SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 It would never be viable for Rovers,Burnley or Preston to merge, too much history past and present, too much seperate identity.....too much pride amongst the respective sets of fans. The clubs themselves are far too important to the respective towns for anyone of authority to let it happen. I would be happy for Rovers to fold altogether rather than see their proud history wiped away to form some East Lancashire monstrosity. My personal interest in football would die a death and I would find other interests........I have a feeling most would feel the same way. THANK GOD IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

THANK GOD IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Relegation and in 2/3 years of decline YOU will be down to 8000 crowds at best. I say you cos I'd be off. Crap football no longer interests me. Div 2/3 is for losers I've got that T shirt and one is enough thanks.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 If your hearts in it Theno YOU will follow YOUR club through thick and thin.Even the thought of Div 3 football appeals to me more than Rovers losing their identity altogether, everyone to their own I suppose. 134 old and still going strong...

Nope. Life's too short for basement football where the milkman doesn't get paid and even when you get a manager capable of assembling a decent team the likes of Crawford and Tony Field get enticed away. It's even worse now as the flippin papers hardly bother to report lower league stuff other than printing the results and tables. As I say I've been there and I'm not going back.
thenodrog Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Golf club membership starting to bite? No common sense. No doubt if this came about the golf clubs around here couldn't cope with about 12000 new members to accommodate. Personally golf clubs, motor bikes and narrowboats .... I've a list a mile long that I'd rather do than hero worshipping and funding talentless amateur footballers pretending to be professionals. But hey Stu whatever floats your boat eh?

thenodrog Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 At least you're honest Gord. Correct. But is that valued on here? I frequently don't think so.
stuwilky Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Depends on the context. The admission that you cant be bothered with a non top flight team will be cherished by some, and will horrify others.

thenodrog Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Always took him to be a glory hunter. Put me down as a pleasure seeker instead Aggy, and traipsing all winter around the likes of Roots Hall, Gay Meadow, Field Mill and Gigg lane is no longer my idea of pleasure. Sorry but I like watching football too much. Still whatever floats your boat too eh?

THANK GOD IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Not often we agree but I think that posts about sums up why this won't happen. I don't know enough Rovers fans to say but I know current Burnley fans would never go for it, ever. You mention younger fans - I have 3 sons (18, 14 and 7) and they have all been taught since day 1 to dislike all things Rovers and Blackburn (not hate, not the bile of my generation) and they will never go near Ewood other than to support whoever you were playing. I've no doubt if Burnley dissapeared as an entity then they would just chose a Liverpool or a Man U. Me I'd give up - or maybe go and watch Nelson or something.
mhead Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 The only thing constant is change. If you do not go forward you only go backward. I know a piece of land near the M6 this side of the"Tickled Trout' perfect for the new ground and park and ride for Preston City Centre and "Lancs United'. Just the right time for a Consortia to put an offer in...we will be the new "Chelsea" in 20 years. Progress....and no consorting with the Clampetts.

(Only joking) But seriously it will never work and if any entrepraneur wants to give it a try, I just hope he is so mega-rich that the loss of the several hundred million needed to set it up will be of no concern to him, because that's exactly what will happen.

Presty On Tour Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Did anyone else watch Wrestlemania last night?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 No, but I heard about the Burnley flag and "Owen Coyle is God" placards in the crowd.
sambo Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 ^ Was absolutely horrible to see. My mate had it on and I had to do a double take.
thenodrog Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Says alot about the man i'd say, but nothing we didn't alrady know. Rubber dingy anyone Kinell! Thats rich from someone who professes to hate both the manager and the star player so much that they will watch from the pub. I think if I ever want a rubber dinghy that the easiest way is simply to throw you out of yours. You're as daft as Theno! As I understand things you hardly go anymore Fife .... obviously cos you live in Fife . So your opinion matters little to the financial situation at BRFC. Truth is it's the same with lots of 'absent / distant supporters. Not often we agree but I think that posts about sums up why this won't happen. Thats fine longsider.... but be warned if BRFC, PNE and Pool/Notlob ever join forces then your lot are history and thats that.

Fife Rover Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 How's the pub any different from the golf course? Well said Tris! Before Gordon comes in with one of his famous retorts, I will answer that one. You only get wet inside in the pub, and outside on the golf course.

You maybe right - just not sure what makes you think Rovers are better liked than Burnley by PNE, Blackpool, Bolton etc. I suspect you would find the same opinion amongst those fans as you do your own and Burnley. Your idea makes business sense, we all know that but emotionally it does not work - and fans of smaller clubs are all about emotion, not business.
thenodrog Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 You maybe right - just not sure what makes you think Rovers are better liked than Burnley by PNE, Blackpool, Bolton etc. Suicide squad perhaps?
