was what you were thinking.)

Sam whoooooosh

Yorky you were saying you won 39 derby games to our 37. I hope we play you guys soon, so we can rectify that bit of history you feel so proud of.

And the same applies to the guy who wants to make a 33 years banner, for Man United. If you do get promoted, then maybe start a new banner indicating 33 years it will take to meet Man United again.

Bloody Hell, you go on a Stag weekend and all hell breaks loose.

OK, firstly, I've been coming on this board on and off for a while. I don't squat on here, just drop in now and then to see whats occuring and exchange a bit of banter and genuine football opinion with the fans on here - well most of them.

Now, to deal with the 'boarded' up houses type comments. I would kind of agree if Blackburn was actually any better but it isn't. Both towns, whether any of us like to accept it or not, have much in common, including many of the same social issues. So in short, on both sides of the fence, those that live in glass houses ....

Now for the painful 30 years and all that. I tend to agree today the arguements from Burnley fans will have about as much value as they would have done from Rovers fans in the 50's 60's an 70's. That said it would be a very blinkered Rovers fan who refused to acknowledge the incredible advantage handed to you by Jack Walker and how his immense generosity enabled you to reach the top of English football, sort your ground out and use the increased exposure to build your gates. Still, we can always dream. We have had a wonderful season for once. We may yet get promoted, we have enjoyed some memorable games in the cup and have played football that is actually enjoyable to see. Who knows, maybe we will meet next season, be it in the Prem or the Championship, and get another chance to reset the clock. Neither club can be sure where they will be plying their trade next season just yet.

In the interim I have to say this season looks like being arguably the most exciting in the history of the Prem with both top and bottom being hard to call whilst for my part it has been our most enjoyable season in many a year. We could be just 9 games from the Prem (6 if god is still in the miracle business)

Pretty sure they beat you 3-0 or 3-1 a few seasons ago. Pre season maybe?

Beat us in the Carling Cup 2002/3 - 2-0 - I guess he was refering to League Results?

I cannot for the love of all things football, understand how Burnley fans still attack Rovers. They not in the premierleague, they havent won a cup, no Europe and aliens are getting free tickets to smurf moor. We better than them, we always have been and we alway will be.

Even the most blinkered fan would see the nonesense in that statement - look back and you will see we were consistently more succesful than Rovers for pretty much 30 years from the 50's on. Of course since the early 80's that trend reversed

So if you have always been better than us, why is it that we have won a magnificent 39 derby games against you, compared to a weedy little 37 that you have won?

Just be honest and admit that your bitterness towards us is because we win things through our own endevours where as you have to have yours paid for by a sugar daddy.

Are you sure? I checked this and thought the stat was 39 Derby wins for Rovers and 37 for us? The only positive stat I could find on that score was we had won 16 at Ewood compared to Rovers 14 wins at the turf.

Longsiders

Not counted them myself but I got that information from the East Lancs Derby page on wikipedia, it has shown that statistic for a long time without a challenge.

Whatever, I expect us to be adding to our score in the not too distant future.

Sams Man U flag.

It's obviously a wind up, saying that we care as little about your 29 years as they care about not beating us for so long. It seems to have gone over everybodys head (hence my whoooooosh comment on an earlier post).

Don't know where the dingles get the idea they were as supreme in the 50's, 60's as we have been in the last 30 years. As I remember it games were usually very hard to call with both teams having their share of wins, usually when it was least expected ( The highligh of the 1966 relegation season was our demolition of the mighty clarets 4-1 at the Turf, we lost our home match though !)

I always maintain that it was only us beating them home and away in the 1961- 62 season that caused them to be pipped at the post wnen Ipswich Town won the old Div.1

Get your facts right dingles.

I do believe you may have gotten that wrong Yorky my friend.

According to Dean Hayes 'East Lancashire Derbies' its 39/35 in Rovers favour.....please do carefully check those facts before shouting off on here!

;)

And the FA Cup draw at t'Turf in 1960 (despite being 3-1 down with about 15 to play (I think) and subsequent victory at Ewood blasted their double hopes to smithereens too. The Dingle 'elders' that I have spoken to since were mighty bitter about that I can tell you.

Just a pity we didn't win at wembley!

I am here to have a friendly chat with fellow football fans on a pro Burnley thread.

SG19 as I said earlier I coppied that info from wikipedia, not the most reliable of souces I admit. When I have time I will have a count up myself and if wikipedias info is wrong I will hold my hand up.

Your quite right Bob.

Played 82 times in the Football league......36/33 wins in Rovers favour.

Played 7 times in the FA cup ....3/2 wins in Rovers favour.

What are your real feelings towards Rovers then Yorky,do you harbour the same 'hatred' and jealousy that many of your fellow claret kin feel towards East Lancashires finest in the famous blue 'n' white?

I have to admit I revel in the rivalry and the history but dont go for the violence that has over shadowed this great derby in the not too distant past,I'm 36 and have only ever seen us play 4 games in my life!!

I happen to work in Burnley and know well of the animosity that does exist towards t' bastds!

Soccerbase. I can't believe he got it wrong.

So that's 39 v 37 wins in Rovers favour. 2 of burnley's wins were Test Matches according to Soccerbase. Cricket for heavens sake.

Bob, those test matches were not cricket, they were a play off for who played in each of the 2 divisions used I believe from 1893 to 1899.

Sorry if your 'cricket' comment was for comic effect, I don't know you well enough to know.

Still talking about the past? I can understand that. Percentage football is your future.

And as we're talking of the past...

When we go up in May, defying the odds with the smallest squad in the Championship, against all those big city clubs with their parachute payments, it will feel like it would have felt for you back in the day (89?) if you hadn't just missed out to Palace.

I know that was before football was invented (1992) but the odd one on here will remember. It will be glorious and even Abbey will rejoice in the magic of the moment.

THEN ID REJOICE..EVEN ITS NOBEND OR PALACE

I'm guessing we base that on the fact that we were champions of the country and I believe got to more FA cup finals and semi finals than you did during that period. But that would purely be a guess. I mean lets have it right, almost all your successes were pre world war 1, and other than a runners up spot in the fa cup in the 60's you'd won nowt (since world war 1) of note until Jack came along - In fact we were Champions of the country twice during the intervening years.

But look, thats all ancient history. Today is what really counts and nobody can argue that you have had the upper hand for far to long, helped in recent years (circa 20?) by huge investment that we could simply not hope to compete with. Its a fact, I accept it and just pray for a day when we have an even playing field again.
