It's hard to emphasise enough how little I care about attendance statistics with promotion to think about instead.

It's one for geeky stattos at struggling clubs to bicker over. Me, I'm too busy planning the Clarets' promotion party at Dingle Towers.

What's geeky about it? I didn't go to the library or research the matter. The facts are out there and accessable to all. Including those deluded Dingles who have constantly told me down the years how they have bigger support than us.

Part of me hopes that you do go up btw. It'll be Derby and Swindon combined then multiplied by ten!

Who would have an eye out for the Burnley vs. Newcastle game should the barcodes go down, and Burnley stay where they are? That could be very amusing whatever the result.

I'd have liked to have seen them up when Cotterill was their manager, as they would have been useless. Coyle might surprise a few people, like Pulis and Stoke have done.

From recent rumours I would think that promotion would be a financial necessity for Burnley. Failure may see them in deep doo doo.

Preston too are losing thousands pw. These things cannot and will not be allowed to continue forever imo.

I watched the game last night and really enjoyed it. Burnley started off like an express train and could easily have been 3 or 4 up in the first 20 mins. Several good players: Eagles, Blake, Carlisle, Elliott and Patterson (have I got that right?) stood out, but they were all well up for the battle which you always get with Sheff Utd, and for me Burnley came out on top in every dept.

I really hope they make it to the Prem..... as long as we don't go down!!

Rovers will have to implode spectacularly to go down.

Burnley probably have that little bit extra up front plus Coyle's superb management to see them through the play-offs, not forgetting their cup tie experience. Sheff U was the big one- playing a club that could have got into the automatic promotion mix had it won. Southampton will scrap like mad but the dingles have one point too many for PNE or Swansea to be a realistic threat now.

Rovers v dingle games next season will raise interest level in the two towns.

Long way to go before we are booking the coaches for that one.

Fife Were you not impressed by McCann?

I wouldn't say implode exactly, a loss this weekend and a Boro win, we are in it. That would be three losses in a row does that count as an implosion?

You're a burnley fan, so the only thing that really concerns you is how many come to watch you, home and away, so don't give us that nonsense.

Unless you've just jumped on the bandwaggon this season becuase they've won a few...........

Seems all might not be so rosy in the Dingle garden:

Take heed all you dingles and recall the tale of Icarus and Daedalus. Flying too close to the sun is not always good for ones health. Even if promotion is attained a large chunk of the booty might never see the club and (probably rightly in all fairness) be snatched back by Messrs Kilby, Flood and a bank or two etc etc. Be warned the promised land of the Premiership is definitely not the best place to be with an empty wallet.

That's the 'geeky stattos' bit confirmed.

The Premier League is no promised land for a small club.

It means that you lose a lot of matches and go into games with the big guns knowing that a draw will be a very fortunate thing. Inevitably, as you get drawn into the relegation cesspit, you have to slug it out with hit and hope footy or risk going under.

If you're lucky, you'll avoid relegation and enter the heavenly realm of mid-table. If the Gods are really beaming, you may sneak into the UEFA cup, which is a bit like Junior Wimbledon except with less prestige.

At least in the Championship everyone has, at least, a sneaky hope of getting into the play-offs - at the start of the season. In the Premier League, most are just praying for survival. Over the weekend, as I saw Pompey fans celebrating like crazy about a 1-0 relegation-thwarting win, it made me wonder how really ridiculous football is. Here is a team that, admittedly now substantially less rich, has spent gazillions on players and pays them huge wages to perform. And the fans are celebrating ecstatically about a 1-0 win that moves them up to whatever lowly position it is.

Best thing that Burnley could do is to get promoted, offer the players a few grand more but only in win bonus's, inevitably come straight down again and it's job done! 70m smackeroonies over the nexy year or two straight into Kilby and Floods back sack. Lovely jubbly Rodders. :tu:

................. Or maybe those two have not considered that possibility yet?

3-4 experienced Prem players, increased wages on current squad, current wag bill 8m.

They must be looking in the region of 20m+ before they even kick a ball.

Hope Kilby and Co. can survive until the first ball is kicked, they could be the only club relegated without kicking a ball.

3.2m of any money they receive, you would think will go to Kilby so they can have there home back, instead of renting it.

I would like to see then in the promised land though.

Oh dear! Sorry I forgot to mention him as well. Yes, he did a stirling job for you. In fact I was very impressed by the whole game after the drudgery we have had to watch just recently. Both Burnley and Sheff U. put on a fantastic display of battling football with no quarter asked or given by either side. If only the PL could be more like that with a lot more do-or-die football allied to a fair amount of skill and NO DIVING OR REF CONNING!!! PL managers take note!!
