longsiders1882 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Suicide squad perhaps? Interesting, there was a post on here - possibly this thread actually - where posters were commenting on the hidings Rovers fans had handed out. It refered to Burnley but clearly you had your fair share of thugs who liked to 'mix it' back in the day. Still, it is a pointless debate from my side of the fence. I do not believe Burnley fans or people would ever go for it - I don't think Blackburn folk would either (nor indeed the other old Lancs clubs). To quote a song from the psychedelic 70's - your problem is you don't know about Quark, Strangeness and Charm.

dave birch Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Longsiders, you are, afterall talking to/and about Theno. You'll have to talk about golf and such things to get much sense.
67splitscreen Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Reading the article today about Accy's ex players betting against themselves, got me wondering who was the first dodgy footballer to fix a game. Well no pints for guessing but they just had to be involved somewhere. £2 - 5 a man.
Gav Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Kinell! Thats rich from someone who professes to hate both the manager and the star player so much that they will watch from the pub. I think if I ever want a rubber dinghy that the easiest way is simply to throw you out of yours. Where did I say I hated the manager?
No Nay Never Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I have nothing against the manager, or the team. Infact credit where it is due Coyle has done a fantastic job with what hes had to spend etc. It's some of the fans I cannot stand (not all i must add) but some are just unable to deal with facts...like the ones that pull out the old chesnut...... Question - How many was on the turf last night ? Answer (dingle) - Well they announced 10507 but there was about 15000 on. and the classic.... IF we were in the prem we would sell out every game !
philipl Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Could not find the days since section but isn't today the 30th anniversary of a certain sad event... Combination of the defeat at Cardiff and the dingles' run-in must be giving hope to PNE and Swansea of getting that play-off place.
Hughesy Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 It says 30 years & 1 week on the front page of this site?!? Dingles are struggling in that run-in - dont think Preston have what it takes to make it happen (Cardiff & Big club are 2 of their last 3), so surely only Swansea could stop them. With Sheff Utd up next for the Dingles, hopefully Swansea could beat Bristol and put some real pressure on.

Combination of the defeat at Cardiff and the dingles' run-in must be giving hope to PNE and Swansea of getting that play-off place. Don't really understand why you think we have a bad run in First Sheff U- Good team, but we have beat them at their place this season. Then Southampton- Very poor team, lots of pressure on them and a happy hunting ground for us the last few seasons. To finish Bristol City- Falling down the table the way we usually do at this time of the season, nothing to play for. So 2 of the last 3 at home and a 4 point lead, never count my chickens where Burnley are concerned but we should be there. Don't think enybody really expected much at Cardiff, not a bad performance, level after 87 mins. Must admit having no experianced strikers currently available is concerning but hopefully that will change.
Claytons Left Boot Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Could not find the days since section but isn't today the 30th anniversary of a certain sad event... It certainly is Phil, 14 April 1979, 30 years ago today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BURNLAH !! I'm 51 now, married with 2 (adult) kids, my lad's done a tour of Afghanistan and my daughter has had her own business. So much has happened in those, how many is it, oh yes 30, sorry I said 30 T-H-I-R-T-Y (three zero) years. There have been wars in the Falklands, Jugoslavia, Kuwait, Iraq and so on. People in 1979 wore flares, drank Watneys Pale Ale and caught buses with conductors on. Mobile phones were only a twinkle in somebody's eyes and a multitude of chimneys in various northern towns belched out smoke everywhere. Liverpool used to win the league, the Berlin Wall stood proud and the Soviet Union was considered to be the major threat to world peace. Folk in Burnlah drove round in their Ladas, Skodas, Ford Zodiacs and Hillman Hunters. They still do. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BURNLAH, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Billy Castell Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Burnley look like they are set for the play-offs, but there are a load of good teams that can go up. It's a lottery as to who is going up via the play-offs. It certainly is Phil, 14 April 1979, 30 years ago today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BURNLAH !! Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 17th January 1991 the day Jack Walker officially purchased a maximum stake in this club. (not sure his initial stake was the virtual 100%) Shame something of far greater importance never gets commemorated on here.

I do have a couple of Ford Consul Capris tho.

Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Not everyone has respect for Jack Walker's legacy apparently.
Claytons Left Boot Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I would love a nice Ford Zodiac Mk2 or 3. I do have a couple of Ford Consul Capris tho. You'd love a win against the Rovers but it aint gonna happen.

Rem we were leading the 2nd Div in 91-92 for yonks, clear favourites to go straight up but got jittery, went on abysmal run and scrambled into the playoffs in 6th place by having to win away at Plymouth on the last day of the season. I think you know the rest yorky.

I think you know the rest yorky. That was under colossal pressure. None of the playoff contenders are anywhere near the level of pressure BRFC were under to achieve promotion. Does seem quite fitting that BRFC ultimately achieved promotion through the playoff route considering the earlier near misses.
yorkyclaret Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 You'd love a win against the Rovers but it aint gonna happen. Will be nice when we do beat you, but I would rather have a nice Zodiac! As for the nerves, who can say, not showing any as yet and have played some pretty big games this season with no sign of nerves, so still think we are 80% in the playoffs. Then the nerves will really come into it! The pressure on the bigger clubs could help us, but if I'm honest I think I will be paying for next seasons season ticket.
philipl Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I think the Sheff U and Southampton games are going to be much tougher than the dingles think they will be. Anyway on the off chance of promotion up the road, an article on why having Burnley in the Prem would be good for Rovers. Several good issues raised but they miss the obvious advantage- 6 points.

Well phil, I do think they will be tough games, but I know we are capable of beating either, Southampton especially, but many strange results happen at this stage of the season. Just hoping we can get Patto and/or Thommo fit this week. By the way, I believe there are plenty of 60s Brit cars knocking about on Malta, so keep an eye open for a good Zodiac or Consul Capri spares for me wont you.
Gav Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Burnley seem to have adopted "The final countdown" much to the fans disgust as its a Rovers song, long may it continue I say. Come on Sheff Utd
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Whenever you bump this the Dingles win. I was hoping you wouldn't. 2 mins in and they have hit the post. I blame GAV. They'll come up, I tell you.
Eddie Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 They're winning now...I bet on Sheffield United so I take part of the blame.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 You two seem determined to get them promoted between you.
