So much to comment on I don't now where to start.

Ok, our play off prospects. First we have to get into them. Tough game away on Saturday for us but also tough games for PNE and Swansea. This is Burnley so I take nothing for granted but with luck our place could be sealed by early Saturday evening. After that the play offs themselves become something of a lottery, you have one off game and its all over just like cup football. Looking at the other likely play off contenders then none look easy - equally I'm sure they will all feel the same. My preference would be to avoid Cardiff in the semi's but to be honest it looks much of a muchness. A genuine case of we could beat any of them but just as equally so could they beat us. Lets hope this seasons cup experiences can give us some sort of edge.

Attendances. Agreed they are poor but lets be fair, our clubs have not been anywhere near an even footing since Jack Walker stepped in. Yes we were in the same division but only after you had spent years in the top flight, even being champions. I suspect that if you got relegated and then spent around 4 years down you would see your gates dwindle to a similar level. But its all hypothetical. Me I'd rather just get up into the prem and enjoy the ride for now without worrying about attendances. Which brings me neatly onto the next point

Is it a good thing to get promoted? Of course financially it is. Allowing for increased costs, paying loans back to directors etc etc then one season alone would allow us to bring the clubs infrastructure up to date. Yes we could well be another West Brom but the money, if used wisely would be worth it. If I'm entirely honest then I agree, it is more fun for us in the Championship where we can have seasons like the one we have just had rather than hoping each season to be mid table. Equally though lets none of us kid ourselves. There are about 4 really really good teams in the Prem, the rest are really not all that and it is not inconceivable for a good manager to make a go of it with a club like Burnley. We won't win it but it is possible that we could become a regualr within it - Bolton managed it without the Walker millions, maybe we could to. If not then one season as whipping boys sets us up financially for the next 25 years - seems a reasonable trade off.

And finally, would it be good for both teams for Burnley to get into the Prem? Leaving aside the assumptions that you will take 6 points from us then I'd say yes. As already stated, interest in both towns would be through the roof, we could both enjoy the kind of atmosphere that I suspect neither of us do regularly and lets be honest, you are about as likely as we are to actually win anything each year but a genuine derby, against your genuine rivals? A win is as good as winning the cup.

Absolutely spot on Longsiders. You have just about summed up very nicely what being in the PL means to small town teams like Rovers, Burnley, Bolton and Wigan etc. None of us are going to win anything in the far foreseeable future, but at least we all enjoy playing each other in a whole series of Lancashire derby's. Let's also hope that both PNE and Blackpool can join us in the near future. There is nothing like a good derby game to get your juices flowng, although having said that the Burnley/ Rovers derby is in a class of it's own. Oh how I miss it these days!

Anyway you can rely on at least one Rovers fan rooting for you to make it to the play-offs and to be successful too. Good Luck!

Sorry to look on the negative but Rovers playing Burnley in the Prem will shine legitimacy on the bonehead antics of the neanderthal element on both sides that think that football local rivalry is about expressing their sadism.

Perhaps you should read the first line of your own signature R6, and stop exagerrating the relaively few minor incidents. And incidentally as one who has seen almost every Rovers /Burnley match since 1946 I can honestly say I have never noticed any violence. Plenty of abuse hurling but that is all.

Never noticed any violence...are you sure fife? Our first meeting in 17 years at the Turf in 2001 resulted in the bone heads of Burnley rearranging their own town centre such was their frustration at defeat.

Sadly, the derby games became increasingly violent from around the mid 70's.

Good, sensible post that. Good stuff.

Still hope you miss out though. ;)

You're a bandwagon jumper aren't you?

We had plenty of those...where are they now we have lost Jack and strugle from time to time....In some ways I hope Burnley come up then at least we would get our genuine Derby back and inject some real atmosphere at the club...guaranteed sell out for that one...and as our Dingle freind has said "doing the double!" over them in the league would be as good as a cup win...We will always hate them in football terms but what a day when we play each other...

"Where are they now"?................

Whilst I'm no lover of bandwagon jumpers, they're still supporting the club today and see us having a healthy average attendance this season despite playing some of the worst football since Kidd and Souness lost the plot.

Where do you think they've gone with an average attendance of 23k this season

We used to avarage 26,000 and I think it's lower than 23,000...does that avarage include away fans?..Iv'e been to matches where we have had only 19,000...while the attendaces are good for a town the size of Blackburn they are down....and if you want to stick your head in the sand and not admit that then there's nothing I can do about that...And having read Longsider's post where exactly did he rant...Oh and while I'm at it what about the 32,000 we took to the cup final in Cardiff...

Longsider is a burnley fan who needs to post his thoughts on a burnley website, if you like to read them why not join burnleyfc.co.uk

As for getting gates lower than 23k??? are you for real? we used to get gates of 5-8k every week FFS before the bandwagon jumpers joined the parade. So to say they deserted the good ship BLACKBURN ROVERS couldn't be further from the truth.

Actually SG you have hit on one of the few I did not see. I missed that one but was there for the return match at Ewood when we beat them 5-0. Oh happy day!

I saw all the mid-70's matches, but I honestly cannot remember seeing any violence. I am not saying there was none, but I certainly never saw it. The nearest I came to anything like that was as we were driving home after a match at Turf Moor which Rovers had won (cant remember which one now) we were abused by a group of idiots as we drove through Accrington. They had obviously spotted the Rovers scarf hanging from the back window of our car and the silly persons decided to chase my car up the road for a few yards or so hurling abuse and obscenities as they ran. That's the only incident I can ever remember seeing during or after a Rovers/ Burnley encounter.

Oh get over yourself.

Longsider is a Burnley fan. This website is the closest he'd get to civility compared to the small town in Yarrrkkkshire

And there was heaps of trouble in the mid 70's matches onwards as SG states.

That Guardian article essentially says firesale at Burnley if they don't go up. Who do we fancy from there?

Sheff U was the singles' crunch match- by winning that they have pretty well cemented 6th and of the 4 play off teams I have them as favourites to win through if you put local rivalries to one side and look at it dispassionately.

PL riches are such that they could pay off the £6m and still collect about 30 points under Owen Coyle.

Ha ha just seen what spell checker automatically did to Dingles.

Gav is angry all the time.

I don't know him but I'd imagine him to be one of those short men who are aggressive and like to talk about fighting and stuff, you know.. to compensate. Like a quick-tempered Jack Russell mindlessly snapping at passing cars.

As for Longsider's post. It was on a Rovers site, granted. But also on a Burnley thread, nowhere else. A 'pro-Burnley' thread indeed, started by... Gav.

Bet you regret that now, eh?

Agreed Sam. Gav you're being totally illogical in starting a thread about burnley and then griping cos a few of our Burnley supporting members post their thoughts on it. What did you expect? Have you never posted to Burnley forums? Yes or No? In fact let me help you there ........ http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=750507

Furthermore Longsiders post was well written, mature and a decent read whereas your immaturity is shining through like a beacon in yours.

Oh and if you want to know why our support is evaporating

1. The Prem and the CL have ensured that the only competition that we are ever going to be in is an annual battle against relegation. How is that expected to nourish support in the area? Young people are rarely attracted to losers they only crave association with winners.

2. Go and look in the local pubs around match days where I'm sure that you will find plenty of the less committed fans. especially those around the Rishton area perhaps?

SAR you are equally as immature in taking Gavs corner against Fife. You should be ashamed of yourself. Fife has made good points and has much to offer in his memories of the spirit and rivalry that our derby matches used to be played. As opposed to those since the 70's where collective ignorance, bad manners and boorish behaviour took over from attaining wealth and properity as the primary life ambition of the young in urban areas. It's plain to see why your days as a mod were short and sweet.

Tell you what Fife why don't we open a section of the site dedicated to burnley fc? You longsider and Sam can moderate.

We could have pictures of the fans, club achievements  and information on away travel, you know the usual stuff.

Lets make them all welcome, in fact turn the front page claret and blue whilst we’re at it..........

As a long term viewer of the mb I notice that you are only ever on here on the rare occaisions that our fortunes are on the wane whilst your shower are doing relatively (for you) well. You are clearly here on the wind up then get all offended when you get a reaction. Odd.

Fife - If you're reading. Do you remember the odd discussion in the past re the I'm In Heaven section and in particular the late 50's Charlton away promotion match you attended.

If you have the time, it would be great to read your account of the game, atmosphere, number of Rovers fans, after the game happenings etc etc.

Go on Fife!! You know you want to!!
